Price is right, location is central - in the trade/business district of Penang, transportation not a problem at all.
A bit old, but for price i cant complain. Paid WIFI service to room (RM10 per hr) had very bad reception, and had to go to lobby to check email (also paid!)
Generally, the Grand Continental is a value for money hotel, located just across the road from the Gama Dept Store where a busy traveller can stock up on almost anything at a good price. Food was also good around the hotel, with no lack of clean street food in the daytime. Give it a miss, though, if you're looking at making your way to Gurney Drive or the beaches of Batu Feringgi.

building is old and no maintenance is done.
facilities is not good
The hotel staff are friendly and the location of the hotel is strategic. shopping complex and hawkers centers is within walking distance. however, the housekeeping is bad and the facilities provided by the hotel is very limited. the building is quite old and not being maintain in good condition.

Cheap, very near the city center, friendly staff
the room looks very old and smells a bit
Given the price of the hotel, it is definitely value for money. When I arrived at the hotel there was a group of children apparently just arrived also. However, checking in was not a problem since the group was handled by as a group check-in; does not interfere with normal guest check in. The room looks very old and can do with some refurbishment, but then again the price may increase. Breakfast is on the first day is ok, but on the second day there was a large crowd and some items were finished very quickly and replacement came in late.
Car parking is no problem since there were ample spaces available.
Overall, my stay is ok.
