What a charming place!
Large rooms, clean, quiet
8.3
we stayed in halolao home stay for 3 nights and it was an excellent place. the building is charming, the rooms are large and clean, the staff helpful and friendly. we shared a bathroom, but it was fine, as they cleaned it regularly. it's not too close to the center, so we rented two bikes, which allowed us to be in the center in 2 minutes. it's just next to the main temple in louang prabang, so we could see the monks in the morning. the area was very quiet and beautiful, as it's full of charming french style villas.
be aware that there is a halolao backpacker, a halolao villa and a halolao homestay, so when you take the tuk tuk make sure they drive you to the right one (the backpacker is at the other side of the town).

Simple room with a good bed
8.3
This is a simple guest house. We had a double room with bath. The bed was very comfortable and there was a great ceiling fan, perfect for the cool evenings when A/C is not needed(but it was there if you wanted it). The WIFI was good and there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast was across the street at their sister hotel. The food was good, but not great. The location was very nice--close enough to walk everywhere, but away from all the crowds.

Very convenient, comfortable hotel
Wonderful location with easy access to transportation, restaurants, temples, Mekong River

our extended family of 11 stayed here for a week and had a fabulous experience. comfortable bedrooms and two wonderful living spaces so we could spread out when needed. gates on the property provided child friendly coutyard. internal stairs are very steep and we needed to create a barrier to keep toddlers safe. the staff were wonderful and especially attentive to the children. great value for money and a delightful place to stay - highly recommended
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Mekong boat trip
Elephant ride
Temple visits
Big Brother Mouse
Tom Tom Cheung Restaurant
Our second visit to Luang Prabang and we are already planning the next!

Nice, simple guesthouse
Guesthouse typical of the area. Just next to the UN World Heritage Site
7
it's located very near the river bend where the nam kang and mekong rivers meet. where the roads and alleys are lined with beautiful and picturesque guest houses. and most of all, your backyard is the u.n. world heritage sakarine buddhist temple itself. in effect this guest house is at the very center of luang prabang
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
always bring an umbrella. tour the city on foot or bike in the early morning (6-8am) to catch the Monks alms ceremony or(3-6pm)and avoid prolonged exposure to the harsh tropical sun.

seemed like a good idea at the time
Halolao homestay - helpful staff; halolao apartments - lovely apartment
7
I arrived at the homestay but the previous occupants hadn't signed out or returned their key, so the very helpful manager offered me an upgrade to their apartment building nearby, with bedroom, large private bathroom and shared communal area and kitchen with one other couple. Lovely apartment. I had stayed in a different hotel earlier in the week, which had always brought shoes in at night, so was very disappointed when I
left the next day, after it had rained most of the night to find everyone's shoes still outside and soaking wet. Not great before a long coach trip. The hotel also knew that I was leaving early, but noone was up and I had some difficulty raising the guy who was sleeping in the lobby behind a curtain.
As far as location goes, I decided to try here as it was at the other end of town to my original accomodation. Bad move, it would have been better to stay in the centre and just walk down to this part for a visit. However, for people with no time constraints, like the couple I shared with, it probably suits very well and I know they liked it there.

Great location, beautiful room
Nicely furnished, friendly staff
8.7
Thanks to the hotel staff for a nice room. I was upgraded to a better quality room than the one I was paying for - always great! I'd definitely recommend it for friendliness of staff and location. Not as central as some, but in a quieter part of town and only short walk to all sights.

Good location
Large room with extra dining room attached
5.7
Everything was fine, well average, with this guesthouse until we asks to stay an extra night. This seemed to confuse them no end even though we could see it was available on agoda. Problems with the shower, ie no hot water, were sorted within the hour, however every query seemed to require the staff to consult the boss!! Clean and comfortable but very average.

Basic hotel in quiet corner of the old town
location, next to big temple, close to slow boat pier
6.7
halolao homestay is a basic, clean accommodation. friendly staff, but not all of them speak english very well.
if you don't ask, your room will not be cleaned.
unfortunately no breakfast included, but there are many nice french bakeries in the neighbourhood.
location is good, center of old town and night market within walking distance.
Restaurant Tip:
Le banneton for breakfast!
