nice hotel but dissapointing room.

loved the lobby, lounge, pool but the room furniture was dissapointing. The room was spacious but the furniture looked dated and had seen better days. mattress was lumpy, we didnt get a good nights sleep. Hotel does offer free baby cribs which we decided not to use.
Wifi was limited only to lounge and restaurants which was another dissapointment.
Food was okay, lots of choice and tasted above the average hotel breakfast.
Staff service was good and friendly .
overall, for the price we paid it wasnt so bad but i will not be coming again

the hotel is huge but located between georgetown and batu ferringhi. you need to take cabs or the bus which stops right outside the hotel. the beach is accessed from an overhead pass to allow you to cross the road and then down some stairs. the beach is rocky and largely unusable because of gravel under your feet and stinging jellyfish. there are no beach activities, facilities - no chairs umbrellas or even towels.
the hotel premises are clean the pool good and the breakfast and restaurant is very good.
there are some expats that live long term here mostly british.
getting in and out is a hassle although the hotel tries to provide a shuttle to town and the beach and night market.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
For sightseeing south of Georgetown like the War Museum, Aquarium do not rely or use the local Bus. It takes 3 hours to make the trip 1 way. Take the Hotel shuttle to Georgetown and take a cab from there.

Good Hotel

I only stayed for two nights. The hotel was better than I expected, but that isn't saying much as I don't normally stay in four star places. This time the price was right. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was just right to travel between Batu Ferringhi and Georgetown. My room was clean and spacious. The description of the room said I would not receive an ocean view, but upon arrival the room did in fact have an ocean view, though at an angle. I would definitely recommend this hotel for those who want quiet night stay and want to be out during the day.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
It seemed to me that the cable railway up Penang hill is a tourist trap. Better to go hike around the Botanic Gardens, which is free, and you can hike around the forests of Penang hill. There's more wildlife there anyways, especially macaque monkeys. these guys will try to attack you if you get to close, but will back down if you show them who the bigger monkey is, lol!

Stayed at Hydro for 3 days 2 night. Nice hotel, nice environment. At 1st we get quite a huge room, but then later on the room is leaking due to heavy rain. So we request to change to another room which is quite similar size. We had buffet breakfast, for 1st day (Friday) the foods just ok. But on 2nd day the foods much better and lots of choices. Pool is great, my daughter loves it. Overall, I'm satisfied staying here at Hydro and will come back if we go to Penang.
