Relaxing river stay

we stayed in the river view bungalow, which consists of three separate bungalows, with balcony's and hammocks. The rooms were large with good air-con and mossie nets which we did not use.
Wifi works only in the restaurant which offers quite a good selection of budget food. wifi from bar opposite riverside bungalows in Don Det reaches rooms.
you are at one with nature here and will potentially find a water buffalo on your door step and will definitely be woken by chickens at 4am, it is all part of the experience.
there is not much to do except relax or hire a bike for $1 a day.

OK room, terrible service

We were extremely disappointed with our stay in pan's guesthouse. I'll start with the only OK point about the place - the room, it was decent size and with decent air con. The bad points were numerous. Firstly the bathroom remained flooded for about 6 hours after a shower which made going to the toilet tricky. The bed was uncomfortable as the mattress had completely collapsed in the middle. Mosquito net didn't really fit the bed properly. There were at least 7 cockerels roaming the guesthouse grounds so be prepared to be woken up very early everyday. Even with all these points the worst thing about this place was the service,which we were surprised about as previous reviews have complimented staff 's hospitality. We didn't find any of the staff friendly and we felt like we were just an inconvenience to them the whole stay. The breakfast in pan's restaurant is rubbish so go elsewhere if no breakfast is included. Do not use their laundry service, I've never seen an operation so disorganised, they lost several items of clothing which we had to go searching through other peoples dirty clothes to find and never would have got back if we hadn't noticed. They also took 3 days to wash out clothes and every day they would say "tomorrow". A terrible introduction to Laos people I would encourage people to avoid here.

Nice peaceful stay on Don Khon.
Excellent Mekong view, huge clean bungalow with good air con. Nice little restaurant opposite reception.

Had a great stay here. Couldn't fault the bungalow or it's location, right on the edge of the Mighty Mekong. Big balcony with hammock and chairs. Close to the bridge over to Don Det and you can rent bicycles to get around on. Close to many local restaurants. Overall a great stay.

Good food and breakfast about a minute away. Lots of fun visiting the water falls and kayaking. The manager was very nice. Very natural setting. Hardly any took tools, but some motor bikes.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Make sure you take the kayaking tour and take lots of sun lotion and mosquito bite prevention and lotion.

The bungalow is situated in a quiet island, even if it is not so quiet when you have 10 chichen screaming since 6 o clock in the morning : this is countryside
For the hotel , there is no wifi in the room but at the restaurant, so you keep away from tv and computers which is good !!! restaurant is good, but breakfast is not included !!!
Becareful , when you come from Pnohm penh cambodia, you arrive very late at night (9pm) and there is no more tuk tuk from Don Det to Don KKone... So make sure you can call the guesthouse, !!! Don khone is situated 10 mn tuktuk from Don Det, and Don Det is located 15mn boat from mainland !!!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
We defently loved this island, that s the best place we did in our 3 month trip , it is so relaxing, you can cycl around the island, you can swim , you can kayak , you have childrens everywhere !!!

very nice bungalows right by the mekong river, great river views, quiet and relaxing. big windows, mosquito nets, hammock，deckchairs... it's got it all. the owner mr. pan is very friendly and helpful, he can arrange tours and bus tickets for you with reasonable prices.
wifi only works in the restaurant.
the only con i can think of is the shower water pressure is a bit iffy, but i heard from other travelers that other bungalows are pretty much the same...
another thing is, i booked double bed, but got a twin instead. the staff said no double, but that could be their poor english communication skills.
