Featuring 458 guestrooms with a European-style interior, this hotel was the first circular skyscraper hotel in Japan. The Dai-ichi Hotel is a 20 minutes drive from the Osaka Airport, and a 45 minutes drive from Asia-Pacific Trade Centre. The four-star landmark hotel is also just a two-minute walk from JR Osaka Station. Guests can shop at the connecting underground shopping center, or enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding area from the upper floors. There are many shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues in the area. Getting to the train is a snap -- just one block away. The staff is friendly but many only speak a smattering of English -- which is fine unless you have a complicated matter in which case you may need to speak to another staff member. Breakfast is so-so.
- Travel tip : Great restaurants are in the Hilton basement level just a block away. www.TheMadTravelerOnline.com
