Reasonably modern, nice beaches, plenty of restaurant choices, great buffet breakfast, very friendly staff, quick service of our requirements with one exception (see below)

INTERNET was a major problem for us - hotel is not up with latest technology so we couldn't use our iPhones without going to the hotel lobby & paying for WiFi; internet cafe off lobby was very unreliable & they will only give you 45 mins free, most of which was often taken up by computer & network glitches. Because we have Apple wireless products we could not use in the room where the plugs are the old dial-up type. None of the staff were particularly technology oriented, so generally couldn't help much. POOL badly needs updating - it is Ok but very old, so we used the beach mostly, though would have been nice to have a modern pool - also there is only one pool, so if your room is a long way away, which many of them are.......

The brochures on Langkawi make it look like a paradise, and the island & beaches are much like that, but the state of the economy must be very poor as a lot of the island's facilities look very old & quite run down eg many shops & sites closed, boarded up, many buildings falling apart. This is not a modern resort island at all & reminded us more of Pacific Islands from 30 yrs ago. That said, if your'e going there make sure you stay at a 5 Star place like the Sheraton (there are a few others). Its facilities were generally quite acceptable & the staff are extremely well trained to be at your beck & call & are always very friendly. We would rate the quality of the Hotel itself as 4.5 stars rather than 5 but our room was closer to what we expect. The spa was excellent, and the massages great.

Restaurant Tip : Wine is very expensive at the hotel restaurants, so pick up your duty free at the airport & have your drinks before or after dinner. The Australian steak was nowhere near the quality we get back home, which is a puzzle as they say the best meat gets exported - maybe we were just unlucky that night. By the way, they didn't have the Wagyu even though it was prominent on the menu. If you want good service at the main restaurant (Feast) look out for staff members Zubeiri & Ayu.

Old furniture

The hotel is good. Its location is good and the view was beautiful and the facilities are very good. The staff was hilpful and friendly and the food and the service were good. the disadvantages were The furniture of the room was old and we found some monkeys in garden of the hotel.

Scenery, views, nature, monkeys; Delicious food; Friendly staff

Slow check-in after a long flight

The food was delicious at Feast, buffet breakfast and dinners had a large selection & good quality. Staff at the restaurant and pool/ bar areas were very friendly and hospitable. Captains Grill also had lovely meals, more expensive than Feast. Saw monkeys, squirrels, lizards everyday amongst the villas. Amazing setting being immersed in nature. Definitely worth paying more to stay in a villa - luxurious bed, large room, and sitting on the terrace with sea view was fantastic. Two ladies on desk were rather rude which gave us a disappointing initial impression of the hotel. However, all other staff we dealt with were very friendly. The manager was welcoming & diplomatic, and kindly agreed to give us free breakfasts. Also, check-in was supposed to be at 3pm, yet we waited for our room to be ready until 4pm. Would love to stay again for a week - 4 days was not enough!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Don't bother with the town's "nightmarkets" if you are going through KL (head to Chinatown - amazing in comparison). There are some very cheap local eateries in the town centre (Kuan) which is 15-20mins away. Most are outdoors, so take your mosquito repellant.. The Ropeway is a 10mins taxi ride from the hotel and worth a trip up if you have the stomach for it. Rather nerve-racking going up to such a massive height, but great views on a clear day.

Fantastic food, and idyllic surroundings

Tour desk

Wonderful stay, really nice resort. Very comfortable villas, spacious and luxurious. Feast restaurant serves delicious buffets with huge selection, and Captain Grill does fabulous steaks. Lovely surroundings, good location being not far from airport and is on a nice beach. Although didn't go into sea due to jellyfish warnings, the pool was a fine substitute. Tour desk didn't have correct information for our diving trip, which meant one in our group didn't come with to do snorkelling when could have. Would recommend to couples or families.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : If you plan to dive or snorkel, I think it's best to organize yourself. Either before you come over internet, or at the port itself as there are little offices lined up in a row with the competing tours - bound to get a good deal this way.

Friendly staff, good facilities

Breakfast was not included in our package. They could have thrown that in as well!

We were made very comfortable as soon as we checked in. The room was very spacious and we were given one of the great ocean view rooms. The staff was good, the service satisfactory. Breakfast, though not included in our package, was good and had quite a good spread. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to everyone and would most likely stay here as and when I come back!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Ease in planning excursions and very accomodating as well!

Rooms, wildlife, beaches & the spice tradder

Location, western food & price

Partial seaview room was lovely inside (block 11), nice layout, didn't look like a business hotel. Private beaches, monkeys in the trees and sometimes on your balcony. The spice trader restaurant where you can sit on the floor was relaxed with a nice atmosphere. However this is for you if you are pretty much happy to stay in the complex as there is nothing outside-no pavements either. The food was mostly western, and that was pretty average and best avoided. The local dishes were nice but expensive compared to outside. 10% is added to everything on the bill. The staff were lovely, but I found the location meant I could have been anywhere. It didn't feel like I was in Asia.I moved to Pantai Cenang after 6 nights, not because of the hotel but the where it was.I liek to go to Asia because it is cheaper than Europe, but I was mainly paying western prices in the Sheraton.

Hotel Feature Tip : Sit in the booths in the spice trader - a bit differnt to the usual.

Unspoiled location, beautiful setting, nice decor, good fitness centre.

Isolated.

The Sheraton is immaculately maintained and located in a beautiful unspoiled setting. The rooms are spacious with large private veranda and tastefully decorated. However, it is quite isolated and you will need your own transport if you want to explore anything beyond the hotel itself. We hired a motorbike but had to walk about half an hour in the heat to find a hire shop. It was in a small village which has a few restaurants and a grocery store which is quite good for supplies. You will need them as the hotel shop and mini bar prices are very high! The property is very hilly (which may make walking difficult if you are not fit) although there is a complimentary buggy service.

Attentive staff. Dinner buffet. Spa. Wildlife. Tranquil Location.

Room was slightly run-down.

We are a young couple who can honestly say that we had a fantastic time at the Sheraton Langkawi resort. The wildlife was definately a highlight for us. We had the "harmony" spa treatment together which was great and was really good value for money. We had the dinner buffet twice during our stay, the food was extremely fresh and a very good variety was available. We enjoyed watching the chef's cook our noodles and seafood. The location is not so far from the airport and a short journey to the likes of the cable car at oriental village and to Harbour Park where there are several restaurants to enjoy a meal.

Restaurant Tip : Harbour Park was a RM18 taxi ride away (less than 10minutes) and you'll find a variety of eateries there and a plesant view of the marina

The rooms!

None

Sheraton Langkawi Resort has got to be the nicest resort you can get! We stayed in one of the partial view rooms which is very big! The bed is very very comfortable! The shower is nice with strong water flow and nice hot water! The toilet has a washing device, its very efficient and really works! The restaurant serves really nice buffet dinner and the Chimes nightclub has a nice band playing every night! its located in a nice quiet location but still close to the airport and only 20 mins from Cenang beach! Highly recommended!!

Beautiful setting in amoungst the rainforest with wildlife everywhere. Large and comfortable rooms. Great for families.

Food was very overpriced at the hotel, for example a Carlsberg at the hotel cost 18RM, if you walk 200m down the road same beer cost 1.8RM.

I would recommend the Sheraton Langkawi to anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing time. It consists of chalets set amongst the rainforest and there is wildlife everywhere. During our stay we saw countless dusky leaf monkeys, macaques, colugos (flying lemurs), monitor lizards, tree sherws, squirrels, hornbills and eagles. The rooms are very spacious. We had a superior room which did not have sea views, but did have a lovely outlook over the gardens from the large deck area. There is a large bedroom area with two double beds, a lounge, tv and desk plus a very large bathroom. The main downside is the cost of food and beverages. I would recommend to anyone staying at the Sheraton to hire a car have meals outside the resort. The combined cost of hiring a car and the food would still be less than the cost of the food at the Sheraton. Taxis are fairly expensive (compared to the rest of Malaysia) and hirign a car gives you the freedom to do what you want with your time. The pool area was fairly small but there was alawys plenty of lounges and never very many people in the pool at once. There was a small kids pool which was a great depth for my 4 year old, it meant he could swim when we felt like relaxing. Overall I would definately recommend the Sheraton, especially to young families.

Restaurant Tip : Hire a car and drive to Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah for some of your meals. Takes between 15-20min. There is a great Malay rstaurant called Matahari Malay at Pantai Tengah. Set in beautiful gardens. We had a set menu of 12 dishes it cost 69RM for to and it was delicious, a great night out.

wildlife

location, some rude staff

It was great to be surrounded by monkeys, flying lemurs, and other animals. The room was nice. Some of the staff were quite arrogant, and the menu did not offer any decent vegetarian options and they were not flexible enough to cater for vegetarians or children (eg would not do nachos without beef etc). The beds are not actually queen sized. No decent beach if you are a beach lover.

The Sheraton Langkawi is a wonderful holiday destination. From check -in (served with a welcome drink) to check-out with a smile, our whole stay was superb. The pool is beautifully maintained and the pool bar is exceptional, both in cleanliness and service. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and make all of the guests really feel at home.

No weaknesses - we were only a little disappointed that there weren't so many monkeys around the gardens of the hotel as in previous visits.

Our 2 week stay at the Sheraton Langkawi was as good as our first holiday two years ago. The staff, services and facilities are all excellent and wonderfully maintained. The Kid's Club is great for children of all ages but our 5 year old especially enjoyed the afternoon activities with the friendly girls. A birthday celebration was accommodated well with a complimentary chocolate mudcake (delicious) at no extra trouble. The rooms are kept scrupulously clean and are serviced at times to suit your daily activities. The room service was so prompt that you just have time to walk from the phone to the door to collect it! This was our second visit to the Sheraton Langkawi and we returned to the island because of the service and great facilities.

Restaurant Tip : Restaurants are plentiful on Langkawi but we returned twice to "Sheela's". This is a beautiful garden restaurant on the road outside Cenang Beach. Great food, service and good prices too.
