Langkawi Airport
Padang Matsirat / Airport is on the west coast of Langkawi Island. It’s a quiet area with a few hotels and attractions, but most of the local activity centers on the airport. The area has historic appeal for the role it played in a 19th-century invasion by Siam.
Langkawi International Airport operates flights to mainland Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and China. Some of the routes are seasonal or only offered on a charter basis. More than a million passengers use the facility each year, some pausing for a look at the Langkawi Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition. Klinik Kesihatan Padang Matsirat hospital is north of the airport. Accommodation in Padang Matsirat / Airport includes one airport hotel.
Port Langkasuka is west of the airport and operates a regular ferry service to Rebak Island Resort. This island hosts one of the best luxury resorts in Langkawi, and all 390 acres of it are owned by one private company. The ferry takes around 15 minutes to arrive.
Aside from the beach, the main attraction in Padang Matsirat is the Field of Burnt Rice. It was set ablaze in the 19th century to thwart invading Siamese. Burnt rice hulls are still found in the field and on the beach from time to time.
Most of the hotels in Padang Matsirat are on the coast. These are three- and four-star establishments with a few bungalows mixed in. The area is secluded, with few facilities off resort grounds.
