We read a lot of reviews before choosing this hotel. We did not pay attention to what was NOT in the reviews. It is OK for a business traveler. There is no pool, the room was very small and the bathroom was mildewy. The shower head spun all around spraying the entire bathroom, in spite of a shower curtain, which was a bit funny but not very functional. We had to call maintenance two times before they finally repaired it.
The breakfast is good, but small and limited. Dinner was good but very expensive for the area.
We are vacationers and with the heat of Vientiane should have stayed in a place with a pool - again our mistake not the hotel's. But for the price we paid we could have stayed in a more posh hotel had we been more on the ball when booking.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

A little oasis

We stayed at the Ansara at the end of our 30 day trip. It was a bit nicer than most other places we had stayed at and with all rooms overlooking the garden area it was very quiet and tranquil. It had free wifi with in-room laptops provided. Also free soft drink mini bar and peanuts as well as fruit. Nice breakfast in the outdoor section, also a bar and French restaurant onsite. Good range of toiletries as well as mosquito repellent, not that we needed it.
Very handy for walking to the night markets and strolling along the park next to the Mekong River. Very close to lots of restaurants and not far from the main shopping area. Would stay here again.

Coming from Luang Prabang, the Ansara hotel is certainly disappointing as it was advertised as one of the gems of Vientiane. The rooms are like 13 in a dozen, with the exception of fast internet, which does not extend to the whole compound, however.
The hotel is located in a quiet alley in the midst of the tourist area with lots of backpackers hotels, foodjoints and restaurants. Mosquito repellent is supplied as one of the 'goodies' and with a reason. As of 17.00 the small garden is full of mosquitos.
Fiendly staff, but they do not have a staff gratuity box.
For Lao standards, we thought the hotel to be overpriced.
We did not try the restaurant, but there are many restaurants close by. Try the unassuming Ban Vilaylac restaurant around the corner. The menue looks dull, but the food is excellent Lao.
