Top on the list will be convenient location. The hotel also has decent amenities and a good spread for breakfast.
If there's any it has got to be the limited TV channels.
We had an enjoyable stay. For a family of four with 2 children, the room at the main wing is spacious and is just above the lobby. For your shopping needs just walk across to Mahkota Parade or Dataran Merdeka.
Hotel Feature Tip : Highly recommend that you book rooms at the Mahkota Floor (main wing) when staying at Mahkota. The condition is very much better than the apartment units.

Open Carpark beside hotel room
Dirty Yellow Tap Water
Dirty carpets
Spoilt Cot
Hazardous crossing to get to shopping centre across road
After reading reviews, we thought, hey..how bad could it be? the mahkota parade shopping centre is right opposite it so we can just go there and shop and just return to hotel afterwards right? WRONG!!! there is NO pedestrian crossing/traffic light for you to go over to mahkota parade shopping centre. My elderly mom & dad and us with a baby & pram had to scramble for our life across a super busy street leading to an expressway! and Malaccan drivers are horrible speedsters! funny how non-chalant the hotel workers were abt the crossing..oh..just cross the road..Also, the tap water/bathroom water was YELLOW! we stayed at the 2 bedroom suite, dirty carpets, rusty kitchen tops and were told that the water has to be left running for 10 minutes to clear the YELLOW sediment away..and we had to do this each time we needed water!! We ended up buying bottles of mineral water to brush our teeth and clean our baby..OH GOSH! oh yes...last thing, we booked via AGODA so we had a voucher but needed and extra bed & a crib. The crib they gave us was SPOILT! It had a broken ledge. They gave us another one ALSO SPOILT! I give up!And the receptionist insisted I paid for the extra bed there and then and not at the end of the stay, which is normally when we settle all extra charges..I found it wierd after which she said..ok then..never mind..i'll just swipe your card first to put the balance aside...FINE LAH! whatever!! please please please stay away from this hotel!!

furniture needs upgrading, cleanliness to be improved
should be advised our wing number before arrival as it would make parking easier. The hotel has 8 wings so we had to guess which wing we were assigned. tough luck we picked the opposite end of the hotel. Furniture in rooms needs to be upgraded, bathrooms not very well maintined, could see black markings on the tiles. Our room had a kitchen stove but there was a big sign that said we could not use it.

walking distance to Mahkota Parade shopping center; easy access to swimming pools located in the middle of all apartments; a miniature golf course for young children.
the room toilet seems to be a bit small.
Melaka is well known for its historical value and the visit to Melaka town was an exciting experience. During my visit, it was a weekend, plus a local public holiday. The volume of hotel guess was huge but the hotel managed it well. Upon check in we had a walk around the hotel and the facilities provided gave us an exclusive experience of a club house. Shopping was convenient at nearby 50 meter walking distance to Mahkota Parade and Dataran Merdeka. Overall we would rate it as an excellent holiday destination.

Hotel located within walking distance to old city area
Hotel is very large - long way between some rooms and reception, and car parking spaces are insufficient
The Mahkota is a very large hotel, and was quite crowded during our stay - and it can be difficult to find a car park. The rooms need refurbishing as they are certainly showing their age - airconditioning barely working, very noisy just outside the room. Malacca has more to offer than we covered in our overnight stay - but we will look elsewhere next time.

The staff were the most polite and helpful.
The breakfast was also the best.
We arrived at the Mahkota Hotel tired and sweaty. The gentleman who greeted us was most polite and immediately called for a porter to put our bags on a trolley. So far we'd been traveling on a budget so this was a treat. We were given a room with a sea view, and what a view it was. From our spacious 6th floor room we could see right across the straights of Melacca.
All in all a wonderful stay.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Make sure you spend a couple of days wandering around the town. Take a trip in the viewing tower.

Please cross the road to the shopping mall with care. You can use the traffic light but its about 200 meter away. Check and make sure that all the babycot's screws are secured tightly. Some screws were found to be loose. High bar for the babycot is not available so you have to face the low bar against the wall to make sure that your child does not fall over.

I will recommend staying at Mahkota Hotel. It was peak season, yet the staff were very helpful and efficient. I commend Mr Zul at Reservations and Mr Andrew at the Front Office.

Not value for money. But breakfast was quite good.
Travel tip : Cheap seafood and massage can be found around Portuguese settlement. One way traffic is the norm here, need to get a detailed map to get around.

Travel tip : Should check out Hotel Equatorial or Holiday Inn which are excellent, located near the Makhota Plaza and much newer.
