the hotel has a rustic traditional feel to it. don't count on updating your facebook status or checking emails because the rooms shy away from any form of technology (no internet).
food was superb and service was great. definitely, for relaxation and a low key stay!

Pure traditional japanese experience

this traditional hotel is quietly tucked away in a place called insawa onsen which is straightforward to get to if you have a jr pass on the chuo line out from shinjuku. we had a complimentry pick up from the station after the information counter helper gave them a call on our behalf (located next to jr station). this place looks amazing. the wooden floors and decor take you back to traditional japan. the rooms themselves are basically one big dining room during the day and a bedroom by night (you take out futons to sleep on). the whole experience is really traditional and given the hotel staff only talked to us in japanese, it was a really different experience. communication issues were there but it was half the fun. the food presentation is amazing and there is sure to be something you like out of 10 or so dishes. later in the day/night you can head out for a soak in their traditional onsens but these are gender seperated. other than the hotel, the area itself doesnt offer much sight seeing. it's more of a retreat in my opinion.
Hotel Feature Tip:
When you sneak off for a cheeky onsen with your partner, wait until late at night an hour or two before the onsens close. You might find yourselve's alone in your respective onsens but you can talk to each other through a large hole in the roof used for draining!
