Staff is ok, but all accomodation is very old and dammaged. The chambers smells uggly. THe carpet floor is discusting. The breakfast is very poor. In the high season was the swimming pool in renovation and closed. The name of the hotel is several times changed in 2 years. That will mean something! I will not recomment this hotel to anyone. This is absolute not a 4* hotel.

The hotel is visibly not as new as its competitors, its age is rather apparent from the interiors, but it's halfway through a paintjob when I went there. Great room, great facilities, great service. Get the package with breakfast cos it's very good. Note that while they boast a seafront or mountain view, the seafront view is now obstructed by a new building, and the mountain view now competes with a crane on another construction site. Location is very accessible without the usual peak hour jams of the main city area.
Travel tip:
While you are there check out the nearby seafood restaurant - it's a walkable distance away. Tanjung Aru nearby is a great place to catch a beautiful sunset.

The lighting along the walkway to the room is too dim.
The walllight above the bed is very glaring and one of it is dropping off. One bedside table is not available.
Hair dryer installed at inconvenient position.
Room not sound proof.
Breakfast value for money.

I am pleasantly stay in Sabah Oriental Hotel formerly was call Beverly Hotel! Good Service (always smile), location (walk to town 10 minutes), big room (supprise the value price got the bigger room and washroom), valueable (only US$45 p.n), housekeeping was perfect, free parking for inhouse guest, free local west breakfast....overall are perfect for me!!!! Good Job!!!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
3 island trip Mamukti, Manunkan, Sapi! Nightlife in waterfront!

A pity the swimming pool is under renovation, otherwise the pool is a nice place to chill out. Great view of Mt Kota Kinabalu. One con is that the aircon seems to be not cooling enough.

imperfect location: it is quite outside of the town which takes around 10 minutes walk from hotel
large room: even the room is large, i'm not so into with the decoration.
parking: similar to other hotels, they offer free parking for inhouse guest
