On our arrival at the hotel, we were advised that the deluxe room with double bed, booked, was unavailable for that day, and would we accept a lesser room for the night and move the next day. Having looked at the hotel when we last visited Penang in 2004 we agreed and were shown to one of the rooms still waiting to be refurbished, the room was in a very tired state with dirty carpets and tatty wallpaper, painted furniture and not at all pleasant. I complained to the front desk and a refurbished room was found for us, which was exactly the opposite of the first room, large clean and airy, and nicely furnished. The rest of the stay (1 week) was pleasant and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and was pretty standard for Asian hotels with good variety and plenty of food. A nice touch was on checkout, as we were flying back to Kuala Lumpur and on to the UK from Penang, our flight was at 1730 which meant being at the airport from 1530, I explained this to reception and asked what the latest time for checkout was, and was informed that a late checkout at 1300 would be acceptable, meaning we had time to go for lunch, albeit an early one, get back and shower, and then only have to kill a couple of hours in the lobby before heading off to the airport. Overall apart from the initial disappointment with the first room and the small pool, I cannot complain too much, the cost was about right for the hotel. My ratings are based on the second room, and would be less for value and comfort, had we been in the first room for the duration.

Free internet in lobby. Nice revolving restaurant on 16th floor at reasonable prices, (for hotels that is). Friendly staff.

Hotel undergoing refurbishment not a major problem but some rooms tatty. Very small pool, and no cushions on loungers, not enough lifts.

  • Restaurant Tip : If you like curry, just round the corner from the hotel is a large Indian eating establishment, (catering for locals) which is open 24 hours a day and opens onto the street, we had a few meals there, which were delicious, (we do like curry) and including a couple of coke max ran in at around 25 RM for the two of us.

The Baiview hotel is situated right in the middle of Georgetown in Penang, right opposite the famous E&O. While you are staying there, you can go anywhere by foot or take a trickshah, there is always few waiting outside. when I was there, it was the 10th anniversary of the hotel, but it looks older, it will need a little bit of TLC, to be a very good place to stay. foe example the lifts look very old and always making funny noises when you take them. except for this all the staff is very friendly and efficient, what make your stay very enjoyable. there are two very good bands on site playing every night. One, in the lobby and one in the basement. No need to go out to go out! The modo of the Hotel is something like "the hotel where customers become friends" and it is true. The room are very spacious. The Deluxe are overloking the sea, but take a high floor so you can enjoy the view on the E&O and the sea at the back. this is a very goog value for money hotel.

very good location very good staff nice music bands, specially the Sugarbeat

old lifts RM20 a day for internet

  • Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Can go to most of the nice places in Georgetown by foot

Pleasant look from the hotel lobby and the business looks good too, I think a lot of people got cheated by the outlook of this hotel, the breakfast is normal, not as much as I read from the reviews of others...breakfast not so good honestly. Hotel hydro majestic breakfast is very very good!!! I don't think my family and me will ever want to come back to this hotel again...sorry to say this, if you want a comfortable place to sleep and rest definitely not this one.

Is near to the food store and not far from all places in the town.

The Indian lady reception is very rude! She forced me to accept the single bed room, I booked for a double! No choice but to sleep so squeeze..with my hubby, the room is not that clean as I thought.

In my view the Hotel offers good value for money. It looks impressive from outside, the reception area is nice and room corridors are quiet. Our room was clean and everything worked well. Staff were pleasant and the pool/gym areas were adequate for a mini work-out and relaxing for an hour. Breakfast was the only real let-down though the basic essentials were there. Would certainly stay again at the Bayview and can recommend it as a reasonable 3* place to stay

Location, reception area with fast free internet.

Breakfast only adequate

  • Restaurant Tip : Many good well-priced places to eat nearby.

Friendly staff, always happy to help out. We try and stay in the Junior suite on the higher floor, nice layout and clean. When we're not in the junior suite, the other rooms tend to be a bit worn and tired. The bar area is again a bit tired, but the entertainment is good and again the staff very friendly. The pool area is compact, but in good condition and a nice place to chillout.

Reasonable price.

A bit worn and tired in parts.

This was a very nice place to stay in Penang. We had been staying in hostels and budget hotels so this place was like a palace for us! The pool is great and the outdoor heated spa lovely, though very quiet and not much atmosphere at the pool area! The revolving restaurant is worth going to. Breakfast is excellent, plenty of choice for all! Its near eveything in georgetown but be prepared for an hour and a half bus ride to the beach- but worth it. I would stay again

Swimming Pool Spa Pool Good amemities Large Rooms Good Breakfast

Not near a beach, despite the Bayview!

  • Restaurant Tip : Try the indian on Penang Street, very good value for money

The king size room has a sea view, it's great. The room is big enough and very clean for staying, and the breakfast is good. In Penang the price for a 4 star hotel is reasonable. If you wanna a quiet area in Georgetown, it's the ideal choice with a low price.

Breakfast is nice, and the hotel is clean.

somewhat far to the bus terminal.
