Location was good, close to all the eating places and pubs. Staff very helpful.

no seating area in foyer.

Stayed for 2 nights. The location of the hotel was perfect as it was close to lots of eating places and pubs. The staff were friendly and helpful. However I found the buffet breakfast to be pretty average with limited choice. There was also no seating area in the foyer. As we drove to the hotel, it was annoying to have to approach the staff for a parking voucher each time we went out.

Nightlife Tip : Lots of pubs next to the hotel and there was a hawker centre close by.

excellent location, good breakfast, nice view.

some noise from the street in the evening.

We stayed in Bayview Hotel for two nights. We booked a Deluxe-Room with seaview. The room had enough space, furniture was good, only the carpet was a bit old. Bathroom and bedsheets were clean. Location is perfect to explore Georgetown. Chinatown and Little India are in walking distance. Most busy Bar-street is just around the corner. From the higher floors you have a nice view. Breakfast serves a good variety and is very fresh as breakfast room seems to be busy from 6:30 to 10:30 am.

Location, Breakfast!!

Bathroom was a little old

This hotel is in a nice location in Georgetown, fairly close to the water and accessible to the town. Reception was competent and fairly friendly, and the rooms were fine, although the bathtub was a little difficult to get in and out of. We enjoyed the breakfast at this hotel, particularly the Roti Canai made fresh in front of you.

Restaurant Tip : Red Garden Food Paradise and Night Market half a block away was really good.

Cheap fare, friendly staffs. Guest Rating: 6.3

The staffs at the concierge area are extremely friendly and helpful. That made me feel so welcome and I did enjoy my travel in Penang.

It was a peak season when I was there, so the jr suite room was ready when I reached there. It was a little unusual, but understandable. Because it was really busy. Overall was ok, except that some of the rooms have funny smells and the room was really old.

Except for the poor maintenance room, overall was really good. The friendly and helpful staffs, really skillful traditional thai massages, and it was really convenient to travel around.

Restaurant Tip : Could try the Bak Kuh Teh in Greenland, it was quite good.

It's ok. Guest Rating: 5.7

long walking distance to places of interest for family with young children

Stayed there for two nights on 26-27 dec. It's quite a alright hotel but guess it's over priced during festive season. Anyway if you are a pub-lover, it's a fantastic place. It's also walking distance to another happening places near cititel. I was with my husband and a 3-year old... definitely it's not a perfect hotel for me as it takes quite a long walk to the places of interest. generally it is a 3-4 stars hotel.

Good location, close enough to all the action. Good food, good service, friendly staff, knowledgeable and helpful..

They seem to skrimp on towels and we only got 2 big bath towels, no face cloths no hand towels.

We liked the ambience of this hotel and the helpful staff. It is nicely located in a fairly quiet section of town away from all the action yet close enough to walk to all the action. The breakfasts were splendid as our tight pants can bear witness. Right across the street are some historic buildings, well actually, they are all over Georgetown and easily reached. The ocean is just to the left of the hotel and you can walk along the waterfront and enjoy the cooling breezes and an ice cream cone, which we should not have indulged in.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : On the waterfront, where you catch the ferry, you can also get a local bus to take you to beach towns (anywhere for that matter) and the fares are very cheap. By the way, the ferry ride to the mainland is free, simply fascinating, in New Zealand they would charge you 50 NZ dollars.

Close to the sights, beautiful interior

Lower standard than we thought. Crappy breakfast.

This hotel is not a four star hotel, but rather a three star. It was not super clean, but good enough. I would not want to stay here for long, but it was okay for one night.

The hotel has very large rooms that are clean, fresh and nicely decorated. The 'cable TV' could do with some work as 12 channels, only four of which are english speaking (including ESPN and BBC World) is quite poor in today's modern age! The bathroom was clean with a good shower. The reception area is too small and so you can spen a while waiting to speak to a receptionist. There are a number of Concierge around but they are usually very busy. The Lobby Bar could do with some modernising but in general it is a clean and friendly hotel in a good location.

The breakfast area is too small. The buffet breakfast is slightly above average and having to pay RM9.00 for fresh coffe is ridiculous! The pool is to small for the amount of children that use it and the gym could use some updating. Fairly small 'Con's' i know but i am being honest. Would i recommend it, yes, but only if you have to go to Georgetown. There are much nicer parts of Penang you can choose!

The hotel is well located with well appointed bedrooms. The staff that i dealt with were very friendly and helpful. There are a few area's of the hotel that need some updating and re-organising (please see my Pro's and Con's above). I would recommend this hotel but only if you have to stay in Georgetown as Penang has many more beautiful area's for visitors to stay. Hotel.....Good Bedroom...Excellent Staff.....Excellent Food......Average Pool......Average Location..Good I wish anybody well who stay's at the Bayview. I have stayed at several Bayview hotels around the world and this is one of the nicest.

Restaurant Tip : Go for breakfast early or late as between 8.30am and 9.30am it is very busy and can be very annoying. Don't bother paying RM9.00 for a 'Freshly Brewed Coffee' as the coffee from the hot tank is just as good! Enjoy!!

Clean, good choice of dining, lovely big rooms.

A bit impersonal, as these places can be.

This hotel was not cheap, but provided all the benefits of a 4 star hotel - nice clean rooms, which were very large with good bathrooms. There was a good choice of dining - the lunchtime buffet was particularly good value, and the staff were generally helpful. Well situated very close to lovely old Chinese house - well worth a visit.

close to museiums and center of the town

not good room service and room condition is fair but not good

we checked in and the hotel location was fine. there is another hotel called Bayview Resort and taxi drivers got confused between the two. the reception was normal. the room view was very nice and we enjoyed it. the only thing is that I think the rooms need to be modified because they miss the finishing touch.

Restaurant Tip : the hotel has a very nice restaurant called The Revolving Restaurant. it rolls around and you can see the entire city from it. the open dinner buffet was excellent and reasonably for 60 RM.

Decor could be updated

Well located hotel in the city center. Nice lobby and the room was very large as was the bathroom. Whilst very clean and tidy the room and the hotel in general could do with a bit of updating. The breakfast was OK but nothing great get there early before it runs out!! good value for the money and penang is a great place

Hotel Feature Tip : Get an umbrella from the concierge

Free internet in lobby. Nice revolving restaurant on 16th floor at reasonable prices, (for hotels that is). Friendly staff.

Hotel undergoing refurbishment not a major problem but some rooms tatty. Very small pool, and no cushions on loungers, not enough lifts.

On our arrival at the hotel, we were advised that the deluxe room with double bed, booked, was unavailable for that day, and would we accept a lesser room for the night and move the next day. Having looked at the hotel when we last visited Penang in 2004 we agreed and were shown to one of the rooms still waiting to be refurbished, the room was in a very tired state with dirty carpets and tatty wallpaper, painted furniture and not at all pleasant. I complained to the front desk and a refurbished room was found for us, which was exactly the opposite of the first room, large clean and airy, and nicely furnished. The rest of the stay (1 week) was pleasant and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and was pretty standard for Asian hotels with good variety and plenty of food. A nice touch was on checkout, as we were flying back to Kuala Lumpur and on to the UK from Penang, our flight was at 1730 which meant being at the airport from 1530, I explained this to reception and asked what the latest time for checkout was, and was informed that a late checkout at 1300 would be acceptable, meaning we had time to go for lunch, albeit an early one, get back and shower, and then only have to kill a couple of hours in the lobby before heading off to the airport. Overall apart from the initial disappointment with the first room and the small pool, I cannot complain too much, the cost was about right for the hotel. My ratings are based on the second room, and would be less for value and comfort, had we been in the first room for the duration.

Restaurant Tip : If you like curry, just round the corner from the hotel is a large Indian eating establishment, (catering for locals) which is open 24 hours a day and opens onto the street, we had a few meals there, which were delicious, (we do like curry) and including a couple of coke max ran in at around 25 RM for the two of us.

excellent location for culture and history.

some breakfast items were lacking.

The Bayview Hotel Georgetown is great hotel because of it's location, staff and amenities. Our room was spacious and very clean. Upon our arrival, there was a slight mix up with the bed arrangements which was attended to immediately. Service was always attentive and friendly from check in to departure. We enjoyed the in house lounge that provided exceptional entertainment. Breakfast was overall pretty good but the baked goods could do with some improvement. The made to order omelets and rotis were tasty. We would recommend the Bayview to friends and family!!

Restaurant Tip : We often went to the Red Garden Night Market to experience the inexpensive food court and lively entertainment. Great for a night out of fun!!!
