KL Sentral

KL Sentral is wedged between Chinatown and Mid Valley City. It’s in the heart of commercial Kuala Lumpur, in easy reach of favorite shopping and sightseeing districts. KL Sentral doubles as Kuala Lumpur’s most important transport hub, especially convenient for tourists who want to stay mobile while visiting the city. From elsewhere in the Kuala Lumpur, the easiest way in is through Bangsar LRT station.

In 2001, KL Sentral station opened, overtaking the colonial-era railway station as Kuala Lumpur’s most important ground transport hub. Intercity trains terminate here, branching into commuter lines and the KL monorail with service to KLCC. Anyone seeing Malaysia by rail is sure to pass through KL Sentral at least once. Mixed accommodation near KL Sentral includes a few budget and up-market options.

East of the train station is Brickfields, better known as Little India. Brickfields is famous for its Indian restaurants and marketplaces which specialize in spices, saris and batik. With the opening of KL Sentral, Little India went from a notorious district better avoided to a popular tourist attraction. Its shops, temples and restaurants are lively, but safe, and this remains one of the most convenient places to be based in Kuala Lumpur.

Hotels in KL Sentral include no-frills guesthouses and posh franchise hotels, without much in between. The latter opened with the train station and were partially responsible for Little India’s improved reputation.
