Relatively new, friendly staff, location, being next to a huge shopping mall and also within walking distance to Gurney Hawker Street.

Average Breakfast Choices, we almost have the same food for 2 days. The panel in the lift where you put in your room card to access your floor is only working on one side of the lift so it depends on your luck if you have chosen the correct side to insert your card. We weren't so lucky on our 1st time. We have to go to the reception to change our room cards thinking that the problem lies with the cards...

We are quite pleased with the hotel as we are upgraded to 1 bedroom suite because they were running full. We have booked 3 rooms and all our rooms are upgraded. We enjoyed the Executive lounge too, stopping by to have a drink after a long shopping trip. The pool was also great, with a jacuzzi pool as well. On the flip side, we tried the International & Japanese buffet in the hotel restaurant on one of the nights, sad to say, it awful and not up to standard at all. There were limited staff working and you have to queue quite long just to pick up some fried prawns. The cook was deep-frying some prawns in a small pot of oil so you can imagine how long it takes to have your order fulfilled. Also, if you are q-ing for noodles, you have to wait for the same cook to juggle between frying the prawns to cooking the noodles. The steam egg for example was very hard, did not meet the basic japanese food standard. In fact, majority of the food was not up to standard. The california temaki was too dried, you couldn't swallow well. Anyway, we reckon to pay for M$85++ per pax for this meal was totally not worth it. However, meals aside, we will definitely stay in this hotel again if we are planning to go back to Penang.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We hired a private mini bus to bring our family of six out for a half day city tour. This is a better option then hiring 2 taxis.

New and modern hotel, with a fully equipped gym. Located next door to Gurney Plaza, the best shopping complex in Penang, and with the Gurney Drive hawker stalls virtually on your doorstep.

Sound-proofing of the rooms

The main purpose for our stay in Penang was to shop, eat and visit family. To these ends, the G Hotel filled its brief. The hotel facilities and the building itself are very impressive. I was impressed with the equipment available in the gym and for those interested, the treatment received at the day spa was also of a good standard. The room itself was spacious and clean. The only criticism we had in terms of the hotel facilities itself is the sound-proofing of the rooms. For us, as we were out most of the day and had fairly quiet nieghbours, it wasn't really a problem. However, if this is not the case, I could see how it could be. The noise from the bathroom next door can be heard quite clearly (e.g. flushing toilets and the shower running - thankfully nothing else was heard!). The staff were all very courteous, polite and helpful. We requested and received a room with a nice seaview, although my wife and I had to sleep in two king single beds (even though we had requested a double) due to a mix up with the booking. We did not have any meals at the hotel (given the multitude of restaurants and eating places nearby), although we did have the breakfast buffet one morning and there was plenty to choose from. It was all fairly standard fare, western and asian, although I will make special mention of the mini chocolate croissants. Delicious! The location of the hotel was perfect for us. We were located right next door to what we considered the best shopping complex in Penang [compared to the others we did go to including Queensbay Mall (near the airport) and Prangin Mall (city centre)]. A taxi fare from the airport to the hotel was a standard RM38, although the trip to the airport was slightly more expensive. A taxi fare into the city centre is a standard RM15 (although we managed to bargain it down to RM12). The Gurney Drive hawker stalls are a 2 minute walk from the hotel and are a must for night time eating.

Hotel Feature Tip : If leaving or returning to the hotel at night, it may be best to be picked up or dropped off on the other side of Gurney Plaza (and walking through the shopping centre) to avoid being stuck in traffic gridlock.

Hotel lobby is indeed very hip and modern. Rooms are spacious and new.

While big, rooms are somewhat bare and the big boxy tv stands like a sore thumb in this day and age. Service of hotel Room amenities

Chose the hotel because of rave reviews but came back disappointed. The seaview rooms are only for the standard rooms but no superior rooms, we were told. And both room types have no bathtubs. Location, other than being next to a mega shopping mall and Gurney drive hawker stalls, is far from ideal. You have to take a taxi to go anyway. Going to centre of town costs RM15 and a short ride down to restaurants along Gurney drive costs RM8 (that's for a 10 min walk). THe room rates are also pricey for what we get. You get much better value, I am sure, at the beach hotels with full facilities.

Nice rooms, service average.

Overall good experience.

The executive lounge facilities are excellent. However some improvement in snacks can be made specially from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm by adding some more dishes (local type). Breakfast is well organized with many varieties. Mini bar facilities should be free of charge in the room for executive guests or no need to provide since executive lounge is available for special guests.

Shopping Tip : Good location for quality shopping.

Modern clean hotel. Sits next to Gurney Plaza. Walking distance to Gurney Drive hawker stalls.

We requested for a seaview executive room but was provided with a mountain view instead.

G Hotel sits next to a shopping mall called Gurney Plaza. It is also walking distance to Gurney Drive hawker stalls. The hotel is hype and modern. We like the lobby of the hotel. The front office staff were friendly. The doormen and the concierge staff were all helpful. Across the road from this hotel is the seaside. It is a great place to take a stroll after a good dinner at Gurney Drive hawkers. The Gurney Plaza has many cafes and shops. G hotel is definitely a must for all who loves to stay in good, clean accommodation whether on business or for leisure. But price of room is not cheap comparing to similar hotels in KL.

Nightlife Tip : Gurney Drive char kway teow and Penang laksa are a must for all food-lovers.

Stylish, beautiful

No bath only a shower

It was a nice hotel in a very fashionable. I was not sure what the standard was too bad I did not have a bathtub with shower only. Located next to the GANIPURAZA, the best shopping. It is so convenient and close to the stalls at night. I think the hotel could also turn night MARITAI.
