The Syuen promises more than it delivers. It was a bad experience from the moment I checked in when what was booked was not delivered. I reserved two rooms and requested for a king and a double but only two doubles was given. When asked for a king, the duty manager was harsh and acted as if I changed my mind when the actual fact is that they probably did not even read the request. The room is functional but very out-of-date and old. It is still key driven and facilities like the TV is old. Security safe was not reset and hot water is inconsistent. Went to check the pool but it was in such bad condition that I didn't even dared to enter. Water was murky, area looked disheveled and no staff was on duty. Big contrast from what was promised on the site. If you are looking for a conveniently located hotel, take up the Excelsior. It's equally old and jaded but half the price of the Syuen. For better comforts, go to Casuarina.

Convenient location

Poor upkeep of room and facilities, weak customer service

  • Restaurant Tip : Visit YumYum Thai Restaurant a short walk away. Good food and I recommend their Pandan Chicken.

I wish I'd stayed longer.

  • Nightlife Tip : Go to one of the cafe's in the shopping centre almost opposite and have some local food for lunch. Later just nearby you can have hawkers food and watch Hong Kong tv out in the open with a couple of beers.

Beware of the high rate when you use the room telephone. My call to a local hand phone for 25 minutes cost me 50+ ringgits!!! The Superior room is very poor. I was compelled to upgrade to a Delux room. It cost me another 50+ ringgits per night.
