Nice location (near park and the Hyatt), free shuttle bus to and from Shinjuku station, good sized rooms.

hot and stuffy, a bit outdated, small bathrooms.

This was a pleasant hotel in a nice, leafy quietier part of town, about 15 mins walk from Shinjuku station (although there is a free shuttle bus that runs in the mornings and afternoons) and close to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office and Park Hyatt (where Lost in Translation was filmed). The hotel was a bit outdated and the 'air con' was really just hot air, so it got a bit stuffy at times. But the staff were nice, happy to hold luggage etc. Still worth the price we got it for

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The nearby Park Hyatt bar is free from 5pm-8pm. Go up there for some glamour and great views early in the evening

So nice, you'll go there twice Guest Rating: 7.7

In a nice quiet area by Shinjuku Chuo park, a few minutes from A couple of stations Both the JR Line and Metro. There is a little shop inside the hotel for stationary, fans (essential during summer months), soft drinks and noodle pots. The vending machines are always well stocked with a variety of soft drinks and ice cream. They also have a notice board for weather warnings for those who are worried about such things.

For those who wish to stay close to young vibrant areas, this may not be the best place for you to stay. If you don't have your own laptop or netbook, you may find the pay as you go internet a bit pricey at 100yen for a few minutes compared to rates in internet cafes which are 390 to 420yen for an hour (which usually has unlimted free drink too).

This was actually the second time I had stayed with this hotel. I have always found the staff kind and understanding. They were always willing to greet me in english or in japanese (which became the case after I always tried to converse in Nihongo). I found the TV reception was of excellent quality with a diverse channel selection including Korean, Chinese and english speaking channels.

Hotel Feature Tip : The Hotel operates a bus service to a number of sites in the Shinjuku area. I never used it myself as I enjoy walking. However, the two times I stayed with them they made it clear that this was available which most hotels would not do leaving the traveller to either walk or attempt to use expensive cab services that often sat in traffic and had to be pointed out where you wanted to go.

Triple room was clean, comfortable and quiet.

Pillows were rock hard and the passageways smelled of smoke.

Located a short walk from the action in Shinjuku, this is a great hotel for the budget conscious traveler. Free shuttle bus runs to Shinjuku Station West entrance up to 10.30 am in the mornings and then again after about 3.30 pm til 10.30pm. We used the small fridge in the room and appreciated the tea making apparatus. There is not much atmosphere in the lobby area but the staff were helpful and efficient.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Short walk to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government high rise with a viewing station on the 45th floor which gives an incredible view of the vastness of Tokyo.

It's very clean with great staff. Check in was seamless and the room was super clean and well supplied. Tea, toiletries, fridge, TV with BBC, and other supplies on loan.

The bathroom is extremely tiny if you aren't used to Japanese style business hotels.

This was an excellent hotel for anyone planning on participating in the Tokyo Marathon. Located less than a two minute walk to the start line and on the edge of Shinjuku's Central Park, it's location can't be beat. It was super clean with a very diligent staff. Additionally, it was well supplied with toiletries and amenities. While the bathroom was a bit small, the water was hot and clean and stocked full of all of the toiletries I needed. I appreciated the bilingual TV with the BBC access. If I run the marathon again, I will definitely stay here.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : This is an EXCELLENT hotel for runners planning to participate in the Tokyo Marathon. It is a 2-minute walk to the Start Line.

Location; helpful staff; breakfast

(Second visit) foyer looked untidy and downmarket. Make the free internet kit more obvious at check-in and always available. Otherwise great value and service for the price.

This in many ways is a true gem: comfortable; if compact rooms; free internet (if you know how to ask); very helpful staff;..... and a great location. Don't expect luxury accommodation. This is a very functional hotel, meeting needs in a practical, minimalist sort of Japanese way. On the con side, and based on a second visit, the foyer area seemed a little downmarket and dilapidated. Surely easy to spruce up. But overall, and considering location and price this is a great little hotel.

15-20 min walk from Shinjuku station but across the street from a lg park with a smaller station that links to other stations. Free internet in the room - but only if you ask the staff for the kit. Speaking of staff - absolutely awesome! Very helpful with any thing you could want.

Windows are not tinted so anyone walking on the street can see into your room. I like ambient lighting so this was kind of a pain for me. Kind of a long walk from Shinjuku Station; had to take a taxi a couple times.

Free internet in the room - but only if you ask the staff for the kit. Speaking of staff - absolutely awesome! Very helpful with any thing you could want. Helped me navigate the confusing Tokyo rail system and their shuttle system was super convenient. Rooms were nothing spectacular but clean and serviceable for the price. Very few negatives - the distance from Shinjuku station is the main one.

Restaurant Tip : The restaurant downstairs is actually good! Try it!

Even though the entrance foyer seemed a little outdated, the corridors and rooms were more modern (apart from the bathrooms). Staff were very helpful and friendly, even though we couldn't speak Japanese. Free wireless connection was only available in the foyer, but would have been much better if available in the room.

Shopping Tip : There is a convenience store located about 10 minutes walk just up the road. We only found out after we'd bought milk from somewhere much further away.

Great location - walking distance of the station, clean, nice breakfasts, helpful staff, handy vending machines for Haagen Dazs ice cream! Price - very good value for money.

Small room - had to duck a little in the shower. My trainers went missing! I had left them on the floor near the bin and wonder if they were mistakenly thrown away. The hotel were very helpful in looking into it, but they were never retrieved! They were very old and tatty looking! I would not let this deter me from staying here again, as the stay was otherwise very comfortable.

The Shinjuku New City Hotel was conveniently located in the heart of Shinjuku, within easy walking distance of the train station. I stayed in a twin room with a friend. The hotel was nicely presented, with helpful and friendly staff. Our room was on the small size, but it was clean and nice to stay in. The hotel has regular buses running to Narita airport, which is convenient when flying home.

Good location, room is clean. Guest Rating: 6.3
