A hotel in the Old District of Malacca and close to the river and restaurants. Easy walk to tourist attractions, the Old Fort etc. This is a quaint Historic Building with a great atmosphere. The staff gave excellent service and were helpful giving out maps and answering tourist questions. An ideal Hotel for the History buff and ideal for Seniors not wanting stairs.
Travel tip : Be prepared to walk to attractions

Authentic Peranakan furnishing, wonderful ambience, accesible location, friendly and accomodating staff.
This is a boutique hotel that stays true to the Peranakan heritage and gives you a very warm welcome to Melaka, which many regard as the home for many Babas and Nonyas. Coupled with very friendly and accomodating staff, I was most impressed the moment I stepped into this Peranakan treasure. Puri Hotel Malacca is also great value for money and I'll definitely reside there again when I visit Malacca again in the very near future!

Location, ambiance, helpful staff.
Random time for room cleans. need shelf in bathroom to store things away from the small sink.
Great location and ambiance. Three floors with no lifts so if you don't like climbing stairs go low! We had a deluxe room with plenty of space and usual amenities. bathroom was big but no real place to put cosmetics, shaving gear etc. main complaint was the random servicing time for the room. We could be out all day and come back to as we left it or they would arrive early in the morning. Apart from that the stay was great. Well recommended for those who like staying in 'historical hotels'

The hotel is very centrally located. Its decor is very pleasing and its breakfasts are quite varied.
The service leaves a bit to be desired, as we had to request a taxi on 3 occasions, since the bellmen gave our cab away to 3 people, who were behind us in line. After waiting for over an hour for the hotel's cab to pick us up, we simply went and found our own cab.
Although this hotel is very centrally located, and the staff is very generous with letting one use the internet for more than an hour's time, and although the courtyard design is quite pleasing, the failure of the staff to properly arrange for taxis and in allowing other party's to take taxis that were ordered for us, caused us to leave the hotel feeling quite dissatisfied, particularly since we waited for over an hour to get a cab, and even then we had to snag our own cab, as we gave up hope that the cab the hotel ordered would ever show up.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The Heritage Trail is a great trail that is within easy walking distance from the hotel. It includes several historical sites that are well worth the money and time to visit.

Good comfortable rooms with classic furniture. Reasonable food in main courtyard restaurant.
Some bathrooms a bit small. No view from bedrooms other than of the courtyard. Breakfast food only so-so though reasonable range.
A reasonable stay in the Hotel Puri. My wife and our friends enjoyed the classic appearance of the hotel more than I did but the rooms were certainly pleasant enough being of a good size with good aircon though the furniture was a bit heavy for my taste. Our bathroom was quite cramped though our friends bathroom in the next room was nearly twice the size of ours so they were happy. The hotel is in a converted merchants mansion and thus the layout is very erratic but the advantage of the old building was that it was generally nice and reasonably cool. There were some nice antiques around the hotel which added to its attraction. Watch your step though as you walk around the hotel as there are many small changes in levels. Breakfast was served in a nice airy room and was perfectly reasonable and eatable though not so flavoursome as I would have liked. The courtyard restaurant though had quite good food and our meal there proved to be one of the better ones we had in Melaka. Staff on the whole were fairly friendly. Beware though in offloading your luggage from the taxi at the hotel as the street is narrow and there is only just enough space for other cars (but not lorries) to get around the stopped taxi. Hotel was somewhat pricey for Malaysia, though not too bad for Melaka.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Being a small town Melaka was easy to walk around but got very crowded indeed at weekends with cars and pedestrians fighting it out for the limited available space. Personally I found Melaka very touristy and definitely over-rated though my wife and friends enjoyed it far more than I did. I found probably the best thing to do was the hour or so boat trip down the river.

Modern equipment in a traditional environment.
KL's great boulevards and huge skyscrapers are quickly forgotten when wandering through the streets of old Melaka. Traffic is slow, the atmosphere is calm, it's another world.
Hote PURI is located in a narrow street parallel to the main historic street which houses a number of small but interesting shops. To go there it's easy, one just have to turn the corner. On Friday and Saturday nights that street turns into a colourful evening market.
Entering the hotel is like penetrating a previous century wealthy merchant's mansion. The genuine structure of the house still exists and this gives an old fashioned but warm impression.
As we arrived quite early we left our luggage at the reception (where we had a friendly welcome) and found it in our room when we returned after lunch.
We took the Junior Suite which, as we discovered it, is a mezzanine type room. At the entrance level you find an open bath area and a couple of arm chairs forming a small sitting room. Also there was a mini-bar with complementary cold water. Bed and TV are at the upper level. Thus this is a combination of modern design and old structures. Very cosy even if the stairs are rather steep !
Having been walking around the whole afternoon (Christ Church, boat museum, Cheng Ho museum, ...) we felt tired and decided to have dinner under the magnificent trees of the hotel's garden.
We had a very nice evening attended by a friendly waitress full of humour and who obviously liked her job.
We couldn't stay more than one night but we enjoyed every minute. Each one was worth the penny or cent - sorry, ringgit - we had to pay for it.
By the way, I forgot to mention the hotel's museum which is certainly worth visiting.
Restaurant Tip : Nancy's Kitchen just around the corner !

Check out the swiftlets in the room behind the reception. There used to be more (practically the whole perimeter of the ceiling was lined with swiftlets), so view them before they totally disappear.
Restaurant Tip : Great food can be found along the same street where the hotel is located. Just a few doors down is Coconut House which sells great woodfire pizza. Then further down, there is a stall that sells terrific "ohr luak". And if you venture beyond that, yummy mutton soup awaits.
