We were in close proximity to shops and eateries so that was really convenient. The hotel decor and furnishings are a little dated, but service was excellent so can't really complain about anything.

Good service, clean but a dated style.
Staff Service, Clean rooms, Well-equipped gym
I visit Penang every 3 months or so and have now started to use Traders rather than my previous choice the Evergreen Laurel. Traders costs a bit more but I prefer the restaurant and gym facilities and the staff are super-friendly and helpful. The only grouse is a lack of channels on the TV and the TV itself which is an old-fashioned CRT type (in the standard rooms). Bed is enormous, sheets are changed every day by default without having to remember to request it and the bathroom works with plenty of hot water. Car parking is relatively easy- the hotel carpark is small but never seems to be full. The lobby bar is a friendly place with a resident band who actually sing in tune! Location is so-so. Its in what used to be the city commercial centre but this area is now rather run down with the very tired-looking Komtar tower and a large bus station next door. But taxis are plentiful if you don't have any transport of your own.

Double standard for Traders Hotel
Location, Air Conditioning
Overall, Traders Hotel Georgetown is overcharged! Just do a simple. Old fashioned dining tables at coffee house, not attentive waiters & waitresses. That clear up everything, assuming guest have finished their breakfast, which is totally unacceptable. This happened to me twice! Fyi, I'm seated next to the cashier counter, a 2pax table seating. Secondly, how can F&B Director or Management allow the dumping of unfinish food at a mobile cart infront of cashier counter. Which is less than 4ft away from buffet counter and the nearest dining table. Furthermore, this is the most eyesore activity in any F&B business. Even though is just dumping unfinish platter on a plastic bag which is hung on mobile cart. This should be done back of the house kitchen or at a hidden corner which is always decorated with pots of flowers. Secondly, for the rate chargeable does not conform with Traders Hotel / Shangri-La Group Management. Mini bar in my room is empty & front office told me that a self service dispensing machine is available somewhere in the hotel. Come'on, you should at least have a printed memo on make-up table in every room to inform in-house guest. This is something even local 3 stars hotel could make up to it! To summarize out, I would not stay at this hotel anymore. Bad experience
