Good location and pool. Room decor was nice

Internet service in room an Wi-Fi in lobby and Pool area cost $12 per day! Weekday breakfast buffet was $13 per person with tax and tip. King siized bed was two single beds pushed together with sheet over them.

My wife and I stayed there for 5 nights in November of 2009. The hotel is nice, but little things prevented a great review. The weekday breakfast buffet was nice but at least triple the cost of a comparable buffet in Thailand. It was included in the normal rack rate but not free for those booking through Agoda. The hotel has a disco and the area has 2 others. It was only 2 blocks to the Mekong River, but our Thai sim cards did not work unless we walked down to the river.

Comfortable room, friendly service

Expensive transport service to airport, unattractive dining facilities

Staff was friendly and very helpful, and we had a pleasant stay. Room was comfortable though not luxurious. Good value for money. Transfer from the hotel to the airport was expensive, however.

Bedrooms are larger than normal , old world ambiance

Out of town location

This is an old hotel which has changed little over time. That said everything works well and if you like a little old world charm this is the place to stay. It's a little out of town but the hotel has courtesy transport and Vientiane is so small getting to the center of town is a 10 min or less trip. There are better places to stay but the Novotel does it for me.

Travel tip : Food is , well there are lots of great places to eat in Vientiane

Visually the Novotel has all the charms of the classic colonial style hotel. Maids and other auxiliary staff were friendly and efficient. I received a complimentary ride to the airport.

the Accor Group, namely that all requirements by guests are an additional expense with little relativity to the local economy. In a land noted for its smiling friendliness, the male reception staff are unusually unfriendly.

My check in set the tone for the rest of my stay which unfortunately was prepaid. My booking could not be found, and when I suggested that I email the confirmation I had received days before, I was informed that internet access was US$12 per day. This is the first hotel I have stayed in throughout South East Asia that charges for internet. The explanation from the reception staff was that I had paid a discount price for my room and therefore did not deserve the service for free was in itself an extraordinary statement for hotel staff to make in public. This would also be the first hotel I have stayed at in SEA that charges for breakfast. I was eventually checked in to find that my room did have a desk but no chair. This was soon remedied. I eventually did buy internet time and after getting assurance that it would be for 24 hours, had it installed in my room at 2pm. This would allow me to continue working the next day until checkout at 12pm. However this proved to be not the case, and I was told I would have to buy an extra days use the next morning. I did not use the restaurant; in fact I was never told where it was, so I have rated it in the middle. I would never use this hotel again and have instructed my staff to avoid booking any Accor Group hotel in future.

A very well maintained Hotel

None

In general, there is a lack of tourist information in Vientiane except for the Tourist Information Centre. I suggest the hotel could provide this value added service by providing the information in the form of pamphets such as the tourist map and informaion on various tourist attractions. The availability of a tour desk at the hotel would also be an added advantage

Beautiful hotel. Great pool, which was rarely used. Good buffet breakfast selection. Free tennis with equipment!

You pay for everything, even a city map! If your room is at the end of the long corridor on the left of the stairs you may be interrupted from an early slumber by the music from the disco below.

Check in was smooth but we were given no information about any facilities, what time for breakfast, where the bar/restaurant was etc.Room was fine although why there was only one chair in a double room I am not sure- some rooms I noticed had settees in them however. Room overlooked the pool which was lovely.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The city itself is small so you can visit it all in one easy day. You will be more than likely ripped off good style if you use local tuktuks. You can bargain a minibus from the Friendship Bridge to the hotel/city for Baht 250 equivalent (wanted Baht 600 at first). The Mekong itself is very disappointing here.Pay your visa in US Dollars and save money

Hotel clean and tidy

Reception staff

On arrival at the hotel I found the two male reception staff to be unwelcoming and quite miserable in their attitude towards me. The room was just about OK but in my opinion way overpriced in comparison to other hotels in Vientiane more centrally located. Breakfast was just about acceptable but ridiculously expensive. The price of breakfast should be included in the room rate. Hotel occupancy was about 5% which suggests to me that other tourists/businessmen think that the room rates are too high especially for this time of the year. I certainly will not stay at the hotel again in the future.

Restaurant Tip : Khop Chai Deu

This is an old pre communist Lao PDR hotel. Loads of history and is in a nice location.

It is aging slightly. Traffic is getting more and more. Yes, Lao PDR now has traffic. gone are the days of quiet bicyclists, pedestrians, rickshaws, and the odd scooter, lada, or benz.

Nice location, nice hotel. One of the tops in Vientiane.

Nightlife Tip : This area is full of nightlife...right in the hotel and up or down the stretch.

A modern well run hotel

Just a little out of town. Breakfast not included in the price.

A very well run hotel with friendly and helpful staff who all spoke English. A little out of town but the centre easily accessable by the hotel mini bus or a Tuk-Tuk. The rooms are luxurious and well maintained. An enjoyabel stay all round.

Nice room, nice staff

over-priced

Feel like the amount of money was too much for Laos and the hotel itself.. In Thailand had a much nicer place that was 4-star for half the price. It was a 15min walk away from the "city center" but still seemed that I could have got a better deal if I looked a bit harder. Probably wouldn't stay there again as a backpacker looking to treat herself although I was overall satisfied...

Travel tip : There was really nothing I found in Vientiane.. sorry

Rooms were clean and comfortable

Too noisy if you have pool facing rooms. There was no complimentary pick up from airport and there are no phone numbers to contact the hotel when you arrive. The Novotel desk was unmanned for 30 minutes before finally getting taxi. It can't be that hard to have people on duty synchronised to daily flight arrivals.

There is a nightclub across the road "HiWaiMan" which has music so loud that you could think you're in its bar. The music doesn't cease until after 1,2, or even 3 am depending on how late in the week it is. The hotel also has its own nightclub which is noisy and has lots of traffic noise late at night. If you're a party animal then this place is for you. Business and family travelers should avoid. Staff seem oblivious to the problem when raised and seem surprised when you make the comment on the noise as if you're the first.

Travel tip : Breakfast is bland.... head to river, turn left for about 50 yards and you can get better value breakfast with pleasant river ambiance. Email hotel with your arrival details to make sure they have complimentary pick up for you. The taxi fare isn't a bank breaker at 6US$ but the distance is ridiculously small, you could walk it without luggage quite easily.
