- exotic sorroundings -> beautiful location and amenenities like gym, swimming pool, sports arena
- restaurants are very good - Neelayan is the best with many options
- rooms (standard chalet) lacked basic things like clean toilet, coffee mugs, safe deposit vault, drinking water
- We had 2 rooms next to each other and one of the rooms was clearly ill prepared
- only after going to the room we realised we had 2 separate single beds rather than having 1 double bed. Information should have been provided by the staff at checkin
- the toilet bowl was not cleaned which is pathetic for a 4 or 5 star resort like this
- they had universal TV remotes in rooms which were no way intuitive to use
Overall I would say, I would give it 2.5 of 5
If it would have been good rooms, it would have been close to 4
perfect ambience for a family holiday with one of the best snorkelling spots on the island (rengis island) being very close to the resort
the sight seeing or package tours are good with good guidance on what one should opt for. We got our money worth with the blue boat charter to coral island (also included monkey bay, genting island, marine park and rengis island)
I was delighted to see Indian food in the resort restaurant :)
The Ayura spa experience was good and refreshing.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : the blue boat coral island charter was superb.

Quite a nice view from the resort, the restaurant. The chalet was timber looked, looks good. The room was quite spacious. The water at the jetty in the resort is very clear, very nice.
The beach in front of the resort was not all very beautiful, and the charges of the hotel for activities are a little bit expensive. The room facilties is a little bit aged. In the evening, the light for the walk path was rather too dim.
The stay was considered decent, a little bit aged for the facilities, and the charges for the activities organized by the hotel is a little bit expensive, but it was convenient, since everything can be arranged by them.
Apart, the water at the jetty in the resort is very clear, beautiful, but the beach near to the main entrance was just ok.

The prompt service of the staff was execellent. The rooms were good.
I wish that there were more night life activities,For example,a theme park. The food was expensive.
The ambience of the place was simply super. The place gave us the oppurtinity to bond with each other. My family and I enjoyed our stay there. The hotel staff were helpful and courteous. The beach front was pleasant and scenic.

Not too far from Singapore.
Lovely beach, with many fishes.
Great getaway.
Some parts of the resort need renovation, especially the public toilets, both at the lobby and Restaurant.
Food is pricey. Exorbitant at the resort restaurant, and pricey at the Chinese Restaurant just outside the resort.
Corporate Service could be improved. Staff are not rude, but seem to lack a corporate culture in customer service.
I would consider it value for money, especially if what you are looking for is a quiet beach getaway.
Rengis island and the area where the rocks are, beyond the Berjaya jetty is a treat for snorkelling, without having to pay to go out into the islands. Rengis island can be reached by kayak.
Service is so-so. Not that bad, but nothing to really boast about.
Restaurant Tip : The Chinese Restaurant about 20 mins walk from the resort (not the one just outside) is more reasonably priced and the food is great. Be prepared to wait for a while for your food though.

Deluxe Chalet that we stayed was an exceptionally spacious & equipped with basic necessities. The 32" flat screen is a bonus. The distance to the beach & Seri Nelayan Restaurant is really convenient.
A free shuttle to Tekek Jetty will be nice
This is our 1st experience stay in Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort Tioman. We did not faced any obstacle & in fact the travel is very smooth from Ferry ride to check in. We have the room that we wanted & my daughter loves it. This is her 1st experience stay in chalet & to her amaze it's much better than what she thought it would be. The snorkeling is a must even for the first timer like us. Just to remind that you should take 1 day extra stay if snorkeling or island hoping is in your itinerary. I'm regret I did not do that. Should consider it next time. This is to ensure you have 1 full day to relax on the beach. Do expect delay at Tekek Jetty on the way back. Use air maybe a better choice for those who hates waiting.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Coral island is a must. The water is calm & the fish is "friendly"

nice appartments, very good beach and pool area. Staff is polite and service minded. The dive center is near and easy to get in touch with.
Some staff members did not speak very well English.Only one restaurant out of four was open and it was booring to go to the same restaurant for a whole week.

Nice location and almost complete facilities.
Unfriendly customer service at reception. Lack of listening capabalities with some of the receptionist and simply deny to help.
Rooms were simply good but not worth for money. My special request of non-smoking room and visible to beach was not fullfilled even though my booking was 10 days in advance. I was adviced that special request is based on rooms availability. Overall, it was a "ok" experiece.

Quick and easy access for quick break. Nice staff and location. Nice balcony for relaxation and watching the lovely sunset. Lovely beach facing huts.
Hotel needs renovation and proper maintenance especially the aircon, bed and bathroom. Rather noisy from the beachside bar until 11 pm. Windows of sea facing room do not have views of the sea from inside the room as the bathroom is located in the prime position without a window. Recreation activities at the hotel are over priced.
The corals at the beach are returning after total destruction about 15 years ago. There are some nice patches with lots of beautiful marine life. Saw stingrays and lots of other colourful corals and fish. Do ask the staff where the most beautiful coral areas are located. Be sure to wear a t-shirt to swim in the day to avoid sun burn. Do watch the beautiful sunset. The meals at the hotel are pricey. Although there are lots to eat, the taste and quality need to be improved. Do take a boat ride to go to Tulai Bay to snorkel and dive. The hotel pool is nice and clean with a wonderful slide for children. Avoid booking apartments at the hotel as they are very inaccessible and poorly located from hotel amenities. Choose rooms close to the cafe restaurant as the hotel is rather big and far for children to walk to breakfast and the swimming pool. Stay at least 3 days to enjoy Tioman Island.
Travel tip : Do exploit the complimentary bus service to the airport to have meals around the village near the airport. Bring some Malaysian currency to the island. Be careful not to be over charged by the person collecting the marine reserve fees at the airport. Do go outside the hotel gate and watch from a bridge 1 m long lizards in the stream. If you go trekking near the hotel, do put on insect repellent.

Scuba diving is good there and dive center is great.
Tioman Island is excellent place to have peaceful vacation. We came here for relaxing and scuba diving. Dive center of the hotel is good quality and they have well maintained gear. Dives in Tioman are nice and easy. At least we did not see anything big while diving. (Or actually my spouse saw one big reef shark while snorkeling early morning just 50 meter away from hotel). But dives are nice reefs are in decent condition and with lot of life. I could easily recommend this place for combined relaxation and diving vacation. Hard core divers maybe should look some other destinations.

The setting is just fantastic. The grounds are just beautiful and well maintained.
The whole resort appears to be running on empty. They don't seem to fix anything until it's unusable and general maintanence appears to be minimal. Why were there only 2 members of staff on duty at reception when they were expecting 50 people on the last flight arrival of the day? Why wasn't the paperwork made ready in advance for our arrival when they should have known we were on the flight from Singapore?
The whole resort is huge and although there were vehicles around to take guests around, the drivers seemed to be in short supply. The sand on the beach seems to have been dredged up back onto the beach and contained LOTS of very sharp coral peices making it impossible to walk on apart from below the the high tide mark. There was a tractor with rake but it was not seen on the beach during our week. The staff were very pleasant and helpful

Clear Water, nice location (oposite Ringis Island - beautiful snorkeling spot). Good Breakfast, good price (for European standards), nice ambience, nice staff
Beach is kinda small and not that powdery white. But still beautiful
Stayed there in May for 4 days and was extremly lucky with the weather, well I guess it should have been nice as it is dry season right now. Hotel check in was a bit slow, as I joined the long queue after the ferry arrival. But it didn't take me longer then 10 minutes. Booked two Deluxe rooms which were huge, much better then I epxecdet. Furiniture is a bit date and room looks kinda old, but still very nice and presentable. All deluxe rooms are very near to the Swimming Pool and restaurants and only a lovely 5 minutes walk away from the lobby. Oveall a great experience and I would give the hotel 4 stars. I had fun with all the endless snorkeling and round the island trips.

The location is very nice. Good dive-center. Nice staff.
Restaurants is to expensive.
This is not a hotel for backpackers. This hotel is perfect for couples wanting a bit more luxury than just a hut on the beach. Very nice location and a good staff. Six nights a week there were even live music at the beach-bar. The only real downside is that the restaurants is to expensive for what you get (food and service). Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 11 nights and it was a perfectly relaxing vacation with good diving and sunbathing.
Restaurant Tip : Just outside the gates of the hotel there are Chinese and Malay restaurants with good food and much better prices.

Perfect location
Comfortable large bed
Cold AC
Great breakfast buffet included with room
Bathroom-toiled didn't flush well and shower had no pressure
This was by far the best accomodations on tioman island, and well worth the extra money. Everywhere else we saw had no ac, private restroom, many with no air conditioning.... definatley stay at berjaya to be comfortable! Cold ac, great location, delicious free breakfast buffet, large rooms (chalet) very private and relaxing. Rengis island is right off shore of the resort, you can rent reasonably priced kayaks to go out there and snorkel the best reef on tioman! Turtles, rays, many fish! We loved the berjaya, and it is the only place we felt safe eating-good resturant! Hope they might fix their restrooms though.... Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Kayak out to rengis island (very close off shore from the resort) and snorkel there-awsome!

The Berjaya hotel is definitely the biggest one in the island with most services available and best facilities. There are e.g. a golf course, two nice swimming pools and a PADI diving centre. It goes without saying that everything in the hotel area is a bit over priced based on Tioman standards.

The hotel is well kept up with a gorgeous beach and swimming pool. There is free (albeit very slow!)internet connection in public areas and the public areas are quite nice areas to sit and work. I had a king deluxe room and the room was quite lovely, very spacious, right on the beach and clean. Sunsets sitting on the beach are amazing. There is a hotel shuttle that meets incoming planes and ferries and the incoming staff give a really warm reception. Housekeeping staff and ground service staff are friendly and helpful.
The hotel is very isolated and there are no shuttles into town that are available to guests.
Food is an issue: There is an evening a breakfast buffet that was fine but pricey, the a la carte menu is very pricey, limited, and not that good.
There is very little to do aside from swimming and sitting, and all of the recreational facilities (ie. pool, exercise room) close down at 7:00 pm.
Reception staff were often not helpful and did not have information that I would expect they are frequently asked about: for example, they never had the ferry schedule until the night before -I know a schedule is posted several days in advance (I saw it!); similarly, they did not have bus schedules into major places (ie. K-L or Singapore - since they only have to be concerned with what leaves Mersing, this really isn't that complicated!) They didn't have phone numbers even so that the guest could call and try to organize! This made trying to figure out how to get off the island difficult.
If you are looking for a place to detach from the world, relax and do nothing, this is the resort for you! The beach is quite amazing, lined with lounge chairs under the hut umbrella - do get up and claim yours early though because there are not enough and they are usually taken by 10:00 am! I spent my days sitting on the beach, swimming and reading. I really looked forward to the ending my day, watching the sunset as the waves rolled onto shore It was amazing!
I was happy with my accommodations. I had a king deluxe room and it was more like a small apartment - it had a sitting area, a table with four chairs, small fridge, flat screen TV and a very comfortable bed. It was clean and well-maintained during my stay.
The resort itself is very family friendly, very low key and relaxed. It was quite an amazing place to go to re-energize!
However, it can feel a bit claustrophobic. Tioman Island is fairly isolated to begin with, once you get to Berjaya you really feel totally cut-off! Getting into the small town - where there are a few shops and restaurants - requires a shuttle into town and Berjaya only provides this for the purposes of arrival or departure. I tried to co-ordinate with the reception to go in when the shuttle went in to do pick-up and drop-offs - the reception staff were not helpful and gave me the distinct feeling that my request was a major problem! It's really a shame that the resort doesn't offer a shuttle periodically throughout the day and early evening - this would greatly decrease the sense of feeling a bit stranded.
Part of the reason I felt so stranded was that food was expensive, and certainly not outstanding. The a la carte menu was very pricey and boring. I would have liked to have tried some of the local restaurants which were substantially cheaper and more interesting, but trying to figure out how to get into town was a major deterrent! (I tried walking once but encountered a big snake on the way).
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Do organize to take a water taxi to see other parts of the island. Solang Beach is worth seeing and there are neat (and very cheap) restaurants available).
There is not much available in the shops in town near Berjaya, but what is available is cheaper than elsewhere on the island.
