Warm homestay experience

Spacious rooms

Around 10 - 15 mins walk from Kita-Senju subway station. We had trouble finding the hotel as Google maps wrongly pointed out the street to the entrance of the hotel. Thanks to the handful of locals who helped us though they didnt know any English. The elderly couple who owns the hotel are very friendly and left us on our own (which we preferred).
Shopping Tip: This hotel is one subway stop from Ueno, where there is a large open air shopping area.

Nice and Simple Ryokan-type Inn

Simple Ryokan-type Inn with an atmosphere of normal Japanese home, in a town which is not so crowded and near the arakawa river.
8
It's a nice place to stay to experience living in a simple Japanese type house with nice and friendly owner. LOCATION ======== it's situated in Senju district of tokyo, an outskirt and not-so-busy-town near the main metropolitan city of tokyo. about 5-10 walk to the "Kitasenju Station" where a number of subway/train line are available. even there was the "Tobu Sky Tree Line" which goes to the newly built tower (2012) near the sumida district called "Tokyo Sky Tree". PRICE ===== the price of the stay is just about nice, which is about at most *5000 yen per person a night, if compared to any other ryokan, given the fact that this ryokan is just a simple ryokan and not as luxurious as any other ryokan. SUGGESTION ========== Ryokan Maizuru is suitable for those who are going to Japan and want to feel what it's like to like in a Japanese-type home, this is one of the right place to drop by. THINGS TO CONSIDER ================== - apart from all the good things stated above (if you find it good), the owner (and people in senju district) don't speak well in English. if you are not able to interact in alteast basic conversation in japanese language (i'm also not good in japanese but atleast i can understand and interact in broken japanese language), you might not find things as interesting as i had stated. - everyday you need to check out latest at 10am for room cleaning, if you stay in during the day, you might be charged extra, and room is not cleaned. (stated in the notice) SUMMARY ======= for price of at most *5000 yen per person a night, sleeping at night in a futon on a tatami mat, provided with a yukata to wear after having hot bath at night, being in town which is not so busy, near the arakawa river, having one day relaxing at the riverbed of arakawa , it is just the great place to spend your time and experience the lifestyle of living in a normal Japanese life. *note: the price stated was based on Sept 2012 pricing.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: if you planned your travel at the right time, or if you are just lucky to have some other festival going on at that time, you can watch the big fireworks being lit from the riverbed of the Arakawa river. Please check the date, as i to am not sure of the actual date, and ask any locals, or anybody who had been living in Japan. (if i just went to japan a little later, i would have been able to watch the fireworks) And if you are going there during sakura blooming season, there are also a place with nice view of sakura. (unluckily i came there not during spring)

Experience local japanese stay in Tokyo

Traditional Japanese house, nice experience. the owner is nice. Nice neighbourhood.
7.7
If you'd like to experience local Japanese home, this is a place to stay. the place is clean, the owner is nice. Don't expect it's a hotel, it's more like a home stay but a good experience for foreigner. I like the neighbourhood a lot even though it's not in the center of Tokyo. the chain Unagi rice restaurant is delicious. if you wanna take a rest and experience local life in Tokyo, it's the place for you. If you want hotel service and night life, maybe not.
