Position - easy stroll to historical landmarks Smelly room with rotting woodwork, leaking taps, awful smelly worn carpet, centralair-conditioning too cold, not adjusting effectively This hotel is only for when other hotels are all full, it is that worn out and off-putting. Avoid weekends if possible when prices are higher because town receives numerous deep-pocketed tourists from nearby Singapore

The cleaning staff were nice, so nice in fact they should be rewarded with the job of receptionist. Very unfriendly hotel staff. Disinterested and unhelpful. Untidy old design. Faulty The hotel looked like a nice place to stay, but like your mumma always tells you, don't judge a book by its cover.
The reception staff, which i find the most important element of the process, were very unfriendly, didn't greet us upon arrival, and stared at us with a friend at the counter until i said "could we check in?".
Once you got the guy at the reception involved with your booking he was alright I guess, but customer service definately wasn't down his alley.
The TV didn't work, the vision four channels weren't working and upon request to get them fixed I was told "I'll ring you back later".
Kettle was broken (which we use to boil our drinking water).
Breakfast was alright

Room and amenities within the room are clean and comfortable. Service staff are generally helpful. Within walking distance (reasonable distance) to Jonker Walk and eating places. 1 Door, bathroom and furniture need new coat of paint - perhaps housekeeping staff can highlight defective/malfunctioning accessories (e.g. toilet cistern, taps, light control, TV, etc.,) to maintenance crew for follow-up via feedback forms.
2. Cooked food at breakfast were COLD as the flames were out. With some simple maintenance effort and fresh coat of paint plus some additional improvements (e.g. hot food), Hotel Orkid can upgrade itself to the next level.
Staff can also be trained to greet guests (they tend to smile but we take it that they do not wish to be intrusive or lack language skill(?)
