Inconveniently located but worth the view
6
the hotel is located very inconveniently on a hilltop, which is to exhausting to go up and down comfortably. the buses stops going there at quite an early hour, so the only option left is the taxi. the rooms are big, pretty nice. the view over nagasaki both day and night is amazing. you can skip the ropeway if you choose a city view room. the service is not very good though and the breakfast is flat out bad!

the hotel has seen better days, it is clean enough but the interior is noticably old. the staff was friendly but spoke little english, not that english is needed to get situated.
the japanese style breakfast had a large selection of choices and tasted good. the view while eating breakfast was very nice as the view while eating breakfast was very nice as well.
it has an onsen with a view as well, we did not get a a view as well, we did not get a chance to use it due to time constraints.
the only downside was that there was no public transportation in the neighbourhood (nearest busstop was ten minutes walk). Taxis are the best option. It is about 1000 Yen from the hotel to the nagasaki JR station. If you are lucky the driver will take the route where the trees are in the middle of the asphalt road, with only a narrow gap for him to drive through.
Hotel Feature Tip:
take a taxi or your own car, for public transport accessible hotel look elsewhere.

The Hotel Nagasaki is an older hotel on a mountain over-looking downtown Nagasaki. It's not the most convenient location but the night view is spectacular. The hotel also features a Japanese bath, great for unwinding at the end of the day.
There's a bus stop just outside the hotel, and the bus takes you to central Nagasaki for yen. Taxis to/from Nagasaki Station ran between yen.
It's probably a little more expensive than it should be, but it was clean, comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and helpful (though no one I met spoke English).
