Location Good Breakfast very good

Lack of variety of eating places in the early evening (5-7pm)

We enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. Location near the airport was good but quite a distance from town centre - Kuah. Facilities especially pool area were good. The lack of early evening dining at reasonable prices was a problem for us. We didn't find any external restaurants within close walking distance that were satisfactory.

great value for money - amazing seaview rooms with a terrace / balcony. all very clean.

hotel restaurants a little pricy - 30-60% more than in town

A very good hotel, and given the price, probably one of the best on the island in terms of value for money. Splash out a little and get a sea facing room - definitely worth it for sipping beer and looking at the sunset on the balcony. Quite good location-wise as is close to the main touristy street with restaurants etc (although don't expect much there - it's all quite basic). Hotel restaurants are very good, but you pay more than in town. Once you get bored of the hotel beach, rent a car for 70-80RM a day and explore the beautiful beaches and waterfalls.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : rent a car and explore the north coast. and pick up touristy leaflets in the airport. note that that it's a small island and there isn't any clubbing to speak of etc. nightlife mainly of consists of eating / drinking out.

I was a bit reluctant to book in Pelangi when I was comparing the prices. But I was so happy to have done the right choice for choosing Pelangi. The beach was just 15 steps from our bungalow and it’s the most relaxing beach ever. The staff was extremely polite, professional and helpful. At breakfast, be assured that you will not be disappointed with variety of food selections. Most of the resultants and shops are just a small walk from the resort in case you decided not to eat at the expensive restaurants of the resort. Be prepared to deal with some insects as you are in the middle of a forest.

Restaurant Tip : Try the PIZZA place on the main road. and the Taj Mahal Resturant(Ala'a Aldeen)...Niiiiice

Our stay at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi was an excellent experience. It was our first stop on our honeymoon trip so we were a bit mindful about the place and all of it amenities and services. But to our pleasant surprise, the place was wonderful. All the process from checking-in to checking-out was done extremely smoothly and in a professional manner. Staff at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi was specialized, helpful and really caring. I can not recall any moment of problem or irritation during my 03 night – 04 days stay there. I would highly recommend this place to stay especially for honey-mooners.. One again thanks a lot to all team at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi for making our honeymoon memorable.

nice layout, feeling comfortable , and good looking Malaysia village type

air-condition too old, the cold air blow directly on you face at night. No way to turn it to other side except you turn off , then it would be too hot.

overall good nice layout, the scenery is outstanding, and the facilities are enough. Seven restaurant, two swimming pool, and gym, all water sports. The drawback is only two restaurant opens at lunch time, and the facilies are getting old. the maintenace of room especially the air-condition are falling down. TV reception is not very good. Will not stay in next time.

The swimming pools! Quiet, spacious, location, beach frontage, milkshakes, la bamba burger!

Rooms a little dated, poor watersport equipment, expensive food and drink (compared to restaurants outside), breakfast, reception is very dark.

This resort is almost as old as me and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. I think potential customers should realise that this is not going to be like a stay in a 5 star city hotel! The resort and its grounds are very nice but the rooms are showing their age and I personally feel that they could easily be improved by simply ditching some of the interior wood paneling and refitting a new bathroom. We found the hotel reception staff a little 'abrasive' at the first instance but was served well once we had been directed to the appropriate member of staff. The hotel lobby/reception is fairly impressive if not a little dark. Restaurants on site are not a patch on the Orkid Seafood restaurant down the road. (Leave resort via front entrance, turn right and walk approx 250-300m and its on your right) The menu, staff, food and price are spot on! We ate there most lunchtimes and evenings although made the error of trying Rasa over the road- don't bother. Unfortunately the watersports desk isn't exactly great and I feel this is probably due to demand from the hotels target market... don't think many of the guests we saw wanted to hoon about on jet ski's or have a paddle in a kayak! However, try walking down the beach and you'll find much better equipment at similar prices. I rented a newish Seadoo GTI for 130 RM (30mins) Great fun! Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Pelangi and on Langkawi island, I most definitely recommend renting a motorbike and checking out the whole island and in particular having lunch at the four seasons!

swimming pool with swimming toys for the kids.Spacious resort.ok service. Not crowded nice and calm atmosphare.close to the airport.

Athough close to airport taxi to there very overpriced.the resort is in the middle of nowhere.you need to rent a motobike while taxis to the nearest village cost 20 RM a way.

We stayed in a very spacious room near swimming pool, nice for the kids. Food ok but little too expensive. To closest restaurant outside you need to take a taxi. Food is in the village much cheaper.don't count with the sea, pools are ok enough. Service was friendly.we'd recommend when you'd just stay inside of resort and not moving around while the closest inhabited place is about 5 km.

Excellent Service.

Poor water quality at beach and in pool.

The Pelangi Beach Resort has a wonderful garden with max. 2 storey chalets. The best chalets are directly at the beach front with views on the Andaman Sea. At night you can listen to the waves (provided you switch of the aircon). The service throughout the whole resort is outstanding and as honeymooner we received a bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit basket as a little welcome present. Except the poor water quality of the sea we had a great stay.

Restaurant Tip : Enjoy a sunset dinner at The Lighthouse.

Location, bang on Cenang beach; landscaping within the resort - despite being very close to a main road, well shielded from it, also pools and greenery and other features very thoughtfully designed.Variety and quality of the breakfasts.

The walk to neighbouring resorts and restaurants along the road was blighted by strong sewage smells at frequent intervals along the way.

A positive feature of the Pelangi is its proximity to the airport - you're there within 15 minutes of emerging from the airport. It is also very easy to get taxis - the rank is just our=tside the resort gates. Rooms are well appointed, the air conditioning efficient (essential here!) and they provide complimentary bottles of water (2 per couple per night) and mosquito repellant tiles. We only eat in the Resort a couple of times, as there are good Restaurants much cheaper within a short cab ride (best is Matahari, part of the Sun Resort). The beach is beautiful. We divided our time between three nights in an entry-level room and four in a sea view room. The price differential is significant, but the advantage of being able to walk straight out of your room onto the sand is also great. Service was very friendly. We would certainly consider returning.

Restaurant Tip : Matahari Restaurant, a 10 Ringgit (£2) taxi ride from Pelangi, does great Malay food in very pleasant surroundings (water features, etc) at a great price - meal for 2 inc bottle of wine = c£22

Location.

Tatty, dirty in parts, understaffed and food, at best, mediocre.

was VERY disappointed by this resort. Having read all the resorts and had word of mouth recommendations (albeit from a couple of years ago), I was really excited. And consequently badly disappointed and would not rate it above 3.5 stars. We were there from the 13th-18th of April (2009) and in spite of arriving at 1.15pm, we had to wait 1.5 hours until our rooms were ready. The rooms are wonderfully huge but tatty. At no point did I want to walk barefoot on the carpet. The kettle was dirty and sticky and the toilet had a bad smell coming up from the drains. You cannot work the TV without instruction from the handyman. The rooms were not cleaned until 11am at the earliest and on a couple of occasions not until 3pm. Breakfast was alright but not much different from a home breakfast. We didn't eat much at the hotel because we didn't like the food and it's overpriced but what was particularly irritating was the moment your food was served (and while you were still eating) a waiter would bring you the bill to sign. The beach is gorgeous until the tide comes in and then goes again and then it's filthy. Why do we humans have to muck EVERYTHING up? There is a tractor that goes up and down the beach a couple of times a day with two guys trying to clean up but... That said, the sea and the beach are visually stunning. As was the view from our room. I would not go back to this hotel.

Travel tip : A variety of restaurants outside the hotel. Turn right out of the main gate and it's about a 5 min walk. Also a good one on the beach. Turn left on the beach and it's the first one you get to.

This resort is a paradise, nicely located. Guest Rating: 10
