We stayed in the elephant crossing hotel for 3 nights in order to go river tubing. The hotel is in a great location over looking the mekong river and within walking distance to everything. The breakfast menu was limited but that didnt bother us too much and the rooms are basic however the hotel is not expensive and one of the best in vang vieng and I would stay there if we were to return to vang vieng
Good location away from the noise of the main street but still in walking distance. Lovely views over the mekong river.
The breakfast menu is very limited. The rooms are basic. Limited facilities

Whoever wrote the description ("Rooms are large and welcoming, reminiscent of early African safari lodges with dark wood and crisp linens.") is deluded. The Elephant Crossing Hotel is attempting to pass itself off as a mid-range alternative in a sea of budget/backpacker accommodations. And it fails to deliver. The listed prices at the hotel start at US$40 to $70 per night. This hotel is more like a $20 or less/night hotel. I was booked to stay three nights after having read the good reviews about the hotel. I checked out after one. While I paid $30 per night, it wasn't worth the price. The only good thing that I can say about the hotel is that it has a lovely view from the 3rd and 4th floors. (I don't know about the second floor's view and the first floor has a view of the parking lot.) Here are my complaints about the hotel. The first room that I was in had a bathroom that smelled. It also had a showerhead that had to be held because it was too short to reach the holder. This meant that I would have had to stoop down to get under the water and I am only 5 foot 1 inch (154 cm). The second room that I was in had a bathroom whose ceiling was covered in mold. There was also no shelving or counter to put anything down. Then there is the issue of the locks. The 1st floor room didn't have any security lock, just the door handle which didn't shut well. The 3rd floor room had a lock that needed to be replaced since it was falling off the door. And my biggest complaint would be the cleanliness of the room and the lack of good air conditioning. The blanket had stains of various colors and sizes. I was shown other rooms and all of them had dirty, stained blankets. There was also something stuffed into the corner of the ceiling, yet no one had ever removed it. The air conditioning was horrible. My room was slightly bigger than the double bed and yet it took 4 hours to cool the room down. There is a remote for the aircon but it doesn't work (I was told it was there for show.)
The view of the river and limestone mountains is very nice.
Dirty, staff unfriendly and not helpful, overpriced for what you get. Read my review for more details.
