Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Ambience and room condition good.
WiFi connection no good. Signal very weak in hotel room. Have to go to hotel lobby in order to get connection.
Jesselton hotel is well located within the city. Ambience is good except for large number of birds which gather on the trees outside the entrance. The bird feather is a nuisance and also fear of bird flu. The WiFi connection is not good in the hotel room. Signal strength is always zero. Have to go to hotel lobby in order to get access to network.

Friedly staff. Quiet location large room
Not as close to the main part of the city as you could be.
Although we only stayed one night here and did not sample the restaurant we had a very pleasant stay at a reasonable price. This hotel is a short walk from the largest shopping centre, Centre Point and the Waterfront but it is in a quiet area with afew restaurants very close by. We ate in the local restaurant opposite the hotel which was popualr with the locals. The food was good and the price was amazingly cheap! The hotel seems quite old but is clean and cosy. Staff were helful and friendly and as we were leaving early they gave us a packed breakfast to take with us. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay. It is not as plush as some of the others but good for the price.

Small, intimate, friendly with a touch of the colonial feel. Ideally situated in the central part of the old town. Comfortable rooms with all facilities although a small fridge would have been nice.
Billed as American breakfast, could be better. Understand cannot compete with larger establishments for choice, however a choice of juices and yoghurt would be nice
We arrived by Taxi from airport and welcomed at small reception and immediately shown to our room on the first floor, easily accessible by lift or stairs. Room was small and comfortable with bath and shower and dressing table for the ladies. Maid service everyday was efficient. Room safe in wardrobe with robe and slippers. Coffee/tea making facilities.Don't expect a great view, our room faced the rear of the hotel. Gaya street Sunday market right on your doorstep. Very good for local produce, souvenirs especially Sabah pearls for the experts.
Travel tip : New internet cafe close by only RM1 per 20mins

personal service, boutique hotel. lovely rooms and the feeling of being treated as a guest not just a customer.
Couyld have used an internet connection - bit had to go elsewhere.
We stayed on two occasions at the Jessleton and found the overall experinece to be quite charming. The hotel is not large, but the staff clearly care about thier guests and want them to enjoy thier experience. The hotel is old but definitly not tired. We will be back.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Everything is close by - restaurants, shops and bars. The waterfron at KK is delightful.

A very warm welcome awaits travellers at this well appointed hotel. From the pith helmeted, short trousered doorman(a great touch from a bygone era)to the "nothing is too much trouble"service at reception,it makes arriving here a pleasurable experience. The hotel has plenty of character, with the mock colonial wood and marble. The beds are so comfy,a soft matress, the softest pillows and the best nights sleep of our trip!!The rooms are spotless and to a good standard.Location is another plus with plenty of bars and restaurants within a 2 minute walk and the seafront within a steady 5 min stroll and the main tourist information centre is very close by.
The breakfast menu wasnt up to much, along with the size of the portions. Breakfast was served in what appeared to be a franchised restaurant attached to the hotel
We would definatley stay at the Jesselton Hotel again as our first choice. Its only a small hotel but has character in abundance, its also Kota Kinabalu's oldest hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are amazingly clean and are kept that way during your stay. The staff are the most curteous and helpfull we encountered on our trip. There are loads of great bars and restaurants near by and its not far to the night markets on the sea front. We never had a evening meal at the hotel so cant comment on that, but, our only downside was the rather dull breakfast menu, the small portion of food was acceptable but not great.Apart from this its a great place to stay, well Lord and Lady Mountbatten were regular guests here and you can see why.

Great location, right in the centre of Kota Kinabalu, on a quiet street which on Sundays becomes a pedestrian-only market. Friendly, helpful staff. Very good breakfast and excellent room service menu. Old-world atmosphere. Clean and comfortable.
Just a couple of small things - a leak at the bottom of the bathtub and no remote for the a/c which meant I could't control the temperature.
My wife and I were delighted with the Jesselton. It has the combination of heritage features, comfort, friendliness, quality F&B, great location and reasonable pricing we were looking for. Its location at the centre of the town's Sunday market afforded us a very pleasant introduction to Sabahan produce, art, culture and lifestyle. The hotel building is a landmark in itself - it stands out as a beacon of colonial stylishness which is distinctive and refreshing in comparison with the town's rather drab architecture.
Shopping Tip : Try to stay over a Sunday, the Sunday market outside the hotel's front door is delightful. Also, it's an easy walk to KK's waterfront area with its selection of restaurants, pubs and bars.

Price through Agoda, the great Italian restaurant, the doormen dressed as jungle explorers.
Kota Kinabalu it quite dirty, nothing to do in the hotel when it rains. And boy does it rain.
The Jesselton is a good hotel. It's not luxurious but the service is good, the staff are friendly and the food is good. In some Malaysian hotels the hotel itself is the focus of the holiday, such as on Langkawi. Not so here. It's just acity hotel, good rooms, decent breakfast. I wouln't say it's romantic, it could be anywhere in the world.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go whitewater rafting with Riverbug. It's an unbelievably fantastic day.

Good location
Good value
Nice quaint hotel
Breakfast was limited
Small rooms, although quite cosy.
We had really good service from friendly polite staff.
Definitely better value for money than the big name hotels in KK.
Great location, especially for the Sunday market which is on the street in front of the hotel.
We both agree if we were to return to KK we would almost certainly book this hotel again.
p.s. the collonial style hunting hats worn by the doorman are hillarious!

Clean room. Good location and quiet. Sunday market at doorstep. Attentive and polite staff. Recognize guest immediately.
Stayed 3 nights. Upon check-in realised no fridge and kettle. Upon request immediately sent both items top the room. Kudos to the housekeeping staff.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Sunday Market. Walking distance to Jesselton Pier for island hopping.

Rooms were very clean and nicely taken care of - you don't realize how old the hotel actually is. The location is the best if you love dining out local style. Friendly staff - a bellboy will open the door for you no matter what time it is. Will stay at here again if I've got a chance.
No POOL - but that's probably why the rooms are so cheap. Also, little far from all the jetties.
Breakfast was nothing spectacular.
Vest value for the money - totally recommendable. I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel.
Restaurant Tip : Fatt Key - not bad, but not as legendary as some people were writing about it in their blogs.

The staff are all very friendly and somehow knows your name and that adds a personal touch.
Hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to the promenade and the jetty and good eating places
room had no fridge and there were mosquitos in the room
Our stay was for 3 nights and we enjoyed the stay very much. We liked the friendly service of the staff and the prompt response of the room service and maintainence staff.
The free newspaper was an added welcome. The room was of a decent size and clean. The in room free beverage service was also nice. Most welcomed was the daily free bottled water.
Free breakfast was included as paart of the room package and there was a good selection of choice.
Overeall it was a very pleasant stay and we plan to return in the near future to this hotel

- Modern Facilities
- Free WiFi
- Near Everywhere
- Clean
- Friendly Helpful Staff
- Good Pricing for all the things you get
- Can be more brighter ambiance at night
- Can improve more on the cleanliness although, its generally clean.
I loved my stay here at this hotel, the staffs are really friendly, the rooms are clean, and the location is great. Almost walking distance to everywhere; food, ferry terminal, shopping malls.
The street where the hotel is located is actually the best looking street in the whole town of KK. It has the quaint little "european" feel...
Overall, this is a hotel that I will stay again and by far the most impressive hotel with the kind of price that they offer in the whole of KK.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It takes 2 hours drive to go to Mount Kinabalu. Must go to Little Italy, 2 streets away from the hotel. Good selection of Italian food, must go there early as the queue might get long -- during peak timings.

Just been renovated. Lobby, corridoors and room were beautiful.
Good value for the money.
Staff very nice.
Cannot think of one Con. Everything was perfect.
The Jesselton manages to hang on to that old-world charm. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful about things to do and see in KK. The doorman was cute in his khakis and pith helmet (attempting to look very British, but his white knee-socks kept slipping down his skinny little legs. He tries, anyway.)
The hotel has a very good Italian restaurant adjoining, and the breakfasts are served there too. Good English breakfast complete with baked beans, but no pork sausage or bacon of course (muslim). The turkey sausage and the beef "rashers" were just fine.
All in all, it was a very pleasant experience
to stay at the Jesselton, and we were sorry to leave.
Restaurant Tip : They have a "happy hour" at the hotel's restaurant
From 5-7 pm the pizzas are half price. Very tasty,
but beware ! The way you order a pizza at this restaurant is weird. Any and every topping you have will have a cost, depending on the size of the pizza. So the half price only refers to the pizza crust and basic tomato sauce and cheese !
It was still good, and we had no complaints, but be warned..

Price was too high..better service ..
I must say that we have great hope for this hotel..In "old English style " it's stand..
The price for this hotel is too high, for less money we get a hotel room at the Promenade..and that was a 4 star hotel.
Jesselton Hotel must be better too serve there guests.
Jesselton is not a 4 star hotel..most like a 2-3 star hotel.
Shopping Tip : The best with Jesselton was the sundays , when it was the Gaya market on the street.

Personal, comfortable, value-for-money, central
Restaurant menu unimaginative - it was once removed from fast food and you can get that anywhere!
Returning to KK after forty years was an interesting experience but the Jesselton kept me anchored between the 60's and the 21 st century. Old-world charm and hospitality amid congested streets never built for more thna the odd car!
Restaurant Tip : Try the Ocean restaurant for excellent seafood!
