It was good. Very good location as it is near to train stations. Lots of local eateries and convienience stores too, which will prove useful. Close to Ueno pakr as well

good location for shopping and transport.

The Hotel Marutani located in the shopping area with lots of good restuarant and just 10 minutes walk to Ueno Park where is a good place for relax.
It also located in a perfect spot for transportation, 300 metres away from JR ueno station, 300 metres from rapid serviced train station that depart from Narita Airport and only just 100 metres from tokyo subway.
The room is not too small and comfort enough for single person but room's condition is a bit too old.
Marutani's staffs are friendly, they will help you as much as they can although their english are not so good.

This is a nice small Hotel. It is clean and the staff is very friendly and very polite and help full. The Hotel is situated in the middle of lots of small restautants and is also very close to Uneo station. Easy walking distance even with luggage. The rooms are simple and the beds comfortable.

It took a little work to find (it's on a main street, but I didn't look it up before I got there), but once I did it was quick and easy to check in and get settled. The staff was nice and spoke enough English to get by, though certainly not fluent. I would definitely stay here, again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Ueno is close to Asakusa/SkyTree, Akihabara, and Ueno Park. Make sure you get to them all!

My stay was only for 2 nights as I was staying in Tokyo two days before my flight left. The service was excellent, staff was friendly, the public bath was really nice and the room was clean and tidy. You could tell the room was old, but it wasn't anything terrible. Free Wi-fi in the room is a bonus for the cheap price. I got a deal because I booked early and it was worth every penny. Being so near to a big train station is also convenient to get anywhere in Tokyo.
Highly recommended for the solo traveler on a mid range budget.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Walk down the local side streets in Ueno and you can find numerous delicious places to eat!

You can feel the real Japanese hospitality at this hotel. Tatami room, big Onsen Bath, the best location next to Ameyoko shopping area.
I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
