Kuala Lumpur, popularly known as KL is the cultural as well as the economic center of Malaysia and is also the residence of the King. Founded in 1857, it is relatively young compared to other Malaysian cities. The airport located 50 km away from the city is an easy entry point, with several major airlines flying direct.
Traveling around KL is almost hassle free with three separate rail transport systems linking all major spots in the city and the surrounding suburbs. Alternatively you can also ride the buses or for a much faster journey hail a cab.
Budget accommodation is mainly found in and around the KL China town area, while mid-range and luxury hotels are located in the Golden Triangle area surrounded by shops, restaurants and entertainment.
The city has a vibrant nightlife, with trendy nightclubs and bars-Golden Triangle, Bintang area, and Heritage Row is where you’ll find pulsating music and enticing cocktails.
Kuala Lumpur has a fair share of restaurants, coffee shops and street carts. Just be aware that most restaurants close by 10 pm, but if hunger strikes late, the food stalls are open till late, and will offer authentic Malaysian cuisine at an affordable price.
KL is famed for its architecture, and shopping. The Petronas Twin Towers is a favorite site for tourists, and beneath the towers in the Suria KLCC, one of Malaysia’s premier shopping destinations. In recent times, KL has developed into a shopping destination with over 60 shopping malls, in addition to the markets, which sell locally manufactured products. It is further enhanced by the mega sale, which takes place thrice a year during the months of March, May and December. Head over to Chinatown and Little India for a taste of street shopping with their traditional shopping streets selling Asian wares.
