good air condition, good bed, spacious and clean suite room.

very uninviting pool area, no gardens. very tired looking hotel and food very standard.

i booked this hotel after seeing the photographs, these were taken some years before. for a boutique hotel i was expecting nice garden views from a suite room, there are no gardens. the pool is tired looking and you feel uncomfortable just looking at it. and the food is okay. i would say there are better and cheaper hotels on the riverside.

Travel tip : lots of good temples and some great food.

Pleasant hotel. Comfortable rooms.

Breakfast is on the lower side of adequate, from a Western perspective. In particular, the way that the eggs are piled high is rather off-putting. Although there is enough to eat, it's just not presented very well and rarely changes.

A pleasant hotel, with good-sized rooms. The beds are wonderfully comfortable. The hotel is away from the Mekong River - about 30 mins by foot, or five minutes by tuk tuk. If you're working at any of the UN offices on Lane Xiang Avenue, it's superbly well located. There are a couple of decent restaurants within easy walking distance, or you have the main tourist area about 20 mins walk away. A couple of ATMs are located close to the hotel. The hotel's own restaurant is no more than OK, but there are a good number of other options nearby. Staff always friendly and willing to help.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The Friendship Bridge is about 30-40 mins by tuk tuk, and about 10 mins less by proper vehicle. The fare by tuk tuk is around 100 - 200 Bhat. The hotel's own transport charges a whopping 800 Bhat for the same trip.

Friendly desk clerk.

Needs total remodeling job. Breakfast and lunch buffet poor.Smells. No hangers in closet. Closet doors falling apart. No bath tub.

We went with this hotel because we could not find another one available on Agoda on the date needed. Although the photos looked quite nice the reality was quite different. This hotel is worth avoiding if there is any other hotel in Vientiane available. It is a 40 year old hotel that has not been maintained. What I don't understand is that the management could at any time walk into a competive hotel and realize thier own difficencies and work toward correcting them. But they don't. There is no excuse in today's global society that we should have to make negative comments about cleanliness, poor food quality and such poorly maintained establishments. The room smelled of years of smoking even though we asked for a smoke free room. The breakfast and or lunch buffet was as if you arrived in a guest house 20 years ago. I have lived in Thailand for many years and have travelled extensively to Laos and neigboring countries can add this one to the "NO Return" list. There is a new boutique hotel that just opened accross from the morning market that is immaculate and priced the same as the Ramayana.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go out the door and turn right to walt to the morning market. About a 10 minute walk.

Great room. Near Patuaxi. Helpful staff.

Location may not be for everyone. Breakfast so so.

First off, I've read some of the reviews before I booked – they ranged from dump to palace. I needed a room for one night so took a chance. Maybe I got lucky, but I got the palace. There is no comparison to the Inter City, which I stayed at for 3 nights. The room was well above average in size and beautifully decorated. Bathroom was a little dated but everything worked as did the A/C and WI FI. If your distination is Pha That Luang, Patuxi or the day market, the location is good. Other tourist things are a long way. I only found one restaurant – a Lao/Chinese place -within walking distance.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You'll need Tuk Tuk negotiating skills or it's long walks in the heat!

Good location, can go to the morning market,Patuxai, President Place, Wat SiSaket and Wat Haw Pha Kaew in walking distance

No restuarant nearby. No free shuttle bus from/to airport

Location is good. Can go to the morning market,Patuxai, President Place, Wat SiSaket and Wat Haw Pha Kaew in walking distance. The room is clean. People is nice there with welcome drink when checking in However it is difficult for us to find a restaurant near the Hotel. We walk for a long distance to a restaurant for dinner.

room size, price

poor location for siteseeing food not that great

I booked this place for the price without looking at a map. The location is not good at all for site seeing although it is easy enough to get an overpriced tuk-tuk. The staff was friendly and had better than average English skills. The room was big and adequate with the bathroom. The building is an old-style hotel, hence the large rooms and they have a reasonable good job in upkeep. It was very quiet there and we didn't here anything up on the 5th floor. Because of the location, I would not stay there again unless I had to bring a large group. For large group tours I think it is ideal. One thing though, the traffic in that area is very bad early morning, so book your taxi for the airport in good time. Don't take the overpriced hotel transfer.

The staff were generally very friendly.

My bathroom floor had water covering half of it when I checked in. The hotel needs to be updated as it is showing its age. Room service was a joke. I dailed three numbers and failing that, physically placed my order at reception. They still got it wrong!

I would not stay at this hotel again. My bathroom floor had water covering half of it when I checked in. Generally speaking the entire hotel needs to be updated as it is showing its age. Room service was a joke. I dailed three numbers ("Try this number...") and failing that, physically placed my order at reception. They still got it wrong! From a positive perspective, the staff were generally friendly and there was tv and free Internet.

quiet, clean, good service. breakfast reasonable, very close to morning market

transport service to airport not easily available

situated in a quiet part of the city but very close to the city centre and the major scenic sites. The rooms facing inside are particularly quiet and smoke free. the facilities inside the room are adequate. The breakfast and dinnner are reasonable for a three star hotel. The staff are polite and helpful. The massage service is very good.I will book this hotel again in the future.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : the charge of tok-tok is highly variable and one should have the exact amount of money ready before you pay.

Very Nice Rooms Very Clean

Location is a bit inconvenient Pool was not very clean Breakfast was not good

This hotel was very nice, rooms were nice. Staff were friendly. But the pool wasn't very clean and the breakfast wasn't great - didn't even provide toast as the toaster broke and wasn't replaced while we stayed there!

Clean, helpful staff, good location

Checkout did not go very smooth.

Checkout did not go very smooth - Credit Card machine was down and the hotel escorted me to bank machines around town until we found a working one ( communications in the area were obviously down). They said they can not manually process a credit card and this was the only way to solve it. This caused me a 1.5 hour delay in my checkout and I almost missed my flight.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Not much to see in this city. You can tour the city in a day.

Nice rooms, good price, extremely helpful staff

Not much oc a western choice at breakfast. No hot water in the basin in room. (by design).

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Ramayana and would recommend it to anyone. It was inexpensive, comfortable with lovely staff who couldn't have been more helpful. The downside of not having much of a western choice at breakfast was quickly forgotten (I don't know any hotels in the UK that serve Lao food!!). The only point I didn't like was the absence of hot water to shave with in the bathroom. I would stay there again and again.

Travel tip : It is less than 2 minutes walk from the famous morning market.

The hotel has been re-modeled lately with new design, very nice and comfortable! It's also very close to Patuxai and other attractions such as the morning market.

Well, the humidity at the corridors are kind of hard to handle. But then again, we stay in the room, not always walking on the corridor, so, it's manageable!

I love this hotel, basically due to its reasonable price with such a nice deco and design! Plus, the staff are very friendly as well, after a few days since my first visit, they still remembered me and said, "welcome back!" I love its location, very centralised, especially close to Patuxai, and the morning market. I surely will stay in this hotel again!

The best part of the hotel is that it's so close to the morning market, just besides it actually! And it's close to National Museum (opposite) and the Mount Phousi (also opposite!) - and within 50 meter it's already the evening handicraft market! All within walking distance! what else could U ask for? :) besides, the staff are extra friendly, and helpful! I love their smiles! I really Do! :)

The only thing is that U may hear the 'morning alarm' from the temple so close to it! at 5'45 am. But then again, U are in Luang Prabang, U don't expect to sleep late isn't it? U got to wake up and see the monks' morning offering...

I truly had an enjoyable experience in this Hotel: The Ramayana Boutique Hotel and Spa, Luang Prabang! The best part of the hotel is that it's so close to the morning market, just besides it actually! And it's close to National Museum (opposite) and the Mount Phousi (also opposite!) as well - and within 50 meter it's already the evening handicraft market! All within walking distance! what else could U ask for? :) Besides, the staff are extra friendly, and being so helpful they will take the extra mile to make sure that u have been taken care of! I am so touched when a lady staff standing by the roadside to wait for and make sure that my tuk-tuk arrived on time! And that young lady in the restaurant who always served with smiles and asking if I still need anything else....I love their smiles! I really Do! :) Well, I know there are negative comments on this hotel mainly on its weak sound proof, but then again, this is an antique building, we could have asked for anything better! :) Loving it! Thanks!

Location Rooms are great Very helpful staff Housekeeping was great.

None

My wife and I and daughter were more than pleased with our stay at this hotel. I have read other reviews and anything written before 2009 should be completely ignored. They are still remodeling and everything and great. The art work through out the hotel is interesting and we enjoyed it. We reserved a deluxe suite and were totally amazed with the room, especially at the price we paid. The cold drink upon arrival was really welcomed. We needed maintenace for a small problem and they knocked at the door almost before we hung the phone. We can't wait to return on our next trip.

Restaurant Tip : Check with the staff for restaurants. Let them know what type of food you want and they will recommend a couple of choices. We were never dissatisfied with their recommendations.
