Nice hotel in the heart of town
great view, good geograpgic location, friendly staff and good food

our room was on the highest floor and right in the middle of the hotel mid-section. we had a great panoramic view without any obstructions. our stay were pleasant and the staff were friendly too. the hotel is situated right in the middle of the town (i guessed) and we enjoyed both hotel and local food without any difficulty. the night street market was just a stone away. love it and definitely will come back again.
Travel tip:
Go for local food and let the taste bud experience the difference.

we like this hotel, the location, landscape of the swimming pool, beach and the sea. The rooms are quite big, the bed is comfortable too.The staff are well manners and polite too.

rooms are very small for the price
ocean view should read pool view - for any room less than level 4.
breakfast buffet had excellent and tasty malaysian cuisine, but the western section was ordinary (stick to the curry, noodles and the rice dishes)
Restaurant Tip:
there are better dining options in the other shangri-la resort next door, and the e&o lone pine (the other next door) has a nice japanese restaurant - and better atmosphere.

Difference receptionist service to local vs foreigner. We are local therefore no explianation, no boucher, no welcome drink to us while checking in. But when foreigner, can see that they are giving different service. What is this?? We were paying and we were the guest too...

Kids thoroughly enjoyed the beach that was for hotel guests. We also had to add an extra room for an extra night and requested for the adjoining room which they made available for us with very little hassle.

Great Hotel just as we remembered it

Nice relaxing time with good weather and excellent facilities. Nearly as we remembered from our first visit in 1986. They have changed the pool area which before was more for adults with a bar in the pool. Staff and service were good as expected, although food selection could be more varied.

I recently visited Penang to source work opportunities, and unfortunately go hit with a stomach bug the day before I arrived. The hotel staff where very helpful and my room was beautiful and peaceful so I was able to recouperate quite quickly. At night the street market was right on our door step and there where places to eat and drink out just minutes from the front door, for the first two night I used room service which hosted some excellent food, so on the whole I was thoroughly thrilled with my stay and will be going again.
