Beautiful layout and location, very helpful staff, good choice of restaurants. Tasteful accommodation, complementary toiletries and drinks in rooms.

Some chalets are semi-detached, which can cause problems if neighbours are noisy.

The Berjaya is a beautiful resort located about a 20 minute drive north of the airport. Accommodation consists of chalets decorated to a high standard. Towels and toiletries are provided. There are also complementary drinks in the rooms (tea, coffee and water) as well as a mini bar where you can purchase additional items. The most expensive chalets are detached and are located over the sea. The other chalets are located up the side of the mountain however the hotel provides a shuttle service for people to carry them to and from their chalet and around the resort. This is free of charge. The only down side of the accommodation is that a lot of the chalets are semi-detached, which can be problematic as the walls are very thin. I had one sleepless night due to noisy neighbours but the staff were very helpful and I think if the problem had persisted they would have been happy to move me to another room had I requested it. Overall the staff are polite, friendly and very helpful. There are several restaurants on the resort serving a variety of food. There is a private beach and swimming pool. Towels are provided. To make the most of a stay in Langkawi it is advisable to hire a car. Car hire is reasonably priced and driving around the island is easy, especially if you are English as they drive on the left!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Be very careful when booking trips. We booked a trip to one of the islands through an agent with the company Coral Island. The agent lied to us about what was included in the price and so we did not get what we were promised. Coral Island company said this happened frequently with agents and yet woukd not take any responsibility for the deception. Tip - book trips through the hotel rather than agents and make sure you get whatever is agreed in writing.

Resturants offered a good menus, the food was excellent and good value for money

Chalet was continously damp and the musty smell never went away in our seven night stay - I think the chalet had not been used for sometime

We really enjoyed our stay and having looked around the Island at other areas I am pleased that we chose this hotel. The use of shuttle bus to and from the lobby/chalet worked well however we still had a steep uphill pathway and 20 odd steps to the chalet so if you have difficulties walking I recommend that you request a chalet either on the flat or where the shuttle takes you to your door.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The free evening or morning eco walk offered by the hotel is a must and other trips with Dev as your guide ensures you enjoy and learn the local area. Give the night markets a miss unless you want to eat local food at a good price.

The pool and wildlife around the hotel.

service was slow, food at the hotel was expensive, and hotel is far from eateries.

I stayed at the hill villas at the Berjaya. Overall, the service was very slow and frustrating, and you have to do everything yourself if you want anything done. In the first room I was allocated, the TV and telephone was faulty. When I asked to change to another room, I had to call reception 5 or 6 times before they would change the room for me. Each time the reception said they would call me back, but they did not. The second room I was given was fine. However, overall, the rooms were a little worn and could do with some renovations. During my stay, when I requested for some plates and cutlery, I was told by reception to call room service. When I called room service, I was told I had to wait for 45mins because they only had one available staff to attend to the request. Finally, I had to go back to the restaurant at the reception area to pick up the items myself. They never delivered it to the room. On the plus side, if you like nature and don't mind a walk, the hill villas are a nice way to connect with nature. I saw monkeys, lizards, and even a flying lemur around my villa. If you prefer the hotel facilities to be more accessible, it would be a good idea to stay at the garden villas. The pluses were that the beach is nice (the hotel staff cleans the beach), and the pool is lovely. Happy hours (5-7pm) at the pool bar is a good deal.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The hotel is located in a rather isolated part of the island. It is very near the Oriental Village and Cable Car. However, during my stay, the cable car was unfortunately shut for maintenance and as a result not many food stalls were open for business. For a greater variety of food (apart from the expensive hotel menu), you have to drive to the Pantai cenang area which takes about 25mins by car. I would recommend hiring a car if you are staying at the Berjaya as it can be difficult to get around otherwise (There are taxis available at the hotel though). For those who choose to drive around, be aware that the local police do frequent 'checks'. Every day during my four day stay at the Berjaya, I saw tourists being stopped by the local police along the stretch of road between Berjaya and the airport. For some reason, they seem to only stop the tourists. Also, when hiring a car from the airport, beware of the scam that the airport car hires run. To get you to rent a car from them, they will tell you they will provide a new car (2009 proton, etc), and when you collect it from the car park, they will tell you that the car has a faulty door, or some other story, and you get an old bomb of a car instead. It's a real shame that we had these unpleasant experiences in what was otherwise a fairly relaxing holiday.

nice pool, spa and massage facilities. Nice view of beach and mountains. Friendly staff, helpful overall. Spare sofa in room can be used as a spare bed (suitable for a child of <12yo). The hotel allows our two children to stay for free.

bath room run-down. Limited options for non-hotel food due hotel location being far from major tourist towns. Very slow respond to room service requests. Facilities for visitors to recycle glass/plastics should be made available.

The resort is run quite well (by Malaysia standard) overall although some of the facilities such as the bath rooms in the chalets should be up-dated. Staff response to request is generally slow and annoying. Visitors staying at this hotel should be aware that Berjaya Beach and Spa resort is very far from major tourist towns and getting food (other than at the VERY expensive/over-priced hotel restaurants) can become problematic without own transport. The pools are kept well, and the spa and massage facilities, although expensive, is worth visiting. Plenty of wildlife to see around the resort (monkeys, lizards, flying lemurs, birds) and good proximity to the cable cars.

Good location, very nice grounds.

Dated rooms and bathrooms, lobby bar has very bad lighting and bad sound. Boring at night. Drinks are so so.

Nice place in general. Regular rooms and bathrooms are dated but clean, food is good specially beach and Thai restaurant. We didn't like breakfast .Nice atmosphere at night, very enjoyable to have food and drinks. Service is good. Resort has a private beach with good sand and a view on the mountains. We enjoyed our stay.

- So Quiet - Room Facilities is well prepared

- Too far away from downtown, cost much on transport - No shops nearby even a 7-11

We stayed at Berjaya for 3 nights, we booked superior chalet. Living in a jungle is very comfortable and quiet; Shuttle service is good and fast; Swimming pool is nice, but the private beach is not beautiful, sand is a little bit rough, sea is not clean, compare with PErhentian, the sea in Langkawi is too disappointed. The location is a problem, too far away from down town, cost much on transport, of course we have another choice that is to rent a car, 100RM for 4 hours.

Anniversary cake and gift in room was EXCELLENT! Price and room standard was above my expectation. Easy to access motorbike rental.

The pool area is far too small for such a big resort. The breakfast buffet is too small. Service response time is poor.

My fiancee and I chose Berjaya for our anniversary and traveled with a couple of friends. We chose the Premier Chalet on Land and were happy to find that they were very close to the beach. The hotel had also prepared a nice chocolate anniversary cake that was in fridge waiting for us. The room was beautiful although it was weird that there was no glas window between the bathroom and main room - just a standard drape. The buggy service to the rooms are great but are not very timely unfortunately so most of the times, it was a lot faster to walk than to wait for them. We ordered pizza by the pool and it took more than 45 minutes to serve it - I agree with other reviews here that the service response time is very poor. Another example of this is the breakfast buffet which was just a mess. You had to wait a long time to be seated, the table wasn't cleared and prepared and the buffet was half empty since they didn't replace the food in a timely manner. I would expect more of a hotel of this standard. We wanted something secluded to be private, but Berjaya is just very far from other areas of the island. We rented scooters conveniently outside the resort to take us around for 35 MYR/day.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Rent scooters just outside the resort and explore the island on your own.

The staff are friendly and show excellent knowledge. There is always a caddy that will drive you around the resort. The beach is not as crowded as in other tourist hotspots.

The buffer breakfast has limited choices and houseflies can be seen flying on some items

We arrive late at the resort due to flight delay. We are supposed to have a welcome drink but the counter is closed after 5pm. We are given a drink voucher instead and can be used during our stay at the resort. The staff show great knowledge when we ask questions and always have a friendly smile on their faces. Food prices in the hotel are slightly on the upside and there are limited choices in the breakfast. The night market in Kuah Town offers a different kind of experience. You can see various type of food available and some of my childhood toys can actually be found there. Renting a car in Langkawi is a good choice. The traffic is light and we save quite a bit compared to hiring taxi. However, do exercise caution in the night as the street lights are not available on some road.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Always check the cable car schedule before booking a trip to Langkawi. It is supposed to be a beautiful place with beautiful scenery. The night market at Kuah Town also offer a different kind of experience

The Premier Villa on "land" was really on water! Great benefit/ The Villa was new, modern, comfortable, quiet and relaxing. The SPa was perfect! Great outdoor jacuzzi! The Panh Thai restaurant was great!Very Authentic. Plenty of water sports offered, or if you just want to laze int he sun/water, you can do that too! Buffet and Beach Restaurant both provided great breakfast. Room service was fast and hot. Right next to the cable car! Convenient car rental on site for 180 RM ! Convenient 15 minute drive from the airport!

None to speak of. The Cable car was closed, but that is at no fault of the hotel, it closes monthly for maintenance...

I booked this hotel at the recommendation of a friend and was assured a great time. This stay totally exceeded my expectations. We rented a car our second day there and proceeded to tour the Island solo, very easily done in under 2hours with stops. The laziness and calm in the island is felt at every stop we made. The Alligator Farm is a little disturbing (with handicapped alligators and a sign saying "buy alligtor skin products to save the alligators") THe craft mall was great, beautful items and a small but interesting museum attached. The staff at the hotel were exceptional, remembering our names and requests and providing us with everything we asked for. This is a hotel that I will be coming back to again and again... Request the premier Villa...it is new and great. I didn't want the "rustic" experience as is had in the older higher level cabins.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : This island is best seen by driving yourself. Car rentals at the hotel from 50 USD/day... great bargain for a new car with and island map...

The staff was very nice and courteous. Very nice scenery. Good food.

Hotel rooms are difficult to walk to and shuttle waits cam be long. The room fixtures are old and there seems to be problems with upkeep.

Location is quiet and scenic, you will want to rent a car. Room looked nice and felt comfortable, although I had to call maintenance daily due to issues (AC, lights, etc.). The shower had very low water pressure and showed its age. Good food in the restaurants and friendly staff. The lounge bar was adequate and the entertainment was lacking in value. Expect long waits for shuttle to and from room.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There are several spots for photo oppurtunities enroute to the hotel. Drive around the island and enjoy the scenery and wildlife.

though all the rooms are quite far away from each other, the shuttle was so convenient to provide the transportation. Rooms are clean, food is good, you do have variety of choices from a few resturants.

Since facilities are not so new anymore, Aircond was not really functioning well and quite noisy. Besides, reservation didn't really specify that breakfast is not included

I would still recommend Berjaya resort for its relaxation and service. I would next time to try the water house, it looked so beautiful and we took lots of photos there...

Nightlife Tip : night life there is anyway quite boring...there was no beach bar.

Good privacy; nice environment; private beach; pretty pool area.

Distance between carpark and lobby, as well as lobby and room; waiting for shuttles at night in the middle of the jungle.

Berjaya is pricey but this place is worth it. Most of the private chalets do not have any sort of beach or water view as they are on the mountainside in the jungle...but that's kinda nice too. It's cosy and even romantic. The lobby is far from the rooms, but the resort offers free shuttles (on call) to transport you around the resort, which is good since the monkeys are quite active in these woods. Room service is quick and the food is nice at the numerous restaurants on the resort. The private beach is clean and the pool area is even better. I'd stay here again.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The resort has a nice location but it is far from "the rest" of Langkawi. You would really do yourself a favor by renting a car to easily get around the island. The best (and legal) way to do so is at the airport or ferry jetty.

Great rooms with balcony. Large bathrooms with bath. Airconditioner good. Turn down service was very nice.

The TV wasn't able to be heard well probably due to reception problems. The two beds we had were only singles.

This is a great resort for relaxing. It is very large and spread out but the shuttle service is very efficient and we only had to wait a few minutes for pick-up. The pool area is terrific with spa pool, waterfall and larger pool with swim-up bar. There are lots of water sports though these all cost. The restaurants are all good with great service and priced from very affordable to slightly more expensive. The staff are very friendly and efficient. It's great seeing plenty of wildlife including spider monkeys, macaques and iguanas!

Nightlife Tip : The nightlife at the resort is probably more suited to families and older couples.

- Excellent service - Pick & Drop facility from the Chalet to the lobby. Max 3 mins - Beau & peaceful location - Love the mountains behind the property, the Premier chalets on water, the beach etc. - Friendly staff - They were warm & welcoming. Forever smiling. Made an effort to help with directions, suggestions etc. - Yummy food - Do try the Salmon at the Beach cafe. Also try out the seafood buffet. Chinese rest - A bit expensive but worth the money. - They would send a small token every evening like cookies, choc, some local sweets etc. A sweet gesture. - Thai rest on the water - Amazing rest with a beau setting - Do check out the sunset.

- Far away from (25 mins) from Pantai Cenang but those interested to stay close to the happening beaches / party scene then i suggest you check out Phuket. - Langkawi is a pefect dest for honeymooners, young couples & families looking for some peace of mind / to relax from the hustle bustle of citylife.

- This was my first visit to Langkawi & i must say that I will definitely make another trip in near future. The Chalet's amidst the rain forest & few on water are a beau setting - Much like a wallpaper. - On my arrival I was upgraded to a Premier Chalet on water & therefore was eligible for breakfast. I had asked for an upgrade during my bookings & they did manage to offer the same. - Besides i never had a problem of any kind - be it service, food, pick & drop etc as mentioned in reviews. - One thing we didn't do was order food in the room since there are so many rest to check out. - Rest are a bit pricey but trust me worth the food & service. - Do try out the crab feeding from the beach cafe - The waiters would show - Good fun. - It is in walking distance from the cable car ride - but they offer a one way drop. - They do have sports activities such as - Tennis, water sports, pool etc. Overall value for money & and a very romantic setting.
