aside from the sparkling lobby, this hotel is showing some age. my room was non-smoking, but i suspect it was a smoking room in the not too distant past. still, it was adequate. the name is a bit deceptive - it's several blocks from the station and not within sight. (i had to stop into the apa hotel across the street from the station to ask for a map.) but the location is excellent if you plan to stay in nagasaki for more than one night, especially if your plans involve the port, which is directly across the street. and it's within walking distance of many of the non-atomic bomb related attractions, such as dejima, the art museum, and glover gardens.
if you're just in town for one night and only plan to see the peace park, stick closer to the station. but for longer stays, this is a good choice.
Restaurant Tip:
For cheap meals, there's a big grocery store in the basement of the shopping center across the street from the hotel, next to the harbor, as well as a food court.

the service was fine. the staff spoke some english. the room was clean if a little cramped, but that is to be expected in this price range for a japanese hotel. the location was great, very close to the station and also very close to some tram stations, for easy access to tourist sights.

walking distance from Nagasaki station, blocks from port, pier, Chinatown and sites. Got a smoking room so lots of cigarette stain.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Sowa Shrine is a must see.
