The best feature in this hotel are their FREE facilities. They have swimming pool, gym room, kids corner, and sauna.

Well, I have to admit that the room was a bit dusty.

Overall, my stay in Evergreen was satisfactory. Perhaps they just need to make sure that they will not make the guest to wait so long to check in. I waited for about half an hour to check in when we arrived. The friendly front-liners explained to me my rooms were not ready yet, therefore had to wait for a while. The rooms were nice except for being a little bit dusty. The hotel best thing was the facilities. It has a swimming pool, gym room, sauna room and kids corner as well. Besides that, the hotel is near to amenities. Well, there are eateries place, mamak stalls, shopping centre, hawker food centre and etc. Definitely a worth to stay hotel in Gurney, Penang area.

The service and the room layout and the bathroom, both of which are spacious

The carpets could do with some refurbishment. The toiletries could be a little better.

This is the second time that I've stayed at the Evergreen Laurel. Although, it's been four years since my last stay at the hotel, my view of the hotel has not changed. It continues to provide excellent service and I was pleasantly surprised when my room got upgraded when I checked it to two queen size beds, which is a real plus to me. The receptionist even threw in a free breakfast for one of the rooms which I had booked without breakfast. They sure know how to put some nice finishing touch to a very pleasant stay for me at the Evergreen Laurel.

Clean spacious rooms, comfortable bedding, great customer service

Complementary breakfast could improve, OUuer appearance and lobby looks a bit dated, no free shuttle to main Georgetown area (downtown), not enough TV channel stations

Overall, I had a lovely stay at this hotel. Front desk was super friendly to give me a room with a view of endless ocean and accommodated my needs without switching rooms. The deluxe room was big and clean, especially the bathroom and bed. Could stay within the room for the whole day. Would definitely recommend this hotel. While the location is good, it's not great in terms of accessibility. There are some famous restaurants nearby that's worth trying, but the closest hawker center (Gurney Hawker Center) is about 15 minutes away. While distance is not the only factor, the heat/humidity/sidewalk can make the walk unbearable at times. Also missing from this 5-star hotel is free shuttles to the heart of Georgetown -- it would be nice if the hotel can provide that to guests. 10-12 RM per taxi trip (as of mid 2009) can add up easily. Lastly, the cafe definitely needs some help. Penang is known for its food, but this cafe does not deliver (other than the bugs I saw in the salad bar).

Restaurant Tip : Skip the hotel -- If the Gurney hawker center is too far for you and you're willing to spend a little money, try the Carnation cafe for their famous Bah Kut Teh (morning only) and a Coconut Island (new since 2008 and the food is absolutely fabulous). Safety tip: Be careful of your purse or handbags, especially when carried over the shoulder on one side. I was constantly reminded by locals about personal safety because there's an increase in theft crimes by purse-snatching motorists. Use caution for a safe vacation.

value for $, clean, friendly & helpful staff.

small pool, bad traffic at gurney area.

we stayed 4 days in this hotel. the staff were really fantastic ! super friendly and helpful. always help with a smiling face. the rooms are very clean and tidy, we got sea facing rooms. really good value for money. We were not entitled to breakfast, but the service staff just give us free coffee at the restaurant, marvelous ! Nice location just out of the heavy traffic area at gurney food centre. But the swimming pool is just too small, and excess door to the pool is always locked, guests have to go thru toilets to reach pool, ridiculous !

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : visit david brown at top of penang hill.

well-appointed hotel, clean, excellent service

too far from city center

the hotel is very nice, extremely clean. the service, likewise, is excellent - the concierge looked into/arranged my transportation from penang to KL, gave me his honest opinion on the best way to travel, etc. breakfast was decent - the fresh roti canai was good. i did see a little roach on one of the counters, but it's malaysia - i can't think of an area where i have NOT seen roaches. internet access is predictably expensive, and the hotel is far from the city center, but it is within walking distance, if you don't mind a little hike.

Lovely hotel, very good staff

a little bit far from Georgetown or Batu Ferrinhi

The evergreen Laurel Hotel is a very good five star hotel, with a very good staff and a very pleasant buffet for lunch, dinner and breakfast. The room are not very big, compared to the Bayview Hotel George town for example, where we stayed before, but very well designed! The only problem is that it is based far from Georgetown and Batu Ferringhi, so if you want to go anywhere, you have to take a taxi!

Shopping Tip : Gurney Plaza Good Shopping Center)at walking distance

Value for money along Gurney Drive area.

None

Value for money along Gurney Drive area. Breakfast was only okay but can be real crowded on weekends. But in general, taxi services are too expensive in Penang, even from Hotel, as they also only offered non-meter taxi at flat charges! Hotel didn't promote fair values and encouraged such un-welcome practices! Hotel is still well maintained but the pool area is mostly covered in shelter most time of the day, so guests wanting a tan is not possible. Sea is not in good condition, as such, guests looking for seaside resort should head to Batu Ferringi area. The room is quite spacious with free internet access in room but the bed is a bit too hard. Housekeeping was only average as bed was not well fold and they only focus on emptying dustbins and replacing towels. Staff is quite attentive and helpful.

Shopping Tip : Hotel is within 15-20mins walking distance to Gurney Plaza.

Clean rooms, good location.

Buffet breakfast so-so, tour desk could be larger.

We took a non-smoking, city-facing room on the 16th floor. The room was large and clean with a big bathroom. The hotel is in a great location, right next to Gurney Drive hawker center. The hotel service was satisfactory and the staff were friendly. Overall we had a pleasant stay in Evergreen Laurel.

Restaurant Tip : Try the bak kut teh shop next to the hotel, it's excellent. The street hawker food about 2 stalls down is cheap and good as well.

Close to places we wanted to visit, and no problem(if you like a walk)getting into Georgetown.

The only thing that both my wife and I totally agreed on was in the bar;the hotel has a resident band which,if you like head-banging music played for the terminally deaf, you'll enjoy....I'm afraid we left rather hurriedly!!

Ideally situated for the Temple of The Reclining Buddha, which is a MUST see, absolutely breath-taking.A short walk to the shopping malls for the ladies who need retail therapy, and lots of good restaurants nearby.(One of which has the proud boast 'If it swims,we sell it')

Everything in room are well.

I concern about security. Because About 2am, I heard someone try to open my room. First, I think they make mistake to get into wrong room. But 30 minutes later I heard someone made noisy sound, After that for 15 minutes they also try to open my room.

I enjoyed to stay at Evergreen, excepted the terrible situation.

Restaurant Tip : Many seafood restaurant near the hotel.

finally, a hotel that gives you complimentary broadband (wired), 32" LCD TV (not bad), 3 apples, spa/jacuzzi & pool, complimentary breakfast n a fantastic location! and the safe is big enough to shove a full-sized lap top in.

decor trapped in a time warp, staff jackets in a horrid shade of green.

this is one hotel that won't nickel and dime you to death. it's great that they take the effort to make your stay comfy as all the mod cons are there. maybe they wanna put up a wireless router instead of the LAN wires. maybe they should provide better fruits as the 3 free apples were a tad powdery. maybe the breakfast could be less run-of-the-mill. but you sure can't beat the location.

Restaurant Tip : don't forget to checkout song river restaurant next door cause it sure is famous for something. but give the portugese grilled fish a miss cause the owner is crabby and refused to take orders.

Good location on Gurney Drive, solid quality in all areas (room, housekeeping, breakfast, sauna and pool), well-kept property, professional staff.

None

Booked Evergreen Laurel without any previous knowledge of Georgetown and, clearly, made the right choice. This hotel is well-managed, well-kept and with professional staff; nothing was too much trouble and if something got broken, it was fixed in no time. Evergreen Laurel seems to cater for the business people, but it was great for holidaymakers as well. Highly recommended!

I spent uncomfortable time in this trip due to bad selection for the room, no good view the services not satisfactory, etc. in spite of what I know of the beautiful services in my last vacation. Hope you reorgnize what is wrong??

The room was not as I was expected. I was back to the hotel because my first visit was fantastic. Bad services, no response for my complaining on time, slow in coverage orders etc. As one of your clients, please give full attention to your clients and keep your hotel in the best levels.

My review of the hotel stay was nice, and all what was confirmed while I was booking for the old period was nice as well. But this time hope you refer to all the services and reorgnize your papers, the services, responses, understanding and creating a comfortable weather for the guest. Unfortunately, I was not happy for the room and the services.
