Relaxing, easy, great staff. Shared bathrooms were very clean although the shared shower room was a traditional Japanese Onsen meaning there was little to no privacy. A fun experience but not for everyone.

I went to 9 cities during my 16 days trip with my family. This was the only japanese style hotel I had and the most comfortable in my whole trip.
We stayed on the 3rd floor, ad I have to carry all my luggage up the stairs, Shared bathroom, big room with wifi available, and my first time trying onsen here.
Will definitely be back if I'm going to Takayama again.

Staff was very friendly and attentive. Used the free bikes which was such a great way to get around this little town. Room was clean and quite small, had a fridge and afternoon tea service, and very fast wifi. Bathroom was clean but had a strong odor for the duration of the stay.

I stayed here with my wife and 13- year old daughter in a room for three. The room was large enough for us and with enough space for storing three suitcases. Since there is no bathroom/toilet, expect to wrap up during the winter months if you need to visit the toilet in the middle of the night. The host doesn't appear to speak much English. We spoke enough Japanese to communicate but if you want local information it is best to visit the Tourist Office near the train station. The male public bath is not so big - sits 3 adults at most, but the female bath is larger. We had dinner on the 2nd night and it was excellent. I have lived in Japan for ten years and this was a good deal not to be missed.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Everything worth seeing in the town is within walking distance of the hotel.

Great location but a lil old
Just 8 mins walk from Takayama train station. Opposite a famous temple. Kind old lady runs the minshuku.

We had a late check in around 10.30pm. The owner, a old lady came out and received us. We carried out heavy luggage up to the 1st floor. We though of having a shower and rest after a long trip. The share bath area close at 10.30pm, but the old lady is kind enough to let us use. Onsen is also available. Lawson is 3 mins away and we went out to get a quick dinner. Breakfast and dinner is available upon pre order, but it was too late for us. Room is ok, look kinda old, wardrobe smells old too. Others are alright. We just put up a night, as it is a stop over for us. Will not go for the second night.
Restaurant Tip:
Many restaurants around, but they open in the night. Breakfast is hard to get.
