I enjoyed my stay - a good base for business or toirism in Penang. A high floor ensures a good view(avoiding the view of the twin tower) and no street noise. Lots of local functions here, so the elevator and lobby are often busy but if you stay in sombre business hotels a lot that bustle can be refreshing (as long as you are not in too much of a hurry for the elevator). Room floors are quiet though, so no problems. I didn't try the pool, spa etc, but it looked pretty low-key and you wouldn't stay here for the quality of the leisure facilities.
- good view of georgetown and the Penang Hills from the top floors
- comfortable rooms, clean, good service and nice friendly staff
- fast, reliable wifi
- not the best breakfast I've had in this range of hotel
- Midland Plaza where the hotel is located, is getting slightly decrepid and seedy
- Shopping Tip : Top floor of Midland Plaza shopping mall is good for cheap computer periperals. Persist up above a couple of semi-abandoned floors in the mall, and walk up the non-functioning escalator to the top floor and you may be rewarded by bargains!

The Berjaya Georgetown sits midway between the beaches in the north and the town centre in the south of Georgetown. It is well serviced by both buses and taxis. We even had a ride in a rickshaw!
The hotel staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable. Although we were on a smoking floor, the room did not have a noticeable odor and the views from our room were quite nice.
Great location.
Wide variety of food nearby.
Plenty of buses and taxis.
We were given a room on a smoking floor, but it didn't smell too bad.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The ferry across the water is cheap but there was nothing at all to see in the mainland. We visited one mega mall but didn't feel safe. Best stick to the Island.

It's an easy 20 minute walk to China Town and Central Market from the Royale Bintang and only a couple of minutes walk to the shopping centres like Lot 10 and the Star Gallery. There's a really nice mix of cultures in the area.

- Shopping Tip : Very close to all the major shops and markets.
