Clean rooms and good variety at Breakfast. Great view from room.
No assistance at reception. Poor food at restaurant. Poor location.
Persons at reception unable to assist if help or local information required. Received help from the car park attendant. No information available on Hotel facilities. Refer to internet to find out what was available. Should of known when I was the only person seated in the restaurant that food would be poor. Luckily car park attendant directed me to a close local restaurant. Need a taxi to go anywhere. Not practical to walk.

Amazing view of the sea and of the city. Good in house dining.
Nothing to bad. Breakfast buffet is a little to much asian style for my western tastes.
I enjoyed my stay here. Great view with good dining in the hotel. Helpful staff made it a pleasure to stay. I will stay again. It has all the basics needed for a good stay. Location is also central to everything I wanted to do. Walking distance to major shopping centres. Check in was easy and staff were all great and very helpful.

Central and convenient location. Good rates. Quite clean except for the carpet
I had some problem with the operator with my incoming calls but this was quickly attended to by the guest relations officer. Carpets need changing or thoroughly cleaned
My stay at Hotel Royal Penang, Penang was worth more then the hotel rate I paid and this included breakfast for two. The reception staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. The location is very convenient and central and I was able to walk to many places.I would recommend this hotel to visitors to Penang

The beach is awesome

All i can say is this hotel really worth this price! Nice serive and good view.
When we first went into the room, we found that the locker is locked and we call the serice assistant to open it for us. He came within a minute! Also, when i checked out and in the way of return to Penang, I just know i left my cell phone in the hotel. Than i back to hotel, and the staff there are very helpful that gave me the room key and help me to find.
Restaurant Tip : There is a restaurant opposite the hotel called "cactus". Nice food and low price there.

Seaview and next to supermarket and resturant
Wi-fi service at lobby is quite unreliable
Hotel room is nice and tidy with a good seaview. A number of restuarants offering cusine from chicken rice, pizza and hotpot are located just next to the hotel. A supermarket and a pharmacy are just a few blocks away. Concierge is extremely helpful, helps book taxi for us to airport at 4:30 am. Free shuttle to a Gurney Plaza, possibly the best shopping mall in Penang.

Overall good value, clean, safe
The sauna does not seem to work as advertised
I spent one full day checking out as many of the hotels in Georgetown that I could get to (based on my google search). The Royal Penang is the best overall for clean room and hotel amenities (although it is just a basic hotel, much of the competition have fairly serious faults). Location is good and the room comfortable.
Restaurant Tip : There is a really good dog gone Chinese restaurant within a 2 minute walk. Wish I could remember the name.....

Staffs are very inefficient. I kept waiting for a long time, The staffs kept me waiting but always assisted others who were queue-jumping. I booked the room through agoda, but they treated me as walk-in, I tried to download the confirmation from my email at their internet room, but they didn't have Adobe Reader, so no way to prove I have paid the fee through agoda as I couldn't download the confirmation just because of no Adobe Reader software in their computer. Finally I had to call my boyfriend in Hong Kong to fax the confirmation to hotel to avoid they double charge for the room. It is no point there is no Adobe Reader in hotel,and they also didn't find anyway to assist with client but to double charge client.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : easy to find many sovenir shops

The room is clean and well maintained. The toilet did not show much stain as compared to some others aging hotel.
Breakfast was not well managed. I supposed because it's a public holiday but then again they should had prepared for it and not let guests to que and wait so long. Anyway, cause there were lots of others food around I just give the que and the breakfast a missed.
It's within walking distance to many eateries.The price paid RM165++ for a public holiday were well worth it.

Situated next to Giant supermarket, clean and tidy room, friendly staff, nearby to food courts and shopping area.
No lift to parking area, need to walk few flights of staircase to get to parking area. Parking area very small.
Overall quite a pleasant stay. Quite easy to locate the hotel as it was quite tall and mostly the buildings in Penang is quite short. But the entrance to parking area is quite small, and not much parking space available. Need to take few flights of staircase to parking area, which is not good if you have many luggage.
Staff are quite friendly, breakfast is quite good. Rooms are clean and tidy.

This hotel have a very nice and cosy room...other than that, the toilet oso not bad if compare with other hotel that i stay b4. Customer service very good as well.
the only weakness is very hard to find carpark cause the basement carpark too small to allocate all guest.
Normally i stay near to feringgi, this time i choose Royal Hotel because its near to the city center, beside that, it oso not so far from gurney drive.
during my stay in Royal, the customer services there are marvelous, other than that, they also very willingly to help me n my husband when v ask them how 2 find a dim sum restaurant...haha...
Conclusion, i have a wonderful stay in Royal Hotel.

Good location, free internet.
I'm been to this hotel since it was operated by Sheraton. The hotel is pretty much the same regardless of the brand name. Free Internet in the guest room is an added benefit which I enjoyed very much. Breakfast is below average though. The price is reasonable. Very nice view.
Restaurant Tip : A 5 minute walk to the back of the hotel will bring you delicious food.

The location, warm and friendly staff
We asked them to fix the safe in the room but they never came
On the whole it was value for money, but the room and hotel were a little old and the sheets were not the cleanest I've slept on. We managed to walk to Gurney Drive, took about 20 min. No buses. They charge RM15 for each taxi ride from the hotel to most places in town. Breakfast was so-so.
Restaurant Tip : There is a famous Hokkien prawn noodle stall just behind the hotel at a coffee shops called "Corner Cafe". Great for breakfast or lunch. Be prepared to wait though as people will order 20 packs at a time.

located in very good place in the island
to start with we liked the service at the hotel,very clean,food very nice up to our standard,stuff very polite and nice and helpfull,but the towel sometimes smells with dump,maybe they can improve on that.location was perfect in our appionen,easy access to evertwher and everything,like shopping places and the food courts,we think the building might need some maintainence so it will give a better impression,otherwise we thought all things in the hotel was just perfect,we look forward to come back there in the near future.
Restaurant Tip : the food court near by,and very close to George town.walking distance to everywhere

Good value for money, good sport facilities
A bit far from tourist attractions
We stayed in hotel Royal Penang for 2 days and overall, it is a decent hotel. Our room was quite spacious and although it had a strange (unpleasant) smell, which we could not get rid of because the windows could not be opened. The breakfast had good variety. There is a small but nice swimming pool, sauna and fitness room. The sauna does not seem to be used much (I went twice and I was the only user). The hotel is a bit far from the tourist areas in the centre (20-30 min walking) but it is very good value for money.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : If you plan to go to Penang hill and Kek Lok Si temple, you don't need to rent a hotel taxi for 4 hours. It's a waste of money. You better get individual taxis to take you from one place to the next.
