The Crowne Plaza Riverside in Kuching is a pleasant hotel with a nice location across the street from the Sarawak River. A highrise opposite the hotel blocks a full view, but from my upper floor room I had nice views of the river and villages on the other bank. Staff were efficient and courteous. Easy to walk to most places in the city. I would definately stay there again.

Basic rooms with normal basic facilities in. Rooms are very old and the same goes to the bathrooms.
Not really 5 star besides the price, hotel is just a standard 3 star to my opinion.
- Restaurant Tip : Try to walk out from the hotel for better food choices and for better pricing on local food.

Booked with the conceige to go on the Bako Park trip that was same price as most tour operators if not cheaper.
- Restaurant Tip : If you get desperate MCdonads is about 100 yds away.
Supermarket in in the basement.
Close to local small malls most of which have really cheap food halls.
Convenient

If hotel retrains it's front desk staff and prohibits cooking in the guest rooms, I would have no complaints.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Before arriving in Kuching we arranged for 3 days of tours and highly recommend Borneo Fairyland Travel and Tours http://borneofairyland.tripod.com or email Daisy at bftravel@tm.net.my
There is an Internet Café located behind the hotel which is well-run and very inexpensive.
There is a supermarket in the bottom floor of the shopping center adjacent to the hotel. That has a wide selection of grocery and toiletry, etc. items at good prices.
The circular restaurant diagonally across from the hotel to the left has great food at reasonable prices and overlooks the river.
Weekend market is worth going to. It starts Saturdays at 2:00 and runs all night until Sunday afternoon.
Don’t use the photo processing shop in the Sarawak Plaza shopping center next to the Holiday Inn; they ruined my photos.
Good value large hotel - but lacks color

Good location - close to everything (but then Kuching is not big!).
Try to get a higher floor facing the river - because most of the lower floors are blocked by the Commercial Government building across the road.
Hotel is a big chain hotel and has a lot of commercial travellers - so avoid the morning queues when they all try to check out!
However this means that there are often cheap deals available on the major Internet hotel search engines like Agoda. The hotel website is not very cheap.
- Restaurant Tip : The Japanese buffet at Cafe Majestic is worth trying if you are there on the two nights a week that it is offered. It is pretty comprehensive and very popular (so book) - for RM60, it's great value.

Best buy in its class
Only con is that the view is blocked by an apartment building, otherwise prefect.
- Travel tip : Good value in equal conditions.
