Nice rooms, very clean bathroom.
Ideal location for Sandakan
Frontline staff can be a little more friendlier to guests.
The hotel is ideally located, and is pretty enough. Breakfast was good without being fantastic, but no complains on this department. Food was reasonably priced for Sandakan's biggest hotel, so that's a plus point. I also liked the rooms although I felt the staff could have been friendlier. I would still stay here though, if I were to come back to Sandakan.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : If you are using Sabah Hotel as your base to visit Sepilok and Labuk Bay and other tourist sites, you might want to consider hiring a car and go on a self drive tour. I found the taxis a little on the pricey side, as they are not using meters, and you end up having to negotiate your rates all the time.

The hotel was welcoming. The staff was friendly and helpful. The ambiance was very nice.
There was no safe in the room even though their info said each room had one.
While our stay was only one night it was very pleasant. The TV had a good selection of stations - something for everyone. The restaurants were good; the Chinese was excellent and the breakfast buffet had a nice variety. The The bar was set up for the comfort of the guests All in all it was very comfortable. We would stay there again without any hesitation.

seems you are in the forest...
the breakfast food is not good, not much choice as well
The staff are friendly and very helpful in this hotel. I love the nature trail, very good place to go, the staff accompany is very friendly, escort us around and tell us what kind of the trees are...we though the nature trail is not so difficult, in fact, it will be a bit hush for the seniors. There are so many red arts in the nature trail, but anyway, this is a place worth to go if you stay in this hotel.

- Great location
- Great service and travel desk
- Free Internet!
We stayed in Sabah hotel all of 24 hours as my wife had fallen sick. The hotel went out of the way to make our stay comfortable. They even arranged for the buffet breakfast to be sent to our room since my wife was not well that day. Service was quick and very good. The travel desk lady was really, really nice and gave us good advice. Noone in Malaysia, that we encountered, tried to rip us off. Also, we got free wifi internet.
AVOID the Pizza. The hotel is fantastic, good value for money and everything... except for the pizza. The lunch buffet is not vegetarian friendly, although the desserts will make up for the lack of veriety in the main course. (advice Only for veggies)

lovely rooms and helpful staff
strange combinations of food in the restaurant
The hotel was lovely - we stayed in the executive wing which was clean and the rooms were nice. Facilities were good if a little expensive. We used the hotel travel agents to book a private tour to sepilok orangutan sanctuary which was well organised.

Nice big clean room, bath, decent price, staff
Great place RM6 from sandakan town. A bit more expensive than most hotels in Malaysia but you get what you pay for.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Good launch point for the Sepilok centre.

We paid for an upgrade after viewing the deluxe room. Was better to have a bigger room as we stayed a few nights. Breakfast excellent. Pool area lovely. Sarah the hostess in the restaurant is excellent.
Check-in was slow and it is not airconditioned, no cool drink, no chair to sit down. Deluxe room very ordinary, small and dim. Beds are hard and we have slept in many, I had to sleep with a pillow between my legs to support my hip! We upgraded but it took an extra 45 mins to do this. Porters were looking for tips. Even if you were asking for simple advice they were wanting a tip, annoying. The bar area I think was a bit on the seedy side for an up market hotel.
If you had kids stay at this hotel. Not central, it is out of town, too far to walk and you are a bit stuck there unless you want to get a taxi to somewhere. The rooms are small unless you upgrade and are very tired. They are done in a pink colour. Food is good and plenty of it, all is buffet. They do have a very good range of deserts for Sabah.
Hotel Feature Tip : Pool is excellent they also have a little bit of rainforest around it but no long walks that we could find

We stayed here 3 different nights while in sabah in July. This hotel compared v favourably with a 5 star resort we also stayed in,in KK. The swimming pool was really good and the breakfast was excellent. We ate buffet lunch one day which was also good, and v reasonably priced. The staff were v efficient but not too obtrusive
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The agnes keith museum is interesting but the English afternoon tea is expensive and overrated

great pool
friendly staff
great food
hard to fault for the price
This was a great value-for-money hotel and hard to fault considering it's reasonable price. We loved the themed buffet nights which changed every day. Staff were so nice and friendly, like all in Sabah. an easy walk down the 100 steps took us into town in 15 minutes. The pool area was a tropical delight. Our room was spacious.
Travel tip : The nearby English tea gardens has delightful devonshire teas and evening meals.

Great setting amongst the trees. pool was great, tennis court was good.
smoke smell on the floor was strong. beer was expensive. needed mini vans to transport guests around. Taxis were a little old and dangerous.
we really love our stay at the hotel. Things to see and do in Sandakan are spread far and wide so would be great if the hotel had mini vans for transport. We were 6 people so had to keep getting 2 taxis which was a pain. The hotel was loverly and very relaxing in a beautiful setting. Breakfast and lunch buffets were great. dinner was a little disappointing. nice friendly staff and good rooms, a bit of a smokey smell in the hallways. beer is expensive.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : everything is spread out so if you ar not part of a tour make sure you hire a car to get yourself around. Roads are good and easy to navigate so just go for it.

Very high standard of rooms more than the 4 star advertised. A delight to be in big airy and light. Nice view out the window. Staff are always friendly and helpful especially the desk staff. We arrived early before 8 am but the girls on the desk organized our checkin and luggage to be stored in luggage room while we wnt out to the function we were attending at the airport on our return the luggage was in our rooms already.
Sabah Hotel impresses me each time I stay this is the second time and fortunately we had a day off on the second day so we could relax by the pool after breakfast which was an extensive buffet with a seperate menu also available. We took one of the taxis from the hotel that works out of it after negotiating a very nice rate the day before to bring us to the POW Memorial Park for a couple of hours. When we arrived there my business companion left his valuable new video camera on the back seat and the taxi had driven off before he realized. With no way to contact the taxi we toured the very impressive gardens and museum and after about 30-40 minutes the taxi driver came walkin up the hill smiling with the camera in his hand. Returned it to my very grateful friend and went back to wait for us outside. Extremely good example of the Sabah locals and a credit to himself and the hotel he operates from, the Sabah Hotel Sandakan Malaysia. Jungle walking trails available from within the hotel grounds, gift shops and a great value for money Happy Hour add even more value to a wonderfully friendly and relaxing experience.

Amazing recreational facilities, swimming pool, table tennis, squash and tennis courts, mini golf and lovely shaded pool area. Restaurant meals, choice and service were excellent.
We drove ourselves and nearly missed hotel entrance as sign was difficult to spot from road. Reception staff weren't as friendly as restaurant and rest of staff. Pool closed at 7pm, a little early.
A lovely hotel, very clean and spacious rooms, nice bathroom. The swimming pool area is beautiful, lots of shade and plenty of seating. Lots of sporting activities and a fully serviced gymnasium. A great restaurant, lots of choices in al-a-cart menu and were offered set menu and buffet style as well. Great choice at breakfast buffet too. Gift shops really well stocked and well priced, plenty of larger sizes for tee-shirts a huge bonus. Plenty of parking with shade also.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hotel was a short distance to Sepilok Orangatan Rehabilitation Centre, CBD, Sandakan Memorial Park for Death marches (amazing) and Proboscis monkey park.

Great ambience takes me back to Penang in the 1970-80s. Very old world charm with all the mod conns. Desk clerk extremely efficient and helpful. Room was great rating may have dropped from 5 to 4 star but rooms are still 5 star in my book!Great breakfast and open early for those who need to get going early for business etc.
I honestly didnt observe anything that needs improvement at this stay.

Great location. Good breakfast. Helpful staff
Carpets a little bit old and ragged
We really loved our stay at the Sabah. The rooms were good sized. The pool was geat. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The best feature of the hotel is the location. Surrounded by rainforest, it was so quiet and comfortable. The front counter staff were very helpful. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Must visit Sepilok Orangutan sanctuary.
