Enjoyable stay

We booked 2 deluxe seafacing rooms for 3 nights and were given rooms on the first floor. I asked for a room nearer the elevator as the first room allotted to me was too far for my 87 year old mother to walk. Front Desk was understanding and attended to the request within 15 minutes although I was there at a peak period.
Variety of food at breakfast was good and I observed that food was constantly replenished.
For a 4-star hotel, the reception area is too small/stuck in a corner and when a bus load of tourists arrive to check in; the whole area is over crowded
Hotel Feature Tip:
The operators of water sports on the beach were constantly eyeing hotel guests and at times were pestering them. We also could not sit on the beach for too long as one of the operators told us the boss would charge us $10 - this is definitely one of the cons of trying to walk/stay on the beach.

Lovely hotel but not a shangri-la

The hotel is lovely, a strong 4 star hotel. The breakfast was good (busy but they managed). The restaurants offer a good mix of food options. The drinks are pricey when you consider you can walk 50m down the road to a roadside restaurant and pay a fraction of the price. The beach doesn't have a lot of shade and they don't really encourage hotel guests to use it (it's a public beach so there are people selling stuff on it. It is a shame as a few loungers with cabanas would really improve the beach area as our little girls wanted to build sand castles all day but it was just too hot without some kind of cover. The rooms are nice though they didn't clean our room the second day we were there (we spoke to housekekeping about this at least 3 times during the day but nobody materialized. All of that being said it was still a fun couple of nights. The kids had a lot of fun. 45 min drive from the airport
Restaurant Tip:
walk out of the hotel gates and turn right walk about 50m and there is a lovely little restaurant with a juice stall at the front that has great food. plus the night market opens around it so there is lots of tourist tat to look at!

Lovely Experience
Very close to beach, Good place to suntan, Good facilities and activities for children

Checking in was smooth with a nice welcome drink. Bags came up swiftly. Room spacious with a clean and decent restroom. Staff all very helpful and friendly. Shuttle bus service was good but could have higher frequency.

Rooms are very clean & well maintain, with complimentary babycot (also very new & clean condition) & with complimentary extra kid's bed.
Pools are nice, especially the pool with slide comes with warm water & dedicated lifeguard which is just nice & thoughtful to cater the needs for young kids (especially when you need to guard > 1 kids at a time)
Restaurant Tip:
the local hawker stall beside the hotel serve nice sizzling beef with very reasonable cheap price, the owner are very friendly too.

We arrived on a flight from KL after 7pm for an overnight stay. We wanted to refresh ourselves quickly and head out. On arrival, there were no bath or hand towels nor bathmats. On enquiry, we were told that the hotel had run out of towels and were offered beach towels instead. This is the first hotel we have ever stayed in where they had run out of a basic item. Perhaps we would have been more understanding if they had just put in the beach towels anyway with an explanatory note but instead, we had to call to enquire. We returned after midnight so we are not sure when the towels eventually arrived but they were there when we returned.
There was also no shampoo, bath gel, bath caps, cotton wool -- only soap and toothbrushes.
When we arrived, there was also not a single sachet of tea or coffee for beverage making.
When we first came into the room, we struggled to find the slot for the card to enable the room lights only to discover that the plastic case had come off and was loosely put back, obscuring the slot.
Even though we were only there overnight, it was nonetheless a disappointing experience for a hotel like Golden Sands. It would appear that the staff training is not as rigorous. Only on checkout, a manager offered a feeble apology. As they say in marketing, you never try a bad product more the once.
