Clean, comfortable and in the park but not cheap
Location, views and surroundings

The rooms were clean and comfortable and the hotel is located in the park itself. However, the rooms are basic for the price.

Nepenthes Lodge
Location, location, location!
5.7
There would be no reason to stay here apart from its location. The food was expensive, poor quality and many choices on the menu were "not available". The breakfast that was included with the room was dreadful. Breakfast was a buffet from 6.30 to 11am. But it was prepared for 6.30 and was not replenished. So if you went for breakfast anytime after 8am, it was cold and many things had run out. If you asked for more, they said "no, it is finished"! The restaurant staff in both restaurants were unhelpful and disinterested. Reception was unhelpful. The housekeeping staff were excellent, cheerful and friendly - far better than any other staff I encountered there.

I enjoyed our stay! Were upgraded to the Liwagu Suite from the Hill Lodge. The suite was far mucgh better from the hill odge. Cleand & nice with excellent view from the balcony. I enjoyed the nature, the weather & the location. . Food from the restaurant next to the suite was really bad, please dont waster your money. Buffet breakfast in Blassm restaurant was okay, Overall, the staff were all very friendly 7 helpful.

Nice Hotel with great views of Kinabalu Peak
The Liwagu Suite is the best place to stay ithe Park or nearby
8.3
The Liwagu Suite was really nice. The room looks out over the park and the bed is upstairs. With children you could let them sleep downstairs. The breakfast & dinner is quite a walk down to the park entrance but lunch is served in the same building. The temperature is very pleasant (low 20's) and the environment is great. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
It is quite easy to drive from Kota Kinabalu (90 minutes) and the roads are reasonably well marked.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Get up early to get the best views of Kinabalu Peak. The view is great from the Park Entrance. It clouds over later in the morning.

Excellent location
Its location within the Kinabalu National Park
8.7
This hotel actually consists in a number of separate lodges of varying facilities. Hill Lodge, in which we stayed, ahs several separate cabin-type rooms. Ours was spacious and comfortable. Meals are taken in separate buildings for breakfast and dinner, and the dinner restaurant was particularly pleasant. The food locations are quite some distance from the rooms and there is a shuttle bus service, although we had our own hire car available.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Make sure you know where to find the hotel - look on Google maps to doouble check the location.

Lovely hotel and relaxation surroundings
6.3
A nice place for holidays. However, it is a bit far from places like Kundansang & Hot Spring. For those who intend to pay a visit to those places and choose to stay in this hotel, you may need to consider spending 2 nights in the hotel.

Great view & surrounding but on the expensive side
Mount Kinabalu and surrounding nature
7
The Hill Lodge provides an awesome view of Mount Kinabalu on a clear day. Although it was well kept and clean, the interior was old and the lighting was a bit dim.
The breakfast buffet spread was very limited so it wasn't worth the quoted price. If it's not included in your hotel stay, you're better off eating somewhere else or bringing your own food.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Try to avoid the rainy season. And it's better to have your own transport to go the nearby towns of Kundasang, Poring, etc.
