Great location, good views, good facilities

Cost

Really nice Hotel. rooms were spacous and comfortable. The staff were helpful and courtious. Great little cafe in the lobby. Would recommend dinner in the Nonyia restaurant, it had a fantastic choice of dishes and the menu included a history of many of the dishes and a glimpse into this Malaysian subculture. The cost of the stay was high compared to other hotels of simular class in our trip around Malaysia (especially because it didn't include breakfast) but I would still recommend it.

Restaurant Tip : The Hotel Nonyia restaurant

My second stay in this hotel, offer reasonable rates, good location, shopping centre within walking distance, food centre also nearby, sightseeings also within walking distance, Jordan street night market full of live, must visit not to miss. September is the good time to visit malaca, the weather is not so hot.

Good location, close to eating places and shopping. The room is reasonably big and hopefully it will look more modern once the renovation is over.

Nothing much except that it is also close to some temples and we were woken up early in the morning by the drums from the temple.

Equatorial Hotel has always been our favourite place to stay when we visit Malacca. We like the spacious room and good views from the higher floor. Front desk staff were polite and our check-in and out were done very quickly. The gym is small but the equipment is in good working condition. The only complaint we have is that it is too close to temples and the noise on early Saturday and Sunday mornings were quite irritating.

Good location

A little run-down time to upgrade

I have stay in this hotel before sometimes back, no much different like before. Although the hotel is old but has maintian it cleanliness but I think it time to do some repair and upgrading. The staff is still the same very helpful and friendly, check in is smooth and fast. Of course the location is the plus for us to chose to stay, nothing bad to say so far.

-Was given nice big bedroom on the 14th floor, which my wife and 2 yrs old daughter were absolutely delighted. -The service at the counter during check-in and check-out was impeccable, efficient and polite. Considering it is the Raya holiday peak period. -Closeby to shopping areas and everywhere else.

-swimming pool is a bit small. -small window.

I will definitely recommend this place to others and will definitely be coming back again the next time I visit Malacca. My trip this time was a bit of a rush as I am staying for only 1 night. Would propose at least 2 - 3 nights.

Location. Great price with Agoda.

Bathrooms. Service. Bedsheets

Smack in the centre of Malacca. Very convenient and accessible to all of the city's must-see attractions. The rooms were comfortable and nice. The bathrooms however are small and a little worse for wear; i guess a makeover is in order there. The service was a little unsmiling but, still, i guess, efficient enough. The TV was also oldish; about time they installed some flat screens. The bedsheets were also musty and the duvet stained (tea, i think). But overall, we stayed a night and we really found it more than adequate for what we paid.

Swimming Pool and Location

The rooms are old and strong smoking smell.

Overall, we are satisfied with the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful with the exception of one incident that we are stopped from entering the swimming pool as it was raining. The room with king size bed is big and the room with twin bed is small. Time for the hotel to consider refurnishment.

Near shopping malls

old balcony's doors

We used to stay the delux room for the passed a few years, this was our 2nd time to book the Equator Club. It was great! Experience yourself, big room and good view with two balconies. Walking distance to Jonker St if you don't mind the hot weather. Do catch a movie at Tetaram Pelawan, it's cheap. Half price for children. They are upgrading the rooms now. Hope that the balconies' doors will change, cos' when it rains heavily the doors make "scary bangs" due to the wind. ~_~!!

Restaurant Tip : There is this Home-cooked Peranakan restaurant opposite our hotel is yummy. Banyan at 154, Taman Melaka Raya

Swimming pool

The hotel residential areas in general require fairly extensive renovations - the carpets were very stained the walls had peeling wallpaper - air conditioning systems were noisy and needed attention before they could funtion properly. On one occasion dripping water onto the carpet below. Outside noise was also a problem.

The reception areas seemed were well kept and the staff were friendly and efficient. However, when we went to our rooms we were disappointed with the overall condition of the room and bathroom. The airconditioners were not in operation when we arrived at our room which caused an unpleasant odour, when we tried to operate the airconditioner we needed the assistance of maintenance man because they were faulty.

Travel tip : Try the trishaw tour for an hour the drivers are pretty knowledgable and very friendly - a good value for money tour compared to other tours on offer

Breakfast selection, no smoking areas

We enjoyed our second time at the Equatorial Malacca, because we knew what to expect. The breakfast buffet has gotten better, but is still a far cry from other Equatorial outlets, and there are still no smoking sections in the restaurants. An important issue to consider is that if you stay in one of the club rooms facing the Carrefour complex accross the road, try to get a high floor, because in the lower floors you'll hear incoming trucks making deliveries frequently throughout the night. Being accross the road from Carrefour has also its advantages. It is part of a complex that backs onto the largest shopping area in Malakka. And many ofthe sights are in walking distance. Also positive are the dishes available from room service. They are more reasonably priced than in many other hotels and certainly very well prepared and presented.

Shopping Tip : Malacca'slargest shopping area is just behind the Carrefour accross the road.

Conveniently located, within walking distance of most tourist sights and food stalls. It was the final destination of the bus from Singapore, which helps. Room was comfortable and food generally good.

Some of the reception staff were clueless and one even downright rude. Had no initiative whatsoever. A relative had left a message the day before to meet for lunch the following day, and it was relayed to us. Arrived at around 12pm, given the keys to the room and room wasn't ready. Call reception but was told to wait. Finally had to complain before it was done - at 2pm. Since room was paid for directly to Agoda, we tried making a phone call within Malacca and was told that we had to deposit M$300. Negotiated it down to M$150, but still had to call down to remind them to connect the line.

Overall, not a good hotel for those with debit cards as they don't accept them outright. It is a nightmare for the elderly as they are not extended any assistance. A little disappointing.

Near major shopping mall, Walking distance to historic grounds, Clean rooms, great views too

Staffs were too overwhelming over heavy crowd at check in counters... Waiting time can be long. Suggest express check out system instead.

First time staying in this hotel after reading so many reviews on it. Frankly the stay was pleasant and hassle free. Like to morning walk to Jonker street, many eateris around, and enjoy the shopping across the street. Good Thai massages there too, a must try to ease the muscle after all the walking...

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Take a walk to the nearby historic places, interesting and worth the walk there

City Centre - close to the 2 major shopping areas

The rooms are tired and old, time for some revamp

I was staying at the Equatorial Club. The hotel accord to my request for a sea-facing, high level suite. However, the rooms are a little tired and some of the furnitures (eg. chair)needs to be replaced though. The Club comes with most of the amenities and i was very suprised with a plate of fruit amenity during turn-down. That is very thoughtful of the hotel.

Shopping Tip : Near the Mahkotah Plaza. Great shopping area!

Wonderful pool area

dirty carpets

The Equatorial is a great hotel - we opted for the "equatorial club" and had a lovely large room. Bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom huge. Superb food and service in the restaurant with a fabulous breakfast buffet included - great location - within walking distance to everything!

None

More than five times staying this hotel. But this is the first time stayed in Equatorial Club. It was wonderful to stay there. Good view, good room, good SERVICE, free flow coffee and tea, late check out time. Breakfast was good, but don't know why now a days they don't serve roti chenai.

Restaurant Tip : Nearby nonya food is good and cheap.
