Visa run bargain

La Ong Dao was as advertised. Clearly a bargain for those used to Bangkok. Cabs - really vans are expensive. 500 baht from the train station and 600 baht to the border seemed excessive. Tuk-tuk drivers are the same as Thailand. Bargain and bargain hard. The ten minute walk to the embassy should be a 30 baht ride but they'll try 100. Food is marginal. Eggs are cold, other food is lukewarm and undescribable. Edible but the preparation effort could be much improved. Don't even think about touching the mini-bar. 180 Baht for two cans of Beer Lao and a bag of chips. Beer in the dining room is expensive. Food, Khao Ped Gai, Kai dow was 23000Kip. Nearly 100 Baht. Walk down towards the embassy and a large bottle, 640ml, Beer Lao is 10,000 Kip. Wander around the city and you'll find it for 9000Kip. Food in Vientiane is not their long suit. All being said, for the money, La Ong Dao is clearly a good deal if you're making a visa run to the Thai embassy.
