Friendly staff, free internet, computers in lobby, washer/dryer, kitchen, close to subway, in good location-Ueno, clean rooms.

Room is a little small for western standards but has everything you need. Rooms are very clean and cozy.

I would recommend Oak Hotel to anyone. The hotel is affordable and in a good location. It offers all of the amenities of free internet, free computers to use, and a kitchen. I liked that it was close to a convenient store, 24 hour restaurants, the subway, and the subway. This was the second time I've stayed Oak Hotel and look forward to staying there again.

Shopping Tip : The hotel is on the other side of the Ueno Train Station from Ameyoko--a giant shopping bazar.

Hotel is clean and staff very professional. I like the kitchen which is most convenient if you should need to prepare a nice hot cup of coffee or a simple meal.

My first visit to Japan and finding the hotel on a cold, rainy winter night was not easy. However with a printed Japanese and English map provided on the hotel website, we were able to find the hotel with the help of some locals. Checking in was a breeze and we were able to explore the city within minutes! Hotel is strategically located and within the hotel you can find loads of literature advising you on where to go and what to do in Japan. Just make yourself a nice hot cup of coffee from the cozy kitchen and read the information put up on the notice boards or found on the brochures at the lobby area. There is no restriction on the time you need to return to the hotel in the night as you can enter via card access. Staff speak good English and they give good and clear instructions.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Convenient 10 min walk from hotel to Akasusa.

Very friendly & helpful frontdesk staff & reasonable price.

Location not very ideal, quite a distance from the station, and nothing much to see/eat/shop around this hotel.

though the location of the hotel is not very good (about 15-20 mins walk to the station), but given the attractive price, we are still very happy with our choice :)

clean, friend staff, quiet location, easy to find, away from the busy-ness of mainstream tokyo, short walk to subway, plenty of interesting shops and eats in ameyoko arcade near ueno station, great location, ueno is close to all the main tokyo places yet away from the hustle and bustle

internet was a bit slow... room was small but normal for tokyo

make sure you dont turn left early when on your way to the hotel. there is a flashing sign at the end of the lane where you turn left. It can be confusing depending on which station you come out of. asking for directions is helpful. check out ueno park, there are often street entertainers which was one of the highlights of our trip. amekyoko arcade is awesome for getting lost and trying new places to eat and shopping. a must for ueno.

Location (close to Asakusa and Ueno) as well as being very close to the metro; price; staff; internet in rooms

Feels like student accommodation; no cafe

An very good value little hotel in the heart of old Tokyo ... very close to the shops and nightlife of Asakusa as well as historic Sensoji Temple and excellent Ueno Park. Good transport links, including the metro and trains from nearby Ueno JR station (10 min walk) as well as the Keisei airport link (15 min walk). Staff are friendly and helpful; prices at the hotel are reasonable.

Cool and friendly staff Pleasant atmosphere. Easy to find if you follow directions.

Ueno and this hotel are a little bit off center regarding Tokyo so about 30mins on subway to Shibuya

For a single person or a young couple on a medium to low budget this place is perfect..... Rooms are a little small but welcome to Japan! Cool Staff. Great Indian restaurant on the same block....Rafi's I think..... Only 4 computers in lobby though and they were almost always busy if you need to use the internet a lot.....

Restaurant Tip : Rafi's Indian restaurant on the same block....

location, price, staff, cleanliness

Rooms are small.

The Oak has a very quiet and convenient location. You can easily walk to Asakusa and Ueno Park. The people at the front desk were most helpful and the cleaners were very honest. I had left my necklace in the room. They found it and returned it to me after checking out. I would definitely stay there again.

Location to Ueno train station, distance to food and services, great English-speaking staff, nice lounge area with computers, books and a fully-functional kitchen.

The beds aren't very comfortable, the dryer is terrible, and the rooms are very small.

The hotel is off the street, which minimizes traffic sounds. The staff greets you at the desk and is very helpful with information on ATMs, train schedules, etc. Their bulletin boards of local events is updated daily, and also included day-trips and a few standard touristy places to visit. The rooms are pretty small, but well-stocked with a TV, drawers, slippers and robes. Checkout was easy, and they even provided a set of cables for our laptop to use their internet for free. Overall, a great value and a wonderful experience.

Restaurant Tip : There is a great Indian restaurant on the same block as the hotel, open very late at night. They also do takeout, and the food is excellent.

Friendliness of the staff, staff speaks good english and helpful

Very small toilet

Had a short stay in the hotel for just only 1 night but nevertheless i was amazed by the friendliness of the lady staff of the hotel. Left a baggage in the lobby overnight and the staff helped me to keep it till the next day when i checked out. The hotel is also located very near to the subway with just 5 minutes on foot.

This was my first time in Tokyo. Obviously it's an expensive city, and I wanted to save as much money as possible. Looking at many hotels, Oak Hotel seemed the cheapest but still looked decent. While it was still expensive compared to SE Asian standards (where I'm from), the hotel still exceeded my expectations compared to the photos. The staff were extremely helpful. Would recommend to anyone who is looking to save a little money and wants a safe/convenient place to stay. I stayed in a single private room and really loved it as a basic home to sleep in and feel safe.

Nightlife Tip : Go to Asakusa area and grab some sake in a traditional japanese bar. Great for people watching!

Location

Hard bed & pillow, not enough orientation of the facilities available when you checked in.

The instructions on how to find the hotel on the Oak home page are pretty good and we found it eventually with relative ease. It is a little walk (big walk, especially with bags without wheels)from Ueno station. The staff had very good english skills (good for us as our japanese is not good)and were very accomodating & friendly. Our room was a semi double, it was the smallest semi double ever and was way too small for the two of us. After being at other hotels with semi doubles and having plenty room, this was small small small, wouldnt recommend it for two people. There was a semi double next door to us that was vacated and it was much bigger than our room, we contemplated asking to change to that room. But we thought to ourselves, we are only sleeping in it, so it sufficed. The mattress was the most uncomfortable & hardest i have ever slept on and had a dip in it on one side and the pillow was just as uncomfortable and hard. We discovered from other visitors that their mattresses & pillows were hard & uncomfortable. The location was brilliant and this outweighed the hardness and smallness of it all. I would stay here again but would not get a semi double.

Hotel Feature Tip : It gets hard to try and get a computer to check emails etc, we found we had no trouble getting on it early morning between 6-8am.

Location (very close to a Tokyo Metro station - Inaricho and relatively close to a big train station, Ueno). Good Internet connection.

The air conditioning system.

Nice hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. Oriented towards budget travelers, but it provides good value for money, with good room amenities. Good daily room cleaning service (including the provided yukata). An area where the hotel needs improvements is the air conditioning system, which is located at mid height and can be uncomfortable. Also, the good Internet connection is worth mentioning and some other facilities, like a common kitchen and washing machine.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Located close to Asakusa, you can enjoy a pleasant evening stroll towards Senso-ji.
