Great location and lovely beach that was never very busy so had it to yourself most of the time. Very relaxing atmosphere with good choice of activities if you want to be more active. Excellent spa with a range of treatments
Service wasn't always that of a top 5* hotel - waiting staff in particular were at times slow and not very attentive. Service didn't always feel personalised. Food quality was generally excellent but felt that menus lacked choice and creativity - we were bored after a few days of eating the same thing.
All in all a very relaxing place to stay in a fantastic location but service and attention to detail could have been better to match that of other top quality 5* hotels. We felt that some personal touches were missing.

The rooms are FABULOUS - just the best, most comfortable bed. Most of the staff are exceptionally willing and friendly although they fall down in the delivery of good service.
There could be bins on the beach. Very disappointing to see litter lying around. Some of the front desk staff were quite sour and rude, wouldn't even look up and acknowledge your presence. The restaurant couldn't cope with the long weekend influx of guests. The service was so bad that we ended up cancelling our order. Wine is outrageously expensive.
The packed lunch on the snorkelling trip was awful. I feel that the management missed an opportunity to do something special, such as barbeque fresh fish on the beach and serve it with a few salads. Not so hard to do.
The spa needs to be renovated. I thought it looked old and tired and grubby, especially for the price.
Although we had a great weekend, I wouldn't go back. I thought it was overpriced for what it delivered. When paying around USD300+ per night, I expect a lot more for my money. Although the staff tried really hard, and were exceptionally friendly and helpful, it just fell short of my expectations. If it were a bit cheaper, my expectations wouldn't be so high. There is a general sense of not quite meeting the bar in all areas.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The snorkelling trip was wonderful. The two guys escorting us were knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. A very good day out. The packed lunch was pretty awful though.

Reception architecture (note not the service itself) and
Spa - highly recommended
SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE,
Architecture and facilities (outdated),
Food (Restaurants are way overpriced and lacking in variety..not to mention quality)
After hearing so much about the reknowned Tanjung Jara and being Malaysian originally, i could not help but want to be patriotic towards my country and support our industry. But this lesson taught to me to never think that again. Not only was the stay a complete lacklustre experience - starting from young and inexperienced team (both in reception and restaurant), to the so hyped-about 'di Atas Sungai' restaurant which we felt was a complete rip-off (RM 60 for a small plate of beef Rendang and RM 80 for a locally caught Red Snapper??!).
The Spa was the only best thing left for this hotel. The beach is nothing to rave about (yellow and rough sand), the surroundings green but mosquito infested, and the rooms are....average for a supposedly 5-star resort.
And oh...there is not air-conditioning....anywhere! Whilst some Europeans/"Westerners" might find that environmentally friendly, I personally do not find it very pleasant to sweat like a pig while u eat.

Resort view is very natural and calm. This resort feeling make us relaxed.
Transportation from hotel to airport, it takes one hour.
Hotel view is very natural and the attraction of ocean view is quite beautiful. Natural arranged accommodation and garden/pool feel us excellent. I would like to visit again and I will recommend it to my friend.

Setting of the Hotel, the Beach, the Foods, Friendliness of the staff
Not enough activities available around the hotel, especially if it rains. It woould be nice if the hotel provides water sports activities and indoor pool table or pingpong and DVD player in the rooms.
The Tanjong jara Resort is truly a beautiful place to spend your vacation with your loved one. It is a very romantic hideaway with a beautiful golden sand beach stretching a long the resort. The foods are superb and the spa is heavenly. Most of all the friendliness of the staff make your vacation a very pleasant and memorable one. My wife misplaced her Blackberry on the beach lounge chair and was returned to her by the staff who found it....very impressed. We will definitely try to come back again sometime inthe near future.
Travel tip : If you are looking for someplace to unwind and have a complete relaxation and recharge, this is the place to go.I highly recommend it to everyone to give it a try,it's a truly unforgetable experience

Exquisite, spacious room. Picturesque swimming pool by the beach.
If you plan to eat out of the hotel, there are not many choices in town. But you'll find KFC and Pizza Hut.
The moment you reach the hotel, you'll be greeted with the traditional Malay gong. You'd realized that you are in for a special treatment for your holiday. The staff are very courteous. This hotel is one of the best we've ever stayed in. The room (Bumbung)is spacious and exquisitely decorated. My family spent most of our time at the swimming pool - which is located next to the beach. This is a perfect getaway from the city.

Luxurious rooms, Great food mostly, Friendly staff, Spacious,
We stayed at Tanjong Jara at the end of october during start of monsoon so weather was a bit unpredictable but we had some lovely days and it was so quiet and peacefull which is what we wanted. Food in the two restaurants was excellent. Ann the menu master at the main restaurant is a star helping you choose what to eat in the \"no menu concept\" restaurant and doing interesting trips to the market. Didnt do many other trips because spent most time just relaxing but there are some excursions to do. \nMade mistake of having the \"steamboat\" one dinner. If you like boiled meat and seafood and all tasting of fish then fill your boots cos you will get lots of it. We dont so we stuck to the two main restaurants after that. Overall it is the best hotel on the east coast.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : morning market interesting

The restaurant near reception was way too hot. It needed airconditionong. We were seated by a window but we were still too hot to enjoy our meal.
Most luxurious hotel we have stayed in. The villa was incredibly beautiful with the lovely touches of thongs and gowns, great bathroom products, decent wine, massive bathroom. Great extras like the BBQ appetisers, water and fruit by the pool, separate no kids pool. Great guide Ann that took us around the market in Dungong. As a tip for travellers, the cab ride from Terrenganu should cost no more than 90 ringgit.Value for money with half price through Agoda.Location far from anything so good in a way but a bit of a drive to get there.

Beautiful and well appointed room with plenty of space for our 11 year old to share the room with us.
Unfortuntaely the restaurant on the beach was holding a private function on the evening that we wanted to eat there. However we did have lunch on the beach, and the service was not up to standard - two of us had finished our main course before the third persons had arrived. We were also not impressed with the 'walking menu' concept in the main dining area and felt pressured into choosing something that we did not enjoy. The pleasure of perusing a menu was denied us.
A beautiful and luxurious hotel, spoilt by the food on offer in the main restaurant.
For an international hotel we would expect an extensive menu, offering more of a variety of cuisines, and not just Malaysian food.
On arrival, the verandah doors to our room would not close, and we had to call maintenance. These things should be checked beforehand.
Gorgeous rooms, shame about the food.
