there's been quite a lot of debate whether this is a 4 or 5 star hotel. in my opinion the truth lies somewhere in the middle. the spacious, luxurious rooms are 5 star, so is the lobby and service. the food, however, is rather poor for such an establishment and the only letdown of this otherwise highly recommended hotel.
the breakfast buffet is immense and varied but of mediocre quality...it's tasty but basically nothing more than cheap hawker stall food, no good cheese, salmon, fish sushi, king prawns...the kind of things you would expect from a 5 star breakfast.
on the other hand the chulan's rates are low and fair for such a great hotel and the location opposite pavilion is excellent.

Remember to bargain with cabbies when you return to hotel. They mark up prices.

new facilities with BAD management

it's a new hotel with very bad management. facilities and location are great, but the management is really terrible, first, the general manager book the table in breakfast area and not let the guests to sit when busy time. the cleaning room never finish their job, always missing something, breakfast is all the same everyday, service during breakfast is bad.but dinner is great,both food and the service during dinner are great. the wifi is terrible,so i bought 3g works with iphone can share with my ipad and laptop, and some guests during breakfast. bad management will ruin the facilities sooner or later, hope the gm will come out of the room and work, not like the stuff said, always stays in the room with his wife in the hotel. generally speaking it's a good hotel. singers in the coffee area during the evening time are great.

overall was a very pleasant stay. perfect location for families; minutes away from major shopping centers and restaurants. hotel staffs are very helpful and friendly. perfect for those who would like to experience a blend of international and local malaysian style interior. we also enjoyed local delights that are served in the hotel restaurant. even the free breakfast that we had was amazing. thumbs up!

love this hotel as it has "unique malaysian" architecture, situated near main shopping areas like pavilion, sg. wang plaza, bukit bintang shopping, and lot 10.
the food we had for breakfast and dinner were sumptuous, and wide-spread.
will stay here again for our next trip.

good breakfast and rooms are clean and spacious. the location is good but traffic jams in surrounding areas. driving is difficult during the jam. good shopping areas in surrounding. unfortunately when we stayed, it was a rainy seasons and one of our rooms were flooded and destroyed our bags as the water came in very fast. hotel management is kind enough to pay compensation and grateful to them.

this hotel is more suited for business travelers. there is hardly any holiday feeling. even during breakfast, we do not see many families enjoying the breakfast but more of businessmen having a quick bite at the restaurant. could not find the element of fun in this hotel.
rooms are nice though, but not of great value due to the price. have stayed hotels of the same standard at a much lower price. service may be slow at times.
do request for a room that are near to the lift. we got a room that was very far from the lift lobby at first and we wanted a change of room. called them for about 4 times in a duration of an hour but no one came to our service. we only managed to change our room the next day. service not very efficient.
breakfast is the same everyday, for travelers who stay more than 2 nights may find it very boring.
room is clean and comfortable
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Next to Pavillion but walking to Pavillion may be a hassle due to the bad traffic in that area
