I have one complaint.
Last year, we stayed at the hotel. I had been asked to visit the Penang Club, of which I am a member, to present my autobiography. While there, in the first ten days in September, 2011, I visited the Bombay Shop, in the Victory Annexe arcade, in the E&O Hotel, and presented the Indian lady there with a signed copy of my book, "Life is what you make it", which contains references to the E&O Hotel, with some pictures taken in the ballroom, in the autobiographical section on Penang. She said that she would like 12 or 5 copies to sell and I said that I would make inquiries of the publisher, Melrose Books. I did so, and wrote to the Bombay Shop with my findings, on 12th December, 2011.
I received no reply, and, on 17th August, 2012, wrote again, enclosing a copy of the previously letter, and saying that
my wife and I would be visiting Penang from 30th August until 7th September, 2012. I offered to bring with me 12 or 5 copies of the book to save on postage.
No reply had been received by the time we left and so I packed five copies of the book as we were reaching the baggage weight limits. I had hoped that I would replace them with a copy of your book, "E&O Hotel; The Pearl of Penang".
On visiting the Bombay Shop, however, the Bombay Shop Supervisor, Merlene Narcis, told me that she would not buy any of my books, and when we arrived back home, there was an email dated 29 August 2012 waiting for me stating that "I just received your letter and I would like to inform you that we are unable to purchase your books.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused as I do not remember that I have made any agreement with you with regards to the books."
Obviously, to prevent excess baggage, I could not purchase "E&O Hotel; The Pearl of Penang".
I am annoyed by the non-response to my previous letters, and by the implication that what I stated was untrue. Copies of my letters are available for your perusal.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone, even if just for one night it’s worth the money.
Quite unique in it’s history.
Just stay a night and you’ll want to stay longer.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
All the sights on our your doorstep at the E&O. Easy walk to the historic fort, Chinatown and Little India.

we have stayed at the e and o several times over the years, in fact my wife and i met here 41 years ago. the development of the hotel in recent years has only improved it and not diminished it's historic charm. the staff are courteous and professional. sure it is a little expensive, but worth it!

Excellent 5 star hotel with fabulous harbour views

This is a fabulous hotel located in the centre of Georgetown, Penang. The rooms are huge, ours was 16m x 5m with a view of the harbour, so watching the passing shipping was a bonus.Plenty of places to eat at the hotel at reasonable prices. Upper Penang Road is 2 minutes walk and has lots of bars and cafes. The staff were so friendly and helpfull, nothing at all too much trouble. I can recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a 5 star hotel in central Georgetown. we will be back again and again, so much to see and do in and around Georgetown
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Use the free hop on hop off bus service that travells all around Georgetown. Stop 7 is about 3 mins walk from the hotel. Bus seems to run about every 30 mins. Great service, but can be crowded at peak time, still fun though.
