Sevice with a smile

this was our 3rd time to the beverly hotel. alhough it is starting to show it's age, the location and friendliness of the staff far outway that.
we had a junior suite which included breakfast daily. we found the breakfast to be a lovely mix of both asian and western style food. the coffee was very good too!
the hotel has a large pool, which was well used by others (not by us though, we are not the swimming types!) there was also a full gym.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
head out to lok kawi animal park. it is a wonderful attraction! if two or more of you are travelling, it is cheaper to get a taxi than to take a tour. just make sure to negotiate a rate before going. the taxi drivers will also give you a price for waiting for you. we found this to be much cheaper and more convenient than going on a tour.

Good Hotel, Location is not bad

KK is a very small town, but this hotel is not in the middle of this town, however you can walk anywhere that you want.
There is no restaurant if you want to walk maximum 5 minutes. Rooms is big enough, old hotel but clean and comfortable. Good staff, Excellent breakfast and clean public area are the most attraction of this hotel.

Our stay was at the hotel was a moderately great experience. The location was quite convenient since it was near the airport and the shopping places were just within walking distance range. the staff were accommodating. Over all, I will recommend the hotel to other tourist.

Basic hotel with basic facilities

For the price, its not up to standard, the hotel is somewhat old and smells like it as well. Very minimal facilities and the gym looks like a rundown public gym.
The staff are quite nice and the service is just okay.
The food is horrible. Don't eat anything from there, just walk a couple of minutes to the city center.
Overall, it worked for me as i was there for business and didn't want too much distraction but i would at least expect better food/choices.

So nice we booked it twice

Although the Beverly Hotel is looking a little shabby, we enjoyed our stay so much that we booked it again on our return to Kota Kinabalu a week after our first visit. The main reason was the very friendly staff. Nothing was too much of a bother for them. From a very early check in (7.00am) to a late departure and the offer to store bags cinched the deal for us. The hotel is only a short walk to two of the big shopping centres and there is a supermarket very close by. The hotel also has a large taxi rank right at the door. Breakfast was included in our very reasonable room rate. Overall we found the meals (including breakfast) to be of a fairly high standard and certainly reasonable in cost.
The hotel unfortunately does not have too much of a view (we booked a junior suite for both stays and ended up ocean side on the sixth and ninth floors, so had a view of the ocean, but I would think the lower floors would not get too much of a view, particularly if you are in a room on the city side.
All in all a very pleasant stay. One that I would certainly say was value for money compared to some of the other hotels we have stayed at in KK and Sabah in general.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Tours seem expensive throughout Sabah. Research carefully as if there is more than one travelling in almost all cases, we found that hiring a cab was cheaper by quite a bit. The cab drivers are happy to quote you a price there and back and a seperate price to wait for you at your tour destination. We found this to be a very special service, plus we had our taxi drivers give us some hints and tips on what to do.

Older style hotel, but a lovely place to stay

the airport is only about 10 mins from the beverly and the shops only a 10 min walk, so all is very close. the shopping area is quite spread out along the waterfront, but there is a good supermarket only about 10 mins stroll from the hotel. the property could do with a refurb, but for the price we paid, we were very happy. breakfast was included in our room rate and we found the food very good. room service meals were very well priced compared to some of the other hotels we stayed at in the area. the staff are very friendly and only too happy to help. all in all an enjoyable stay.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Grab a taxi and head out to Lok Kawi Wildlife reserve (a taxi plus waiting fee is still much cheaper than booking a tour if two or more are traveling. There is a great animal show in the mornings, where you have macaws flying over your head and a wonderful orangutan who shows us all he is much better at peeling a coconut than any man! There a lots of local animals to see, plus a few ring ins. We spent about 4 hours all up and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
