Great setting amongst the trees. pool was great, tennis court was good.
smoke smell on the floor was strong. beer was expensive. needed mini vans to transport guests around. Taxis were a little old and dangerous.
we really love our stay at the hotel. Things to see and do in Sandakan are spread far and wide so would be great if the hotel had mini vans for transport. We were 6 people so had to keep getting 2 taxis which was a pain. The hotel was loverly and very relaxing in a beautiful setting. Breakfast and lunch buffets were great. dinner was a little disappointing. nice friendly staff and good rooms, a bit of a smokey smell in the hallways. beer is expensive.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : everything is spread out so if you ar not part of a tour make sure you hire a car to get yourself around. Roads are good and easy to navigate so just go for it.

Amazing recreational facilities, swimming pool, table tennis, squash and tennis courts, mini golf and lovely shaded pool area. Restaurant meals, choice and service were excellent.
We drove ourselves and nearly missed hotel entrance as sign was difficult to spot from road. Reception staff weren't as friendly as restaurant and rest of staff. Pool closed at 7pm, a little early.
A lovely hotel, very clean and spacious rooms, nice bathroom. The swimming pool area is beautiful, lots of shade and plenty of seating. Lots of sporting activities and a fully serviced gymnasium. A great restaurant, lots of choices in al-a-cart menu and were offered set menu and buffet style as well. Great choice at breakfast buffet too. Gift shops really well stocked and well priced, plenty of larger sizes for tee-shirts a huge bonus. Plenty of parking with shade also.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hotel was a short distance to Sepilok Orangatan Rehabilitation Centre, CBD, Sandakan Memorial Park for Death marches (amazing) and Proboscis monkey park.

Great ambience takes me back to Penang in the 1970-80s. Very old world charm with all the mod conns. Desk clerk extremely efficient and helpful. Room was great rating may have dropped from 5 to 4 star but rooms are still 5 star in my book!Great breakfast and open early for those who need to get going early for business etc.
I honestly didnt observe anything that needs improvement at this stay.

Great location. Good breakfast. Helpful staff
Carpets a little bit old and ragged
We really loved our stay at the Sabah. The rooms were good sized. The pool was geat. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The best feature of the hotel is the location. Surrounded by rainforest, it was so quiet and comfortable. The front counter staff were very helpful. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Must visit Sepilok Orangutan sanctuary.

Friendly Staff,
Best hotel in Sandakan,
Good restaurants and lounge,
Pleasant swimming pool area - a great relief from the Borneo heat,
Good exercise/workout room, and
Clean.
A little dated and worn looking from the constant assault of heat and humidity.

Lovely hotel pool, good buffet and very quiet
No balcony and the drinks in the bar was quite expensive
Hotel Sabah (which was a short flight from KK)was a beautiful hotel in the middle of a mountain. Use the local bus services from outside the hotel which will save you lots! This hotel is catered for all types of people
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : When you go to town or visit the the orangatangs, catch a bus from outside the hotel, costs nearly nothing. When you go to see the orangatang feeding in the morning, you can also stay for the afternoon session for free

Pool, Jungle feel, clean.
For Sanadkan this is the best choice. The hotel is a little old, but good for the area. It is clean and not far from the airport. The food was fine and the pool nice.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : I would stay here rather than at Sepilok, as it is close enough to go to see the orangutans and be back at the hotel. At least you get a pool and a few restaurants.

Clean, reasonably well furnished.
Some way from town, so inconvenient for shopping and sightseeing without transport.
The local singer left much to be desired - vocals were off and she had to stop after each song to find the words for the next! Also, I hardly think cutaway jeans as suitable attire for a lady of her maturity or the location.
The Sabah hotel is probably the best in Sandakan and it certainly is suitable as an overnight stay (after a late arrival into the airport) or for the business traveller. However, while it appears to be in the centre of town from the maps - it is actually some way away from the tourist attractions in the town and transport is a necessity. The hotel and facilities are fine and the staff courteous and welcoming.

Friendly service, pool, large comfortable rooms, good quality poolside buffet, outside centre (but not far).
Friendly service could be a little quicker, Chinese restaurant downstairs was a little slapdash (but still okay)
This hotel offers very good value-for-money, friendly service, a very enticing pool with jacuzzi and water slide, large comfortable rooms (containing some well thought-out details), a good quality poolside buffet and the internet service, although there is only one computer, is not abusively priced.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It is only a short walk from Agnes Keith's house, beside which the English Tea House is a great place to have a drink or a meal and contemplate the bay.
