Fairly well kept (in terms of grounds and overall area cleanliness); Common area in the entrance had very pleasent lemongrass scent; spacious room
Uninterested/unprofessional service staff; Average breakfast; small gym; average pool; inconveniently located
When I mentioned to friends the price that I paid for 2 nights at the hotel I was told it was a good deal. After my 2-night stay, I do not think it was a good deal at all. To highlight in brevity - 75% of the service staff (across all levels and areas) do not appear to be happy working and project an obligatory and uninterested service response; breakfast is average but made worse by lack of proper wait service (e.g. when asked for coffee, was pointed out the location of the coffee corner and directed to get the coffee myself, complete set of cutlery was not always provided but when requested for, was provided with less than clean cutlery); location of the area where cleared dishes are collected was wholly inappropriate (i.e. located at the exits through which guests walk through to the tables outside); I was there to attend a friend's wedding and the banquet service was one of the worst (e.g. I was informed that there was no more wine, when it was not the case, as I noticed guests being served wine when I stepped outside the ballroom; service staff could definately benefit from being trained on table/banquet serving). On checkout, I filled out the feedback questionaire. However, due to lack of space to fully illustrate the areas that the hotel could improve on, I had stated within that I would be happy to be contacted directly by the management to provide my feedback. Obviously they are not keen on my feedback or improving the service at the hotel, as till to date (more than a week since my stay), I have yet to be contacted by the hotel through any means. Will I stay there again? Never. Will I ever recommend the hotel to anyone? Never.
Travel tip : Across the lake is a sister hotel - Palace Beach and Spa - which had much better staff and a more pleasant ambience. However, having a "beach" bar at their man-made beach was as good as not having one there - neither is it properly stocked nor is it served well by service staff. Avoid the Mines Mall. Maybe it looked as dead as it did cos of the current economic crisis but when compared to malls that you'd find in the city itself, it is so below par that you might be better off spending the extra time needed to get into the city center to proper malls instead. Entertainment in the area is sorely lacking. So unless for convenience (i.e. a function/event) at the hotel prompting you to stay at this hotel, there are much more value for money stays within the city.
