Sabah

Sabah is one of Southeast Asia's most ecologically rich and diverse destinations. This Malaysian province on the island of Borneo attracts travelers with pristine rainforest, great beaches, world-class diving and exotic flora and fauna, all within a short flight of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Most visitors arrive at Tawau Airport and spend their first night in the capital of Kota Kinabalu before moving on to explore this amazing region of Borneo.

Sabah prides itself on eco-tourism. Many travelers come to Sabah to visit orangutan rehabilitation sanctuaries and to embark upon rainforest treks. The national parks of Sabah today are extremely popular with visitors and they're a driving force behind Sabah's tourist economy.

Mount Kinabalu is another major attraction of Sabah. The tallest mountain in Asia, rising from the rain forest to an altitude of over 4000 meters, the summit can be reached via trek. Hikers normally make the summit in two or three days, and although it’s easy enough to do without a guide, hiring an experienced guide is often a far more rewarding experience. Sabah accommodation options are plentiful in and around the National Park.

Diving is also a huge biggest attraction in Sabah, and the islands of Sipidan and Mabul are world renowned for their pristine reefs that are home to turtles, coral and thousands of species of fish. The city of Sandakan acts as the main launchpoint for ecotours and diving in Sabah, and guests will find accommodation here and plenty of tour operators and dive centers. Sandakan also has a number of tourist attractions within the town center, including mosques, a proboscus monkey sanctuary, markets, churches and war memorials
